Yes - Dear Father Lyrics

You need them to open the seed
To see what goes on in the world
Here in my mind
Catch the wind and hold on tight
To what we'll find
And hear what goes on in the world
Here is all you see
Everything is made for you from me

If there's anything you'd like to say that could help me in any way
Cause I've been waiting for so long for you to come along
Help me on that day
When you take over all the things heaven has made for you
Is there anything you think you should know
Is there anything before I go?

Dear Father [repeat]
I'm hungry, I'm cold
Feeling terribly old
I don't think I can see
I'm not feeling good like I think I should

They're on their own, needing a face, a place,
Hope and mind, a home
To see what goes on in the world
They're who you need
To show them why they're wrong, oh why indeed
We need to go on in the world
Here is all you see
Everything is made for you from me.

If there's any complication that you'd like to talk over with me about
'Cause I've been waiting for so long for you to come along
We can work it all out

[repeat pre-chorus]

Dear Father [repeat]
You must be putting me on
'Cause most of their minds are gone
They run on T'understand me
I'm not feeling good like I think I should

Dear Father [repeat]
Can I give it a miss
'Cause I'm not ready for this
I don't think I can see
I'm not feeling good like I think I should

Dear Father [repeat]
Won't you leave me alone
Won't you let me go home
I don't think I could see
Lord, they'd crucify me
I just couldn't do that
'Cause that's not where it's at now.

Yes Dear Father Comments

Anyone have any info on that bass? I've never seen that four knob job before

  2. C.... F....

Bill Bruford was immediately a force on that music scene. He has my respect for having the balls to have left Yes. He saw Pete Banks & Tony Kaye get canned. Bill looked toward Robert Fripp & said, "I'm outta here..." before he could be the next one fired. Bravo, Bill. It took me a long time to come to grips with Bill leaving Yes. All these years later, I applaud his decision. Finally...

  3. C.... F....

Great stuff !! My favorite part is @3:58...

  4. C.... S....

I wonder if this band isn't the best Yes combo ! Peter Banks is a more rock and better second vocals then Steve Howe. This rocks ! And all great musicians. And I miss Chris !!

  5. C.... F....

Where was this video footage when I was a teen ? 'Cause I'd have given my left nut to see this stuff back then.... I had some stuff from Yes, ELP, King Crimson & others on VHS tapes back then. But it amazes me when stuff like this keeps popping up through the years. Much respect, dear Bruno !!! 😎

  6. B.... I....

3 dislikes?? has to be TRUMPFUCKERS!!!

  7. m.... ....

No matter the quality, still bless you for the upload. That Energy. That subtle competition

  8. m.... k....

Here`s the reason why Jon ousted Kaye and Banks -- nobody wached him but them.

  9. C.... b....

Is this brllliant hardcore rare stuff of legends or what!! Love all the B-sides from the Yes anthology totally miss Chris Squire with a passion!!

  10. D.... H....

    Brilliant thanks for posting

  11. B.... L....

Rare look at Chris's stereo wired Telecaster bass in concert. Saw this was put up for auction a few years ago.

  12. d.... ....

peter banks laid the original, steve howe took it one step further.

  13. d.... ....

great vid, tony kaye was awesome, and him and peter banks dueling instruments were amazing at the end of the song.

  14. B.... ....

At their best. I love later versions of Yes, but the older I get, the more I go back to this era and this line-up.

    B.... ....

That's exactly what I feel to. A friend said that almost every band's best album are the two first. As much I love Relayer and tales, now I find myself listening more and more to that period with Peter Banks on guitar.

  15. M.... C....

VDGG lit my Jon's mysticism ;)

  16. M.... C....

    Magical!

  17. P.... I....

    SUPER!!!

  18. B.... L....

Chris and his stereo Tele bass! Great find.

  19. N.... U....

    Oh. My. God.

  20. B.... T....

I remember seeing Chris bowing a double bass for this. I wish I could find that footage!

  21. t.... ....

    Thanks so much--this is amazing!!

  22. j.... ....

Always liked the tune I bought YESTERDAYS for it. thanks Bruno .

    j.... ....

jsilence418 Do you own the newer CD of the first Yes album or Time & A Word ? One, or both (not sure) have studio outtakes of Dear Father being worked up. With totally different arrangements. Not as crisp as the final version we all know, but great listening nonetheless!!

    j.... ....

Ha, no ,showing my age all my stuff is vinyl ( which I mostly prefer) but thanks for the heads up. I will look for those discs .

  23. h.... ....

    those were the days

  24. A.... M....

    Gold!!!!

  25. P.... M....

Unusually Clear footage.  Audio was also okay.  Great seeing the band in early years.  Thank you for sharing.  Met almost all original guys over the years. Still trying to meet Tony.  The wife met Peter and snagged the signature about a year before his passing.  Sad to have 2 members no longer with us.

  26. D.... H....

why no camera focus on Jon?

  27. f.... ....

Love that early raw sound, it was something special

  28. D.... W....

Important amazing footage and in the 50th anniversary year. They were very solid and strong in there live performances eh. Tony and Peter very animated and hence get the camera time. Squire on his Fender bass, Bill still loving it and Jon in control. These films are so rare we just have to love them even with their erratic editing.

Still, it feels like I'm at an early Yes gig which makes me happy. 😆😆

    #YES50

  29. F.... M....

    Absolutely beautiful!

  30. S.... S....

Where in the world did you find this? Incredible! I only hope there might be more stuff lurking out there. Would love to see footage of Howe's early days with the band. Yes, i have seen the Sounding Out footage but would love to uncover other greatness. Thanks so much for posting this.

    S.... S....

Great footage of The Nice keeps popping up, too !!

  31. e.... ....

    No Rickenbacker?

    e.... ....

eirejoeh it's his Tele bass! Maybe his Rick was getting work done on it. The Tele still sounds good here.

  32. T.... F....

THE LEGENDARY PETER BANKS! good times of this band ------

  33. G.... W....

Me and my pal Hank listened to time and a word driving to ECU from Raleigh,N.C.in my '68 dodge charger this was 1974 rip my dear friend

  34. P.... ....

man, it's almost punk energy and yet some complexity to it! great stuff!

  35. T.... Y....

    👍👍👍 !!!

    T.... Y....

Chris Squire wow No Rickenbacker but still amazing!

  36. T.... C....

you can hear the YES sounds so much, and have each have kept this unique souund

  37. M.... S....

Some of the edits are just drop idiotic. But this footage is amazing and a God send. Any footage I never seen of Yes from 69 to 79 pro shot Is a God send. Cause there's just never enough. Now a days they could cheaply capture all their shows but there not Yes anymore and what they are sucks. Not that happy with ARW either is mostly tunes from the Rabin days.

  38. Y.... ....

Bruno, you deserve a medal for digging up these ancient treasures! Even if they weren't spending much time in the charts Yes had to be getting a lot of attention in those early days, just due to their ambition and the musicality of their performances. And yeah, Bill looks bored as usual lol.

  39. L.... G....

Great great great !! absolute rarity, never seen that before... thanks for posting. We are seing Chris Squire what it seems tobe a Fender Telecaster bass

    L.... G....

Il you look at the headstock it's not a jass bass... and the telecaster did really exist..

    L.... G....

The "Tele" bass existed much later. This is an early Precision bass. Looks like it's been modified, too.

    L.... G....

Here's the bass. It's a modified Fender Precision Bass. They had a "tele" look to them until around 1957. That makes Squire's a very early example: https://images.talkbass.com/attachments/5548694_2_l-jpg.1843919/

    L.... G....

If that is the same Bass it went to auction in 2008 and went for a paltry 3,700 pounds believe it or not .

    L.... G....

It's a modified Telecaster bass. The first version was made in 1968 -72 and was basically Fender's first reissue bass, a reissue of the '51 slab bodied Precision bass with one single coil pickup. The only difference was a white pickguard ('51 had black). The 2nd gen Tele had a big humbucker near the neck. Squire's bass had a Jazz Bass pickup added near the bridge and he used it on for example "Lucky Seven", "Southside Of The Sky", "Sweet Dreams" and "A Venture".

  40. A.... M....

    Ранний YES - чудесно.

  41. D.... S....

SO COOL. Where did you find this? Never seen it before.

  42. d.... g....

What a treasure, my God. Thanks a lot for uploading this gem, Bruno!

  43. P.... M....

What does the cameraman got against Jon Anderson ;) RIP Chris Squire

  44. t.... ....

Amazing bit, I'm sharing this widely now!

  45. g.... ....

    WOW....Tony Kay`s Hammond-organ sounds amazing !!

    g.... ....

and Bruford's most amazing solo ever! (00:44)

    g.... ....

And he's so dramatic for a keyboardist

    g.... ....

I’ve always though Tony Kaye was very underrated. His playing style and showmanship

    g.... ....

Rick Wakeman was technically much better but I think that Kaye had better sound.

  46. L.... F....

Look at all the raw energy Yes had in their early days- well before they came to the US.
Peter Banks was an incredible guitarist. Too bad he didn't continue after time and a word.
But each change of band mates. And with changes to their style and sound- for better or worse.

One of my top bands ever!

  47. N.... Y....

    Thanks for sharing this!

  48. p.... e....

    Amazing footage
    Merry Christmas indeed
