Zevon, Warren - Hostage-O Lyrics

I can see me bound and gagged
Dragged behind the clownmobile
You can treat me like a dog
If you make me feel what others feel
You can train me, you can drain me
If you make me lose control
I will be your prisoner
I will be your hostage-o
I will be your prisoner
I will be your hostage-o

All you have to do is ask
I'll be happy to say yes
I'll put on the creepy mask
If you'll grant me some forgetfulness
You can strain me, you can maim me
You can chain me to the floor
I will be your prisoner
I will be your hostage-o
I will be your prisoner
I will be your hostage-o

And this loneliness-
Unbearable
And it all goes by so slow
I will stand in line
For the sacrifice
For the shamefaced love
Of the ugly vice
I will pay the price to see how far you'll go
Let me be your prisoner
Let me be your hostage-o

I can see me bound and gagged
Dragged behind the clownmobile
You can treat me like a dog
If you make me feel what others feel
You can sprain me, you can blame me
If you make me lose control
I will be your prisoner
I will be your hostage-o
I will be your prisoner
I will be your hostage-o

KAT Harper here. My system croaked. But I'm back, still singing Warren's praises til my candle goes out. This song is unquestionably WZ's most daring, lyrically. It's in my top 10 favourite Zevon jewels, but listen to it: Warren lays bare his darkest personal truths, behind the light and gentle chords. Only Zevon would be so courageous, so in-your-face. No wonder we devoted Zevonites adore him!

    Brenda Harper thank you!

slashu Most Welcome! I literally LIVE these days because of WARREN'S courageous example. I figured, after seeing how HE dealt with a virtual Death Sentence, that it is what it is, and 3 years on, I STILL enjoy every bite of every sandwich. His music...matchless words woven with exquisitely perfect musical phases...God and Legend, to ME, at least, he lives forever on the Edge of Dreams....

Went to see Warren on this tour w/ some friends. Before he played this song he started talking about the song "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" and how it had been written in a much different tone than the pop version that was later covered by "She Who Shall Not Be Named". He then announced that he had written a "sequel" to that song. Then he said "Let's see 'em make a f***ing pop song outta this." and played "Hostage-O". Good times. Guy had a great attitude. Thx Mr. Zevon RIP.
