Yes - Parallels Lyrics
When you've tried most everything and nothing's taking you higher
When you've come to realise, you've been playing with fire
Hear me when I say to you, it's really down to your heart
It's the beginning of a new love in sight
Set it spinning turning roundabout
Create a new dimension
When we are winning we can stop and shout
Making love towards perfection
I've been all around the world and seen so many faces
Young and old a story told, filling in my spaces
Now without a trace of doubt, I feel it every hour
It's the beginning of a new love inside
No hesitation when we're all about
To build a shining tower
No explanations, need to work it out
You know we've got the power
Parallel our sights
And we will find, that we, we need, to be, where we, belong
Parallel our heights
Display our rights and wrongs, and always, keep it STRONG
It's the beginning of a new love in sight
Could be an ever opening flower
No explanations, need to work it out
You know we've got the power
It's the beginning of a new love inside
You've got the way to make it all happen
Set it spinning turning roundabout
Create a new dimension
When we are winning we can stop and shout
Making love towards perfection

Everyone knows 1977 rules
I remember seeing this tour live at Long Beach arena. Living in the South Bay of LA I also remember wondering how a British band picked a building I knew in LA for the cover. With a naked dude's bum & him checking it out. Personally, my favourite YES album.
They sure did pull out all the stops on this track!
(wink)
(nudge)
David Richards was a great producer.
I really love this track but not the drums. The backbeat is kind of insensitive, the snare drum sounds awful and misplaced in the mix.
Balls. It's a straight-ahead rocker; Alan White's part is perfect. Look at the rehearsal footage to see how much they're all into it.
I don't disagree with stettan1 - the kick-drum channel seems to be held back. (They did try a new engineer, John Timperley, who replaced Eddy Offord.) When Squire himself remixed the subsequent Yesshows LP, all that 'attenuated' rhythm section came back with a bang!
Chris Squire wrote that one. But, each guy put everything into this. Think about this for a moment. How does a group of musicians, particularly YES, create such music like this?
Chris Squire presented his rough-and-ready version as a piano piece to the band. They in turn built the whole thing up from that alone.
Opening Song when i saw Yes at the Long Beach Arena in 77.
I was 15 when this album came out.....its was heavenly to me.....!!!!
Annoying Howe behind the singing ever soloing 🧐
The continuous guitar lead is kind of the whole point of the song...
@TheMcmikerg Agree on that😄
The voice of God
Listening to this though a decent set of headphones is ok...but the grandeur of listening to this on a proper stereo is missing
The voice of God. Yes.
It just does not get any better...wow...
It baffles me that this LP only went gold but Tormato went platinum this is a much better record on all levels
One of the greatest songs ever played. There is only Yes and that's how it is.
The Wakeman days...……...YES
Nothing like this will ever be repeated...a unique and historic rock recording. 1976..way before modern technology...Rick Wakeman, playing at the local Swiss church in real time over a phone line, while being piped into the studio with the other guys on their instruments..... Incredible. A Chris Squire masterpiece.
YES and YES!!!!!!
You're saying they recorded this live in the studio? I kind of doubt that. The _GftO_ Wikipedia page does suggest that, but I am still doubtful. If a band like Yes ever recorded live in the studio, I would think that would be widely noted technical achievement. And this is 1977 we're talking, pre everything that might enable them to have it come out sounding this good!
what a great song! guitar and bass are excellent
Chris Squire really was an amazing bass player : ) brilliant : )
He was up there with Entwistle at the top IMHO. RIP Chris and The Ox...you guys were the greatest.
he was one of the best.
Outstanding tune, by the finest musicians of their time 'you know we have the power' !
I should say such a positive impact on so many of us!!
I am happy that this music has had such positive effects on so many of us!! Best wishes to you!!
I agree Kate...it was a big part of my youth...this song, and this album.
I was twelve or thirteen, this entire record changed my life in. so many. Positive ways!!!!!!!.........!!
Yes I was 13 the first time I heard this and I haven't been able to stop since it's just an amazing piece!
Me too Kate. But I was 17 when I first heard it. It was the soundtrack to my sport season 1977... Cross Country, and we were champions that year.
I was ten or so here. Loved this, I still do.
I wish all those people the best!!.........
This whole record changed so many lives!!.........
Kate Murphy it certainly changed mine!
All music changes lives
This tune still brings on the goosebumps. Still remember this was the opening number for the going for the one tour, and I was in the 4 th row center right in front of Jon, Chris and Steve. And Rick's keyboards - felt if right through me!
My first concert. ......Forum LA. Stoned and in the back. Column AA
I saw same tour at the old Capital Center the day Elvis died. You remember what Squire was playing? Triple neck bass, baby.
amazing. one word. lol.
Chris Squire x Rick Wakeman in this music = EPIC
no Squire=no Yes.
exactly
As amazing as Chris and Rick are on this song, Steve Howe is at his absolute best here
great song!
Thanks WMG! Much appreciate.
