Yardbirds, The - Good Morning Little Schoolgirl Lyrics

Good morning, little schoolgirl.
Good morning, little schoolgirl.
Can I go home with you?
Won't you let me go home with you,
So I can hug, hug, squeeze, squeeze?
If you let me I can tease you baby.
Hey, hey hey hey. Hey hey hey hey. Hey, yeah.

Let's dance, little schoolgirl.
Let's dance, little schoolgirl.
Won't you let me take you to the hop, hop,
Have a party at the soda shop,
So we can do the twist, do the stroll
To the music of the rock 'n' roll.
Hey, hey hey hey. Hey hey hey hey. Hey, yeah.

Hey, yeah.

Good morning, little schoolgirl.
Good morning, little schoolgirl.
Can I go home with you?
Won't you let me go home with you?
Tell your mama and your papa that I love you.
Tell your sisters and your brother that I love you.
Hey, hey hey hey. Hey, hey hey hey.
Hey, hey hey hey. Hey, hey hey hey.

Yardbirds, The Good Morning Little Schoolgirl Comments

Was this included on the 'debut' US LP--the purple one? That record became not only incredibly tough to find, but every copy was chewed up! I cannot believe Eric's solo! ..

A teeny bopper classic - but Clapton's guitar solo is sublime.

  11. E.... ....

Yet another one of my depression-killing songs. Can listen to this all day

TYA has nearly ruined my enjoyment of any other version. bless you Alvin Lee!

  14. p.... ....

this is a rock version of a very old early blues song

  15. g.... ....

There is a lot of talk about this, so let me clarify a few things.

    1. There are two songs called "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl". John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson recorded his song in 1937. The other song, first recorded by Don (Level) and Bob (Love) on Argo in 1961 shares a couple of lines with the SBW song, but it's a different song.

    2. The Don and Bob song exists in two different versions: one has echo on the vocals, the other doesn't.

    3. The Yardbirds seemed to have heard the "echo version", hence, "hug-hug", "squeeze-squeeze".

    4. The versions of "Five Live Yardbirds" I've heard over the years had the studio version of GMLS. The Repertoire and Fuel 2000 reissues, so I've read, reassemble the concert at the Crawdaddy Club, which includes the live version; this, is the studio version.

For another great version of the Don and Bob song, Rod Stewart's is nice. He's backed by Jimmy Powell and the Five Dimensions.

    g.... ....

    Hmm.

    A couple of corrections:

The Sonny Boy Williamson song is called, "Good Morning School Girl" on the label.

The Rod Stewart version is NOT backed by Powell and the Five Dimensions. He left the band in 1963 and his version came out in 1964.

  16. w.... d....

early Clapton still rocks after all these years.........................

  17. p.... p....

the lyrics sound like a chant of a pedophile

@pinchold pinch Speak for yourself, keemosabbi

    p.... p....

+pinchold pinch Paedophiles weren't invented back then and I've never heard of a chanting one. Seriously, the song is about an adolescent crush between boy and girl, nothing more sinister than that. I like the Yardbirds version.

    p.... p....

+Geoffrey Wallace  ......and people forget that Kiss sang Christine Sixteen. Guys in their late 30's and 40's trying to score with a sixteen year old girl ! Yeh, that normal, isn't it ?   Both this song and Christine Sixteen are both hot tunes .

  19. E.... ....

This has nothing to do with the Sonny Boy Williamson I song of the same name. I have the original of this but the name of the group that did it escapes me. I'll post when I find it.

    E.... ....

+ElComadreja777 Sonny Boy 1, Muddy, ten Years after etc etc covered it but all it says anywhere is it's a 'blues standard'

  20. S.... ....

Where did all the great bands go - they sure don't have bands like they used to! The Yardbirds rocked!

    S.... ....

@Susie196921 As Michael Lang (Woodstock) said, "The people have changed."

    S.... ....

ElComadreja777 corporate rock helps kill it.

    S.... ....

    liberal calinornia sahit head democrats..........

    S.... ....

Too many commercial (corporate) managers got into things. Take the Beatles; they had a fabulous stripped down sound. Then it was decided to add walls of sound, brasses, swelling symphonies in the background and the music went south. I hated the Beatles after they got all fancy and I then started listening to the Yardbirds and the Stones; rough, raw, stripped down, and thoroughly appealing to the primal in us  :D. You get these office businessmen who think their hot stuff and know everything and they want to make all music "commercially successful". For my money, they are CLUELESS and don't know when to leave a good thing alone. Even the Stones got very commercial after a while.... blahhhhhh!!! That's why it's good to have the old recording and listen to the REAL stuff!!!  :D :D :D

    S.... ....

very under rated from the 60s.......very

  21. K.... J....

I used to listen to this every morning while getting ready for school :).

  22. B.... B....

Eric Clapton at his absolute rockin' best! On one of his earliest recordings with THE YARDBIRDS,in 1964! He is indeed a true guitar legend!

I pulled out my Gibson Es-335 after hearing this... last night and played it; quite simple.. even Eric's hot lead..(for that era) yeah i love it.ii

  24. M.... ....

Eric played a Fender Jazzmaster at 1st with the Yardbirds; me .. i dig him playing a Gibson ES-335 (ONE of my favorites to play)

  25. M.... ....

Steph; thanks for the info; i always though Eric's 1st recorded vocal was with Mayall's Bluesbreakers-Ramblin' on my Mind; the Yardbirds were so hip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. M.... ....

Dig Eric's lead here; short, precise, and tasty! 19 yrs old... much more to come from Eric; i adore this band; listen to five live Yardbirds!!

  27. S.... ....

This song was Clapton's first recorded vocal. He sings co-lead with Paul Samwell-Smith. Relf is on the track, playing harp and 3rd harmony on the choruses and backup during the guitar solo.

    S.... ....

I know this is an old post, but sure sounds like Keith Relf singing lead to me.

  28. S.... ....

I was so lucky to have been around when excellent music like this was being played!

  29. r.... m....

Mom and Dad let the Beatles in you're front door - and that was the end - long live rock and roll - and drugs

  30. e.... ....

Sex drugs and rock n roll, baby. That was then, but now... do rock stars even get any pussy nowadays? Do rockstars even exist nowadays? lol I haven't heard a rock song on the radio in months and haven't heard a NEW one in ... oh god how long?

  31. A.... V....

Well, that's what rock used to be about: breaking the limits a moralist society had set. Too bad now that's what pop stars do, and most rock stars fall straight into line.

  32. C.... K....

good point, no one would have the balls to record this song today, at least definitely not in the darker spirit of grateful dead's version. the yardbird's played this song very up tempo and poppy so the lyrics could easily fly past you.

  33. C.... ....

ergh i dont think you get it.......the truth only came out because he was dead.......the state thought saville was "untouchable" when alive

He wouldnt have been persecuted if he was alive...lets just face it

  34. S.... ....

Love the band, love the song!

  35. P.... e....

    Love it!

  36. w.... ....

When bumming kids was ok. a simpler, gentler time...

  37. T.... ....

Actually Jonny Lang recorded a cover in '97. Which isn't all that long ago.

  38. G.... ....

If that lump of filth were still alive he'd be facing prosecution. A classic predator who used his high profile to attract victims; I bet the maggots are having trouble keeping him down.

  39. m.... b....

jimmy savile's favourite song i believe

  40. M.... B....

Listen to Ten Years After's version...this one looks tame compared to that

  41. T.... ....

i just liked the yardbrirds and 60s

  42. S.... ....

I can barely deal with today's music! Thank God for these classics!

  43. H.... N....

Clapton was cool back then. The Armarni suits and Fenders ruined him.

  44. m.... ....

    oh-oh-oh-oh-oh .. oh my TVC15.. nice.

  45. e.... ....

This version has a pop feel with a bit of rockabilly in it.

  46. D.... G....

I love this old early 60's sound with the heavy reverb on the mic. Sounds so much like my old band without the hamonica and of course my guitar player wasn't as sweet as EC. Thanks for posting

  47. E.... G....

@titostacos Van Morrison did a great cover of this, you should check it out

  48. A.... K....

Pozdrowienia dla wszystkich dziewczyn z NK-63

  50. M.... ....

    fly high bird

  51. M.... ....

@LICKMYNUTSSHITTYSIDE Wow! I bet it took your great mind a whole week to come up with that one! It will probably take two weeks for you to read this. Well, when one can only think of insults, it is a sign of a small mind.

  52. K.... J....

@jmanmoonwalk4 I believe the original is by muddy waters.

  53. D.... ....

This is a song for Michael Le Vell from Coronation Street.

  54. w.... ....

@ILYAmbria the first recorded version was by sonnyboy williamson 1 in 1937,

  55. m.... ....

    @jmanmoonwalk4

Yeah. The original sounds more like "Sir, would you like to take a seat over here?"

  56. M.... ....

Terrible cover. This is a much to "safe" version of a clasic blues tune.

  57. f.... ....

    @DeedleDeedleDumplin Cool.

  58. f.... ....

@DeedleDeedleDumplin That's your opinion ("my son John" : ) I've never liked The Faces' recordings, or much of Stewart's solo stuff after that, but I can't gainsay Rod's voice - I think he's a good singer, even though his voice is not 'my cup of tea', but I do think his 1964 recording of Good Morning Little School Girl is excellent, similarly his vocals with Jeff Beck during 1967--1968.
I also think Rod premiered the Robert Plant style-of-singing on vinyl - e.g. "Rock My Plimsoul" 1967.

  59. b.... ....

My god, that Clapton chap's overrated!

  60. f.... ....

Rod Stewart's version of 1964 is much better (and rare).

  61. H.... K....

It is a cover. The original was by Sonny Boy Williamson I.

  62. H.... K....

It is a cover. The original was by Sonny Boy Williamson I.

  63. 7.... ....

listen to the jonny lang version it's amazing compared with this

  64. m.... ....

    @jmanmoonwalk4

This is innocent? This is Wooderson boderline pedo shit, too!

  65. T.... ....

@jmanmoonwalk4 This was originally done by Don and Bob on the ARGO label in I think 1962 but maybe 1961. I love the original but this one's pretty good too.

  66. A.... E....

Is this the first guitar solo Clapton ever recorded?

  67. k.... m....

@ohiosevere i know stevie overcame drug addiction and then died in a plane crash aint life a bitch

  68. H.... W....

    That's The Right Sound!

  69. Z.... T....

@asmorgan88 This is comming from a fan of Lady Ga Ga and "Pro" wrestling? Wow, I think your opinion just diminished to a pile of what's coming out of your mouth! Why don't you post a video showing us your guitar solo King Douche! Maybe you can show us how Clapton should have done it!

  70. S.... C....

God rest Keith, love Clapton before he sold out. SRV died in vain on a heli to open for him, God rest Stevie's soul too.

  71. W.... S....

@jmanmoonwalk4 Good Morning little Schoolgirl was first recorded in 1937 by Sonny Boy Williamson, another great version is by Ten Years After.

  72. R.... ....

    @jmanmoonwalk4

Sonny Boy Williamson is credited on the label but this version of the song was written by Don Level & Bob Love according to the BMI

  73. e.... ....

I like the original song played by Sonny Boy Williamson II better.

  74. A.... M....

not only the yardbirds were lucky to replace clapton with beck, but clapton was also lucky to have found the bluesbreakers and then cream and after that still have a sucessful solo career =)

  75. 0.... ....

Eric looked so preppy in those photos. He must have 18 - 20.

  76. 0.... ....

When Clapton left, the Yardbirds were so lucky to have been able to replace him with Jeff Beck.

  77. t.... ....

yeah, I'm going to agree with that. Clapton sounds like he's ready to leave for the Bluesbreakers. He kind of looks like it too in those photos!

  78. a.... ....

Has any one put up his song?

  79. a.... ....

Yeah its buy Sonny Boy Williamson 1, not 2 but one. John Lee not Aleck Rice Millar, not the one who has loads of videos posted on youtube. I know its confusing.

  80. T.... ....

    great song

  81. t.... ....

Is this a cover? Where'd they get it? It's funny how it sounds so cute and AM radio and then Clapton sounds like he's ready to be in Cream. Y'know?

  82. s.... ....

    nice post Mr.Moonwalk!!
