Yardbirds, The - Over, Under, Sideways, Down Lyrics

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Cars and girls are easy come by in this day and age,
Laughing, joking, drinking, smoking,
Till I've spent my wage.
When I was young people spoke of immorality,
All the things they said were wrong,
Are what I want to be.

(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
When will it end, when will it end,
When will it end, when will it end.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
I find comment 'bout my looks irrelativity,
Think I'll go and have some fun,
'Cos it's all for free.
I'm not searching for a reason to enjoy myself,
Seems it's better done,
Than argued with somebody else.

(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
When will it end, when will it end,
When will it end, when will it end.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Over under sideways down...

Yardbirds, The Over, Under, Sideways, Down Comments
  1. r.... p....

I am so thankful i had the yardbirds rocking me out when i was growing up!

  2. m.... m....

Incredibile come questo brano sia della metà dei 60 io lo definirei un rock blues che già mostra forme psichedeliche qualche anno prima dell'arrivo del movimento Brano originale e brillante avanti per l'epoca in cui lo realizzarono

  3. a.... r....

    🤘🤘🤘

  4. M.... ....

    Any Observe and Report fans?

  5. D.... C....

Still loving the Best music in 2020🎸🎼🎶🎵🎹

  6. p.... ....

My old friend Mike Vernon used to sub for Keith Relf with The Yardbirds whenever Keith's asthma was too bad - Mike later produced the seminal "Beano" album with John Mayall and Eric Clapton and then in the '70's he had several hits himself singing with The Olympic Runners. Best, Pete.

  7. T.... D....

Very good and fast moving song.

  8. J.... O....

This was far ahead of anything that Pete Townshend was doing in 1966!

  9. J.... O....

1966 was pivotal when pop divided in to rock. Jon Savage's book 1966 is a must read. By the end of that year it was soul, Motown and easy listening that dominated the charts

  10. K.... P....

    What I like about you
    You hold me tight
Tell me I'm the only one
    Wanna come over tonight

  11. K.... C....

I love this song.  Upbeat and phychedelic

  13. G.... E....

Way ahead of the game - innovative and massively influential.

  14. f.... ....

which is the guitarist playing that riff--if that is indeed a guitar? I will guess Jeff Beck. Next most likely would be Jimmy Page. Took me some time to figure out what this song in my memory was, but I knew it likely to be Yardbirds.

    f.... ....

    fingling8 it’s beck

  15. M.... ....

Hey look, Jeff Beck used to have sleeves.

  16. H.... L....

    Released in 1966.

  17. t.... e....

    That's IT!

  18. c.... ....

These guys were great no matter who was licking their fenders

  19. J.... C....

So far ahead of any band that would use the instruments these guys used! With the three famous guitarist that played in this band....I’m looking at Jimmy and Jeff in this picture and having seen them both multiple times, it goes without saying that they were just bad ass! Keep rocking boys!!?

  20. M.... C....

First time seein them in a dance🏬hall you could hear all the way down the street sound like a run away Train🚅🚄 off the tracks🇬🇧🎤🇬🇧🎤🇬🇧🎤🇬🇧🐾🎤🔌🎸🎸🔌✌

  21. P.... J....

Listen to the words if you can! Says it all even mentions Einstein. Youth anthem of the 60s. Pure rebellion and alienation in search of personal space and fun through music, sex and substances. Yeah came from a movie

  22. D.... ....

    Keith Relf - Brian Jones

  23. M.... R....

    BAD ASS

  24. M.... R....

SUCH A CAD ASS SONG !!! I LOVE IT !

  25. c.... h....

That guitar lead sounds Moroccan or something......

  26. R.... A....

One would be hard pressed to argue with that. A bit later the string lineup with original Fleetwood Mac was awesome.

    R.... A....

My bad….this should have been posted below Joseph Cottone reply!

  27. D.... F....

I've seen Jeff Beck a few times, but not with the Yardbirds, I did get to see Jimmy Page with the Yardbirds..

  28. S.... ....

Yardbirds need to quit eating guitar players

  29. S.... W....

I loved them then. I still love them.

  30. J.... R....

Saw Yardbirds and many other bands' live performances before they became icons.Spring thru fall of 1965, teen nightclubs(Band Canyon in Bay City and Daniel's Den in Saginaw)booked many of these fledgling bands that were gaining popularity at that time.If I'd only had an 8mm and a crystal ball.Nonetheless an unforgettable experience I shared with hundreds of other teens who would now be in their 70's.The music and memories live on.

  31. T.... S....

    Spark it up man!

  32. o.... ....

I wish it on every song it would say who the guitarist was. I swear its jimmy but on these pictures it just shows eric except one

  33. B.... D....

  43. B.... M....

Every time I hear this song I think of denis from observe and report chasing after the skateboarders after fucking up the other lol

  44. P.... S....

The band didn't have a long history but the albums that came out, and the songs, and the three guitarists that went on to become super stars are now legends in their own right. RIP Keith Relf and thanks for forming the Yardbirds.

  45. D.... ....

"Sometimes... I drink out of volcano. I know how, to deal with the system... I know how to fucks with it." LOL such a great line.

    D.... ....

    J.... R....

Jimmy Rodas Molestina no this song was recorded in May 1966, Page didn’t join the band until June 1966.

    J.... R....

@Jimmy Rodas Molestina beck and page played together on only 3 songs:happenings ten years time ago, psycho daisies and stroll on from the movie blow up.

  47. A.... o....

That guitar almost sounds like a synth super trippy and futuristic

  48. s.... t....

Jeff Beck is the best friend a rock song ever had

  49. I.... R....

    Observe and Report 🤘

  50. R.... T....

Brilliant. Should have got further than #10. Top 20 in the USA. June 1966, ahead of its time by The Yardbirds.

One of my favorite tunes by the yardbirds !!!

  65. .... ....

    британский ритм-энд-блюз = British Rhytm-&-Blues Music = British Rhytm-and-Blues Music = British R&B Music

  66. P.... D....

Featuring Clapton, Beck, and Page. Had they stayed together they would of superceeded The Beatles. Way more complex musically.

  67. b.... m....

"Over under, sideways down..backwards, forwards, square is round....hey!"

  68. D.... M....

I heard this for the first time in 66. Look where they all went from there, timeless superstars.

  69. T.... ....

I’m not gonna lie to you Ronnie.

The Yardbirds were a very influential band,Clapton, Beck, & Page.

  71. C.... G....

I walk in a time machine. It's 1966. I walk around, I see Jimmy Page.

    Lol

    C.... G....

Yes. But then you are not looking at Yardbirds, but in a record studio where he worked as a session musician.

  72. K.... ....

It's such a strange brilliant song...I love it.

  73. M.... S....

    raga rock

  74. K.... S....

Is Clapton with the group during this song? Anyone know?

    K.... S....

  75. J.... C....

The YARDBIRDS gave us 3 of the greatest guitarist to come out of the BRITISH INVASION.

    J.... C....

I've been a fan of The Yardbirds since 1965 when I first heard Heart Full Of Soul on local radio.

  79. L.... M....

    My favorite.band..

  80. R.... R....

I've always felt a song should take you somewhere in your mind wherever that may be. It's what makes the best songs. This song definitely takes you somewhere. What a great tune from the past.

  82. S.... B....

    the "kind" from the day.....

  83. J.... G....

I LOVE this era of blues-rock. It feels like psychedelic in BLACK AND WHITE!

  84. d.... p....

Some of Page's pictures from this band have obviously been brushed up later, but I'm not complaining.

  85. K.... R....

    Heroin brought me here ☻

  86. T.... D....

I met Jim McCarty about 30 years ago. He was at a record sale and promoting his new Group. I said, "So you got to play with Jimmy Page." He just nodded kinda bored like.

  87. j.... o....

these guys are pure magic ....long live the 60s era what a fine taste of music we had it was sublime joy lol

  88. p.... ....

    Top of the Hasidic pops.

  89. s.... h....

    best british band ever

  90. A.... W....

One of my very favorite "British Invasion" groups. Were blues-rock geniuses, and definitely ahead of their time. I'm almost 70, and still can't get enough of this song!

  91. o.... ....

I have an old Yardbirds Greatest Hits album and I could never figure out why this song's not on it. This was a pretty U.S. big hit in its day. More so than their blues. Maybe they couldn't get the rights?

  92. D.... D....

Observe and report brought me here

  93. R.... K....

Most exciting band for a couple of years when they had Beck and Page.

  94. M.... M....

    Observe and Report. 🔥

  95. M.... ....

Too short! Always wished this song was longer.

  96. P.... D....

    Which one is Jimmy Page?

    P.... D....

No 2 from the left. But he is actually not on this record at all.

  97. J.... F....

    Excellent!
