Oh, but it's alright, alright with me
'Cause you know, you're gonna want me some day
Yes, you will want me, and I'll run away
Oh, Valarie
(Valarie)
Valarie
(Valarie)
Valarie
Don't you want me?
Valarie
Valarie
Valarie
Valarie
Although you don't want me no more
Oh, but it's alright, it's alright with me
'Cause you know, you're gonna want me some day
Oh, you will want me, and I'll run away
Oh, Valarie

Zappa, Frank Valarie Comments
Jacky and the Starlites released this in 1960. They didn't get the credits for it on the album.
Just saying.
Great song, but really a cover.
👍
This bookends the album. What happens in between is perhaps Zappa's finest, even if it is a Frankenstein. and possibly Zappa's finest. Still, there's stuff there that is just awesome. I do realize that I will be arguing with Hot Rats afficianodos, but I honestly think Little House I Used To Live In was his best work.
I love the original. I never knew of this version. I like it.
Bullshit! This is shit!
Wonderful contrast after "Little House I Used To Live In".
Estrada the Master Pachuco Falsetto.
Dear lord I love this song. Please, please listen to the entire album (which is absolutely NOTHING like this). Little House I Used To Live In is possibly Zappa's magnum opus, even if it is a frakenstein. This is an essential album.
This is one of the few studio albums I don't own. I'll check it out. Music is the Best!
One of my favorite zappa albums. I liked that the first and last song are very different than rest of the album
This could be he greasiest doo-wop ever!
Music sure is different today.

Although this isn't what the song is about or anything about a love song my dog recently passed away and this song is my love for her thank you Frank Zappa and the mothers of invention
Horrible digital reverb-soaked CD version. The 2012 Zappa CDs sound like the original releases on LP, or at least a lot closer to and minus all your scratches
Aqui Zappa se influencio en la musica Doo-Woop que escuchaba en su adolescencia
כמה יפה!
זפה, הוא מצוין גם בעברית!
This is not written by FZ it is a cover of a song by Jackie and the starlites 1960.
Well, Frank did love doo wop. Now I'm gonna have to look up the original. An exercise for you -- find the originals that Janis covered. Some, perhaps many, were beyond obscure regional records.
roy estrada on the high wheezy vocals makes it great ...
I wonder how his singing is now in prison. Great vocals though!
Hate him as a person but I cant deny his skillful bass and voice
Shelf Life Even higher in the shower.
Somehow, in spite of the Mothers' vaunted commitment to ugliness, sloppiness, and cheesiness, I actually find this rather beautiful - in a queasy way - especially the wah-wah guitar at the beginning, and the languorous slowness of it all. It makes me think of warm rain falling soft on L.A - if it ever does rain there - and of looking out at neon signs through rainslicked windows. I don't really know why.
Just saw a vid where Zappa bragged about all the hard work and 'discipline' he imposed on his band members. Apparently it took effort to sound this crappy.
It's the very fact the wah pedal's in there.
Russ G Go listen to peaches an regalia and stfu
A really cool version
My god, are they being SERIOUS here? I doubt it, of course, but then again, I don't hear a punchline in these lyrics; this isn't a PARODY of Jackie and the Starliters' "Valerie" the way the Mothers' "Duke of Prunes" is a parody of Gene Chandlers' "Duke of Earl." They actually sound - GASP! IMPOSSIBLE! HOW CAN THIS BE? - kinda sweet here; you could quite probably slow-dance with your special someone to this song without causing them to take offense OR burst out in giggles. I didn't think the Mothers had it in 'em, but at the same time, I knew they always loved doo-wop. Good to know they could play it semi-straight when they wanted to.
Duke of Prunes is in fact a song from Zappa's score for the film Run, Don't Walk, revisited with lyrics for the MOI. Musically it has nothing to do with Duke of Earl. Also, Zappa loved doo-wop and sincerity is a keyword here.
"scarcely", to you maybe.
Actually they had an entire album of them. Go "Cruisin with Ruben and the Jets"
You need to watch this video: Why Frank Zappa Loved Doo Wop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEsTfcfX82A
Frank did it all. On this occasion, he decided to play it straight. You hear him live sometimes direct the band to play a certain song straight, just because, well he could. One thing Frank never was, was predictable.
I actually heard the Zappa version first as a child. Only discovered the original a few months ago. Love them both. Classic 1 6 4 5 doo wop. 😉
Valerie = "Im sorry" ??
Magi, It's VALARIE on the original recording label..so it's VALARIE
I'd love to learn the harmonies to this
You mean the chords? G, Em, C, D, you can ornament them more tho.
Me too. I'd give a very great deal to be able to sing doo-wop really well.
@DameEdithDivine I hope that's true. It's certainly a good story.
The song wasn't written by Zappa, a doo wop group from the 50's wrote it
zappa is like a box of chocolates................................
+fiftymerc sled much better
Yeah...Synthetic and not very good for you . [Just kidding - I love Frank; he's a true musical genius. R.I.P, you Electric Don Quixote, you].
Not bad,but it don't rip your heart out like Jackie and the Starlites does....
Your right.
2:59 was pretty good.
I was there because I was living at the San Diego Childrens Home up the hill from Snyder, behind San Diego High School. He and I went out for a lunch date one time only. He had "borrowed" a car for the occasion and we drove to balboa park, not far from our school. I don't remember what we ate, or who brought the food. I do remember he was a gentleman who tried to seduce me with logic rather than romance (it didn't work)... and yes, there was a time when I regretted it.---Love and Peace, Val
You went out with Frank Zappa Valerie? Wow...from another Valerie
