XTC - Statue Of Liberty Lyrics

The first time I saw you standing in the water
You must have been all of a thousand feet tall
Nearly naked - unashamed like Herod's daughter
Your love was so big
It made New York look small

You've been the subject of so many dreams
Since I climbed your torso
Oh!
My statue of Liberty
Boo Boo
Impaled on your hair
What do you do
Do Do to me
Boo Boo

I leaned right over to kiss your stoney book
A little jealous of the ships with whom you flirt
A billion lovers with their cameras
Snap to look and in my fantasy
I sail beneath your skirt

    Banned by the BBC !

then you know it has to be good !

Anyone know what kind of bass Colin is playing here? Bernard Sumner used a guitar like that in the Joy Division days. Quite a bizarre headstock.

I even leaned over to kiss your stoney book...

Is that Joe Jackson on keys?

    s.... a....

No, it's Barry Andrews who was later to be the vocalist in Shriekback. Joe Jackson covered this song, though.

I think if Barry Andrews stayed they could of been bigger

    2:25 There he goes

    J.... s....

One of my favorite keyboard players

    J.... s....

He was a great keyboard player, but terrible songwriter. His two songs on Go 2 are the worst songs on the album.

I think their catalogue is pretty wonderful, though it is a shame they supposedly barely made a living off their music

If I didn’t know better, I’d say this was Joe Jackson. Thank you, Brits.

But better and I like Joe Jackson. I've been into xtc since 78, they are still one of my favourite bands. My dad's friend was in a band that covered Making plans for Nigel...that was that. 40 years ago

Eric Hoberg discovered XTC in ‘89 with Oranges and Lemons. Remember where I was. Mayor of Simpleton. Played the album over and over. I have so many of their albums now. I lack only a couple. Non Such I love.

    M.... L....

Funny because Joe Jackson covered this very same song.

  7. D.... E....

Early pop 45 a near hit for them. Barry Andrews on synth. Lads.

wow so did costello start this sound or was it xtc first...wow very amped up this year model sound.

    K.... S....

I wonder, too. Both got their start around the same time.

Lots of interesting bands came along between 77-79 it was a golden era for music! XTC were at the vanguard from where I was standing at the time. Probably them & EC, Talking Heads, B52's oh god I could go on all day

    K.... S....

Its the sound of the times. You could also say it sounds almost identical to Joe Jacksons "Is She Really Going Out With Him" pretty darn similar I'd say.

    K.... S....

    Also very Be-Bop Deluxe/Bill Nelson

There used to be a live version from Old Grey Whistle Test on Youtube. It was really good, sounded better than the studio recording.

Geee, looks like U2 copied that start for vertigo
