Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar Lyrics
Cocoa sugar, don't be sad to say your bye-byes
Don't you worry, I'll be here until the sunrise
And when I wake I'll cast you out onto the low tide
Cocoa sugar, baby drift away it's alright
You have arrived
It's alright
You have arrived
On my day
On my last day
I won't remember
Remember your illuminating grace
(Cocoa sugar, don't cry, don't cry)
I'm gonna deliver you
(Cocoa sugar, don't cry, don't cry)
But first I got to some business to care of
I got to some business to attend to
I wondered to myself, did I shelter you,
Did I shelter you in love?
I'm still wondering to myself,
Why am I the fortunate man?
My ribs are broken, my back is broken
Your eyes [?] driftin' away
(Drift away)
Don't kill my [?]
(Killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me)
Don't kill my [?] again
(Killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me)
(Cocoa sugar, don't cry, don't cry) Oh!
On my day
On my days
(Cocoa sugar, don't cry, don't cry)
On my last days
(Killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me, killing me) [reoeat to end]
They say it's better to travel than to arrive
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

Young Fathers Cocoa Sugar Comments
The Album is literally one of my favourite albums of all time.
This 150% shoulda been on the LP.
Brilliant.
unique!
The guy in the pic wants to do naughty stuff to me lol
REALLY Nice song!
so fresh, it makes me terrified with overjoy
I kinda wish this song was on the actual album tbh but it’s a great song
Idk why I find that album cover crept as hell lol
First song I've heard from these people. New fan, new sub :)
I feel like this was more than good enough to be on the album. Sounds really nice.
amazing, reminds me of their earlier albums
Pinhead Larry is that you?
"Cocoa Sugar" debuted at #30 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
beautiful
ughh this should have been in the album such a fantastic cut!
RIGHT?! How was this left out? It’s single worthy...
I think it would’ve been a better Closing Track than Picking You imo
Love it! Can't wait for the Glasgow gig, have tickets will go wild ...
That album cover variation is so dope
Yeah, I love this image. The actual album version is somehow bit goofy- it's interesting but this one is much better, even just composition-wise.
I feel you on that lol
Just imagine seeing this staring at you at night
Tbh would have loved this as a closer over Picking You
Rhys Langston
I know right it would’ve complemented the entire album nicely and tie up the experience nicely
I love this

These guys might be the most criminally underrated band ever... Cocoa Sugar is easily the best album of the year to me, and they have leftovers that sound this incredible? Wow.
Great band - I wouldn't say they are underrated though - they just aren't a household name - They did a song with Massive Attack and one of their songs is in a car commercial. They'll be fine!
oh it's you.
This is the best song...
love it!

Interesting, this is a completely new release!! I like it, very relaxing :)
Why was the title of the Album Cocoa Sugar? It's an intriguing title!!
probably because one is white and two are black? They also have an album called White Men are Black too or something...
@Timi Boose might have been a part of it but from the band it's the sweet and bitter dynamic that they went for on the sound of the album.
@Oscar Moffitt Thank you!!
@Timi Boose yeah true ;)
@seej fish yeah that sounds about right!
You know what I love about this song and this band in general? I love the way you hear so many musical influences in it: Nick Cave, Prince, the Chemical Brothers, Afrobeat, soul, R&B.
A great thing to wake up to :)
Nice wake up call
just woke up ^^ , great to discover something new dropping :) thx~
