Wye Oak - Lifer Lyrics
You worried I have given
Have lsot direction for the cause
Have traded truth for confidence
Went back on all my promises
I am not old but I've become
And stumbling on without a pause
Can only go so long
Did you say that I was the lifer
Did you say that life could be better
It seems to those who know me best
My luck is wild and in excess
I don't why some suffer so
And others never fear to go
Undo myself for your affair
I've shown you everything I am
You choose or not to understand
There is a logic to the rule
The end is kind, the mean is cruel
I have to love the life I make
Make up for all the space I take
Mistaken for an oversight
The absence of my appetite
The source of all my arrogance
I left it up to chance
I believed that I was the lifer
I believed that life could be better
I want to see you rise again
To see life in your eyes again
To feel your pulse is beating strong
To prove all of us wrong
Will you say that you are the lifer
Do you think that life could be better
Will you say that I am the lifer
Do you think that life could be better

love love love come to Portugal please
Great song, but the video just reminded me of the Dune movie, likely shot at the same locales.
"i have to love the life I make/to make up for the space I take" This.
Love the guitar work in this song. Reminds me of Red House Painters.
This song is very beautiful and very relate-able. One of my favourites on the new album.
My dog passed away just before they released this song, and some of these lyrics just really struck an emotional chord with me (particularly 'I want to see you rise again, to see life in your eyes again, to feel your pulse is beating strong, to prove all of us wrong'). Their music has gotten me through a lot of bad times, and I cannot wait to see them in concert again in July.
great video
This song is great, i just wish the bit between 2:00 and 2:45 continued until the end of the song. I want the energy to keep rising!
damn what a fantastic song!
"I want to see you rise again / to see life in your eyes again" is... a way to heal.
the end is kind the mean cruel. love you mine

Sometimes the darkness brings closure to the chapters worth burning. This is so great and speaks to liberation. My wings have been tied up against my will for far to long.. seeking the approval and love that doesn't exist from a father that never believed in his little girl. Although you sold my innocence My wings are freed up now . #metoo. I forgive you.
I just heard a live version of this song on the TV on some random show this morning. It brought me back to the 1980's reminding of the Paisley Underground sounds of California of the early mid & mid 1980's (i.e., The Bangles, The Three O'Clock, The Rain Parade, Opal, etc) or the various jangly guitar rock during that same time around the country (ie., REM, Let's Active, Salem 66, Pylon, etc)....
So so soothing. The album's lyrics stand out as their best. This and "The instrumental" our some of the best songs I've heard all year.
i cry when hear this song, i love so much
great song

I enjoyed Jenn's solo work with Flock of dimes, this reminds me of that album.
one of my favourite bands ever
2:00 logré sentir cada acorde, que hermoso <3
really enjoyed Tween.. they are never short on material or talent.
The synchronicity of these lyrics with my life right now caused a bit of catharsis. The mark of good lyricism in my book is in crafting verses that are succinct, cohesive, and just vague enough to make any of us feel like we could be living them. Illustrated so beautifully here.
This may have already eclipsed all their previous work to become my new favorite, and that's saying a heck of a lot.
Touching lyrics...loved the song! Thank you for sharing. So excited for your new album, too. 🎶💞 (pjw, this song has meaning for you.)
These two are never disappointing.
I was really waiting for this <3
Can’t wait for the album! This song and “Not Natural” are excellent.
