Youngbloods, The - Sugar Babe Lyrics

Shoot your dice and have your fun, sugar babe
Shoot your dice and have your fun
Run like your mama, when the police come
Yeah sugar babe, oh my, sugar babe

I got drunk and I fell on the floor, sugar babe
I got drunk and I fell on the floor
That's good for whiskey and I want some more
Yeah sugar babe, oh my, sugar babe
(Sing it slide)

Shoot your dice and roll 'em in the sand, sugar babe
Shoot your dice and roll 'em in the sand
Well it ain't gonna work mama, I know damn that
Yeah sugar babe, oh my, sugar babe

Put your hand on your hip and let your mind roll by, sugar babe
Put your hand on your hip and let your mind roll by
'Cause your body's gonna shrivel, when you come to die
Yeah sugar babe, oh my, sugar babe

Youngbloods, The Sugar Babe Comments
  1. m.... ....

Great one! Our "teen rock band" played this one for our summer gigs at Brown's Hotel in the Catskills from 73-76. We were all about country rock in those days, and this was such a fun one. We slowed it down just a bit for danceability, and it was very popular with the guests.
Since that time I've come to realize that it's an amalgamation of a bunch of traditional folk songs. The Youngbloods were so good!

  2. r.... ....

Been trying to nail down this song for years.

  3. k.... ....

    At Youngblood volume.

  4. G.... S....

What really frosts me is that generally they're known solely for Get Together, and they did so many other great things, both before and after Jerry's departure.

  5. D.... M....

This is what it was like

  6. J.... S....

I love the electric guitar playing. Anybody know what the style is called and who actually plays it in this recording?

    J.... S....

Banana played steel; Jerry, on guitar?

    J.... S....

    Pedal steel guitar.

  7. S.... o....

This song never fails to put a smile on my face .

  8. M.... R....

John Cowan has just released a new album "Sixty".  He does a really nice version of this song, lots of leads with famous pickers, and true to the Youngbloods version.

  9. t.... ....

Helen Ross is correct -- Zabriski Point sucked as a film (except for the slo-mo explosion) but the soundtrack is tremendous. Excellent job, Koll12!

Anyone out there ever record and preserve a live version of this? When they went down to a trio, they would go into this song from whatever started the playlist. The primary instrument was Banana on the piano. Really got the place going.

  11. B.... M....

I'm pretty sure that's band member Lowell "Banana" Levinger. Awesome playing, and beautifully mixed--I love the way it jumps out of the speakers without crowding out the rest of the arrangement.

  12. R.... F....

is that jerry garcia on pedal steel!

    R.... F....

    No banana.

  13. P.... F....

Yes! Finally!!! I've been waiting for this for years!!! Thank you xxoo :)

  14. H.... R....

Wan word, BRILLIANT, Zabriski Point, crap film, great soundtrack

  15. T.... ....

This tune has so much... This should have been famous...
