Wings - Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five Lyrics

On no one left alive in 1985, will ever do
She may be right
She may be fine
She may get love but she won't get mine
'cos i got you
Oh i oh i
Well i just can't enough of that sweet stuff
My little lady gets behind
Interlude

On my mama said the time would come
When i would find myself in love with you
I didn't think i never dreamed
That i would be around to see it all come true
Woh i oh i
Well i just can't get enough of that sweet stuff
My little lady gets behind

  5. D.... B....

    Paul McCartney DRUNK!!

  6. T.... ....

I was a kid when this came out. Used to spend summers at the neighborhood pool. This was played on the jukebox a lot back then. The song played the most though was Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group. The pool manager got so tired of hearing it he removed it from the jukebox.

  7. L.... 4....

Alright, but why does he sound like that! 😳

  8. B.... ....

I feel like this is the wrong place for my opinion....Paul=least fave beatle. I will not even admit that the beatles were a good band because of him. His ego destroyed my appreciation of him but this freaking album blows the back of my head back every time. This song is one of the greatest ever written....but I swear I would give Paul stink eye if we ever met. Stupid over compensating egomaniac with this album under his belt...gahhhhh ffs crank it loud!!!!

  9. s.... l....

    goed nummer

Paul McCartney doesn't even sound like Paul McCartney.

    Q.... ....

@Doodle Dangernoodle well thats not nice, i was just being sarcastic

    Q.... ....

@Marius Peltonen How was I supposed to know it was sarcasm? Literally nothing in your sentence indicated that.

    Q.... ....

@Doodle Dangernoodle who in their right mind would actually believe the theory?

    Q.... ....

@Doodle Dangernoodle and your response was unnecessarily aggressive

    Q.... ....

@Doodle Dangernoodle just had to throw that out there

  15. E.... A....

Me and one cigarrete i just recorded!

  16. J.... S....

This is a TOP macca song, piano and singing....live rehearsal performance if his best recorded live performance.

  17. J.... S....

How pathetic that after 53 LONGGGGG years, JPM fans can’t find find his death certificate.....the JPM man WUZ a loser in life AND death but faux Paul rocks on into advanced old age, JPM vs faux Paul is textbook example of loser vs winner as even JPM fans are whining and moaning and squalling about him all over macca youtubes ......born basement dweller losers.

  18. J.... S....

If JPM didn’t have squalling lame fans moaning that he died all over the internet he would have no fans at all. Now you are telling me I should care about a silly pretty boy pin up who died when I WUZ 9 years old and in love with Davy by then? You are telling me I should care about a pretty boy second fiddle to John in early beatles when John WUZ my favorite and clearly the leader of the Beatles? If Beatles replaced a weak pinup boy with a music genius Mozart it WUZ best decision they ever made and turned them from a teen boy band to the greatest group of the late sixties. Thus I’m gonna have to side with and love and admire faux Paul in Beatles group and solo because JPM was so lame not even his fans can legally prove he died but use pathetic album clues and doctored fake photos. If the man JPM died he has the fans he deserves, wimpy lazy basement conspiracies kooks. Thus he WUZ a loser in life and in death.

  19. J.... S....

Faux Paul is called a musical genius and a Mozart but JPM called dead according to his PID fans. As mid seventies faux Paul song says, it’s as simple as that, would you rather be alive or dead? The he rehearsal live promo of 1985 video is probably one of if not Macca’s best live performances as gives it hearts and soul.

  20. J.... S....

FAUX PAUL ROCKS. AND. IS HOT while JPM Is cold and ROTS. This first sentence is for PIDers in these comments only as rest of us know Paul is Paul.

  21. J.... ....

So Paul, I "forced" my 20 year old daughter to listen to a bunch of songs from my Paul McCartney playlist tonight. I wanted to show her the incredible range in your voice. So I had her listen to Let It Be, Beware My Love, Motor of Love, 1985, Smile Away, Getting Closer, Coming Up, This One, How Many People, and So Bad. She sang along to Let It Be (I think babies come out of the mother's womb singing Let It Be), but when 1985 came on, she sat up (yes she was laying on the floor falling asleep to Motor of Love) and said she really liked the tune, especially your voice, and then added it to her Spotify playlist. She also added This One to her playlist. Awesome choices, but I actually thought she would like Smile Away too. There's no accounting for taste. <3

    J.... ....

you're the greatest mother out there do you know that

I'm teaching myself to play piano. This is gonna be the first song I learn and I will be able to play. Love it! Takes me back to high school.

    S.... ....

The first song I learned on piano was Yesterday. I think it's a requirement. :)

    S.... ....

Yesterday really lends itself to guitar. Maybe Hey Jude or Let it Be or Lady Madonna

    S.... ....

@Big Mac All of those are great on piano.

  27. J.... G....

This song was on the back side of the 45 Band on the run. I played this on my way to juniors farm

  37. M.... C....

Back on New Years eve 1984 - 85 (never know which year to label the eve as) when i was 12, we were on holiday for a big family reunion in hawaii (we had flown in from london) and my dad kept playing this song because of its relevancy. I was relieved that George orwell’s predictions for ‘84 did not come true. I remember being shocked when my brother pointed out we were closer to 2000 than we were 1970, now we nearly are closer to 2040 than 2000, terrifying how fast time goes.

    M.... C....

Scarry but true!! I was born in 68 and I'm right there with you my friend!!

  38. V.... ....

  41. M.... ....

this is how you end an album

  42. J.... P....

Sorry no if not 4 any other reason The Band on the Run album is enough to get Sir Paul into any Rock n Roll Hall of Fame ever! What a great musician to emulate snd learn from. Humble and proud at the same time. Every musician should take a page from the band and the man himself.

  43. J.... S....

See Macca video of online rehearsal of this song playing and singing. He destroys the piano and vocals, gives the song his ALL. John and George whined like women to the press about Paul then so DESERVED it when this so blew past them. Their early seventies stuff sounds dated now but this sounds timeless......

    J.... S....

I've seen Paul in concert last year and they did this song so perfectly .

    J.... S....

Cellophane Flowers , so LUCKY you saw this.....I saw video of him doing it year you saw.....

  44. A.... S....

The outro to this song still impresses me, very clever and effective. Well, it's Paul McCartney after all.
One of my fave songs is SMILE AWAY from the RAM album, it Rocks and has very funny lyrics.

    A.... S....

    too right

    A.... S....

Penny Lane has some pretty clever and effective substance to it also. that's all I have to say!

  45. A.... C....

I had this on a 45 when it came out.

    A.... C....

    Adam C. I did too...and the album

    A.... C....

Youre gonna get mad at me, but what is a "45"

  46. M.... J....

It is still very much pleasant to listen to this song after all those years, the whole album in fact.

  47. S.... ....

If Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five is so good why isnt there a Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Six

    GORGEOUS SONG SIR PAUL!!! ❤

  49. C.... ....

I did some digging, and finally found the answer to the question I've had forever ~ 'What does the French mean?'

"The recording also contained French-language speech, which roughly translates as:

'I hope that, thanks to this campaign, many French people will rediscover the charms. So, let me remind you that our tourist help service is there for you. As you know, we send free of charge a variety of guides, lists of addresses... London and its suburbs, in French of course. Recommended guides on Great Britain. Guides of farms offering a room for the night. Guides of the inns. Lists of organisations specialised in séjours au pair... as a paying host. Guides for motorised tourists, featuring a translation of the English driving book, in French.' "

From the comments on original article ~

Xavier Kreiss Saturday 17 September 2011
"The French voice is a friend of mine, Pierre Le Sève, of the BBC’s French language service, who died in April 2009.

In the song, he can be heard giving tourist information, in his regular programme called “Le Flash Touristique”. He said he’d had quite a bit of trouble getting paid for his contribution, and that eventually he received a cheque for £5 or £6…"

    Anne-Marie Le Seve Friday 21 September 2012
"Thanks so much for this – the french voice is indeed my father Pierre Denis Le Seve. It is 3 years since he died and at last i can listen to the song without crying (sometimes!) I am so proud that his voice is captured forever in this great song and he has his place in pop history."

  51. D.... H....

The best of McCartney after the Beatles

    D.... H....

Dan H , have you listened to all of his music after the Beatles or are you basing that opinion on the critics? The man has created a LOT of music over the decades, in every genre and style imaginable. I think BAND ON THE RUN is a great album, although I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite one. I have favorite songs from every one of his albums.

    D.... H....

@catnc1 It's not like Dan was insulting McCartney. He just thinks this song was his best after the Beatles. No need to be defensive. I mean, this song JAMS!

    D.... H....

catnc1 , AMEN.....this is ONE of his greatest but folks like to go by critics

  52. T.... S....

Can you imagine how Paul must have felt finishing off this masterpiece? Obliterated in the press for the entire first half of the 70’s as the “Beatles wash-up,” finishing off the brass recordings, then hearing this come through the mixing studio speakers? What an unbelievable triumph.

    T.... S....

Tom Smith , he WAS THE REAL SURVIVOR of The Beatles.....folks even NOW against him, the moron Paul is dead kids ALL over internet, male Paul haters and John fanboys....Paul had HARDEST time fifty years.....

    T.... S....

Sloth from The Goonies , they were ALL assholes especially other Beatles and he wiped em ALLout though earlier solo good. Other Beatles and critics tried to STACK the deck against him....

    T.... S....

    @Joy Stinson So true!

    T.... S....

Sloth from The Goonies l you WIN the iNTERNET.....dude is STILL doing it..blew past others mid seventies...outsold them with records, PACKED stadiums worldwide mid seventies...old Paul hating critics LONGGGGGG gone but lasted another decade or so, retired and so vicious new rock critics re-evaluated all solo Paul upgraded much of it, some seriously. When John killed, wife of one critic christagau said “they killed the wrong Beatle”.....turned out christagau and wife friends with John and yoko. Rolling Stone editor biography of RS editor, wenner, noted he and John had an affair very early seventies .....John and yoko stooped VERY low and sold out THEIR SOULS for their ROCK CRITIC COOL MANTLE throughout seventies....and yoko’s till to present.....her stuff and John’s got christagau A grade except the roundly unpopular left wing cause coat-tailing sometime in NYC album, so bad even rock critics could not strain to give good review to. That series of Rolling Stone John 70 interviews where he bitched and downed other rock singers especially Paul made the mag which was ailing and became Lennon remembers book.

John so upset over rolling stone bad review of mind games review went on long lost weekend drunk, did bad rock n roll album then retired five years. When George quit being treated as the best solo Beatle he finally retired. John and George came back just before death. George did have great success with wilburys and cloud nine. Ringo also retired and came back. Despite Paul slogging throughout music changes throughout decades, he never retired though urged to by critics both sides of Atlantic.

It shocked the other solo Beatles to finally be eventually treated by critics and the press the way Paul was in beginning. Rolling stone editor made reviewer of Paul first solo album rewrite and downgrade Paul first solo album, McCartney. I kept up with all this then, collected both Beatles, buying up collections from older fans, and new solo Beatles early days forward. It was bad those days. John was my favorite early Beatle till went off deep end, George and Paul favorite later Beatle. George and John favorite early solo Beatles but liked Paul solo music as well. I got tired of John and George pity parties in the press, lecturing causes and the rock critic John fanboys and the wings concert I saw so great, Paul became favorite solo Beatle but liked music of the others. All made mistakes then, but Paul as a whole was classier but he too make mistakes along but at least he didn’t aggressively diss the others or their music in the press. It was so bad the general press thought they were very immature.

    T.... S....

@Joy Stinson, so in a nutshell, you're saying that Paul rose above all the hatred toward him and produced the best music ever made? I will most heartily agree with you on that point! May Paul McCartney live in peoples' hearts and souls till the end of time!

  53. M.... S....

Gives me the chills. Pure genius.

  54. J.... B....

Band on the Run is such an underrated album!!

    J.... B....

Uh, no. It's Paul's highest regarded record.

    J.... B....

Yes but usually Lennon's career is brought up more, and All Things Must Pass, Imagine and Plastic Ono Band became more iconic, though this record to me is better. Also, a lot of people undermine this record as just a couple of tracks, when actually the tracks reference each other and are very well put together, which makes for the "album experience" overall to be much more gratifying, which I don't notice as much in records that are well more remembered than this.

    J.... B....

Julián Bufarull It's true that the critics have generally been harsh with Paul. He was perceived as being the one who broke up the Beatles (although he was not really), and that brought hostility from critics, I think. Expectations for him are very high; he often gets compared to himself. Not every song is "Eleanor Rigby," nor would one want it to be. He has created all kinds of music from classical to country and everything in between. Music buyers and concert goers have always loved him. Unfortunately, the world tends not to fully appreciate an artist until after he is gone, but Paul has enjoyed quite a bit of appreciation overall really.

    J.... B....

Paul, a multi talented guy. He is even writing a musical at the moment . He is very much appreciated in the music world nowadays @catnc1

    J.... B....

Julián Bufarull , considered cool then to like other solo Beatles....now Macca seventies considered good or better and John and George whined like women in the press against Paul. They were embarrassing and acted like pussies thinking putting him do down elevated him.

  55. S.... J....

If the Beatles continued in the 70s I could hear this song on their album.

  56. J.... D....

    movie theme right here

    A.... ....

The album os like a movie. The album tells the story of a fugitive trying to get back to his girl whos marrying a sergant who trys to kill Paul in this song. She runs away with him and the ending is the chase between them and the sergants men as they try to kill Paul and his band of fugitives. Jet is the girl and a lot of it goes back to earlier songs in the album.

    A.... ....

@Thomas Tales Bloody brilliant. Thank you for this.

When this song was released ... 1985 seemed like a long way off into the future ... Ha. I should be thankful I'm still around for the memories. Great tune that showcases the genius that is Paul McCartney ... I love the 'band on the run' reprise.

    T.... T....

So true. I was 6 years old when this album came-out, and so I understand completely what you're saying. 😊

    T.... T....

Let's not for great forget the legend the gorgeous Jimmy McCulloch and so is his brother Jack who was the drummer Denny Laine also and the drummer of course Joe English legends

    T.... T....

Ana Parada , why do you ALWAYS do this when OTHERS are being complimented? You are always SO JEALOUS when especially Paul is complimented. If we want tO COMPLIMENT Paul we WILL......

    T.... T....

@Joy Stinson hey Joy good for you I'm glad to hear from you I'm glad that you like to compliment Paul McCartney a person that you don't even know but that's okay and I do appreciate Paul McCartney and think he is a really great and deep performer and the way he does his craft and all the songs that he's done it is very impressive so please don't you don't know me so stop judging me!!!!!from what I've read and what I seen an interviews I've never heard much of Paul McCartney and that wife that he had of his ever going to Jimmy's funeral or helping bat-family out or anything like that so I'm going by what I don't hear so don't please don't if you don't see that to be true then you're clearly blinded Paul McCartney still human he has faults just like the rest of us stop idolizing these people....he has good faults and bad just like the rest of us that's all I do appreciate but what he's done with music is phenomenal yes it is very good and interesting but he's not the only one that's great like that either but I do like Paul McCartney and I and I don't mean to come across as being jealous of him know I'm not jealous of him I'm very angry that he didn't go and help Jimmy McCulloch Jimmy could have been alive today perhaps maybe they could have done more that's all not angry about it I shouldn't use that word it's just I find that very sad how they seem to be very fickle...the only like two people when they were in their band and then to heck with the resident that's how they come across like I said I don't know Paul McCartney.... Stop judging others Joy also you're doing the same thing

    T.... T....

    Im with you!

  70. G.... G....

Are you kidding me this song is amazing.

    G.... G....

Ana Parada , read YOUR comments on this thread.....tell me if they are CHRISTIAN...DO THEY CONVERT ANYONE?.....know a tree by fruit it bears.....also talking to a lot of folks.? What does that mean? Paul/wing associates THEN throughout that time? Speculation? Who? If I were Paul a a dude from my band years earlier left and OD’ed I PROBABLY WOULD NOT TALK PUBLICLY ABOUT IT EITHER........because FOLKS like you, SLANDERING, accusing or possibly who would sue even if FOR SURE THROWN OUT OF COURT.

Jimmy’s story sounds like a small town boy with staggering talent got HIMSELF CHEWED UP ......with that medicine jar he was functional enough to write and sing about repeatedly on tour but which EVENTUALLY got him.....around three years later.

It is because of YOUR BEHAVIOR all over youtube about Paul and jimmy that he and ALL FAMOUS FOLKS HAVE TO BE CAREFUL.......even in 79...........LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Before the internet.

If they say ANYTHING they can be sued.....SLANDERED.....hard to sue for defamation of character in US, laws differ by countries. Folks all over internet making up ALL KINDS OF CONSPIRACIES.....especially about famous folks, nut things like Tavistock, someone killed them, they killed someone.....which you are stating McCartney INDIRECTLY KILLED JIMMY....to a lesser extent others in wings. Of COURSE you are going to blame McCartney the most because rich and famous......

    G.... G....

Ana Parada , Paul McCartney WAS NOT ABLE TO ATTEND HIS OWN FATHER’S FUNERAL.....very beginning of Wings world tour and DID NOT WANT THREE RING CIRCUS OF PRESS AT at dad funeral. Paul MCCARTNEY.....Linda who so called Christian keeps calling UGLY but tells me I need to quit glorifying him......but when jimmy died in 79.....PAUL MCCARTNEY had to gather together a drummer and guitarist BECAUSE JIMMY LEFT, was RECORDING a an album and working n beginning a tour. Again, NO he did not stop and attend jimmy’s funeral.....he was WORKING.....and as didn’t attend his father’s funeral to prevent a MEDIA CIRCUS.....no, he didn’t attend it. Had jimmy stayed on HE could have been still in the group and not spiraled down as he did. Jimmy was of course an INFINITELY superior guitarist to Jules holland.

Are you an anti Semitic “Christian?” You have called linda and McCartneys kids by her ugly.

    G.... G....

Ana Parada , Linda was no brilliant musician, but could do adequate harmonies and has had music whereas Paul has not, except sixties for
when university music teacher girlfriend mom taught him some music theory and counter point. Linda however UNUSUAL Beatle synchronicity went to exact same upscale NY state private women college as yoko where linda had two years of piano. Linda played pretty well on mini moog. Some of her solo music like seaside woman and white coat is pretty good. Paul’s dad could not sight read music but played several instruments, knew notes, chords as was a local rag time jazz band leader in 20s and taught Paul what he knew on piano and guitar. By reputation, dad was an excellent pianist like Paul who both played by earl

If YOU aren’t a musician yourself......don’t think I’d judge linda as being untalented. I enjoy singing alto but never had lessons, let alone two years. Her harmonies are adequate but no doubt Paul had stronger voice, for two decades or more had very wide octave range and sense of harmony in early Beatles and later double tracking his solo stuff.

YOU ARE A DISGRACE...dissing the DEAD AND the living, insulting folks over appearance, your interpretation of their lack of talent .....and your PROPAGANDA campaign to slander and blame and to accuse folks STANDING against slander and YOUR BRAINWASHING campaign as .....glorifying the person.

YOU are a good example of why FEW folks want to be a Christian these days.

I’m sure Jimmy was a VERY nice guy and I know he was incredibly talented.......but fans like you do a DISSERVICE to his MEMORY.

    G.... G....

Ana Parada , it doesn’t MATTER how linda looked.....You are blessed if you are attractive, but FOR SHAME....the woman has been dead two decades. He loved her, she helped him a lot along, emotional support being with him after his emotional explosion of the horrible mess of The Beatles breakup......her family could help him and the man was in bed for a year, drinking and in PROFOUND a depression till linda came in put a guitar in his hand and got him writing again. FOR SHAME.....you may not KEEP your good looks, illness, accident or ANYTHING.....none of us know. You need to LAY OFF BLAMING OTHERS......get a LIFE about jimmy being dead.....It is sad to lose ANYONE, especially young, but YOU NEED TO GO ON. We can remember and honor the dead, but BLAMING other folks is NEGATIVE.

I repeat...linda is a blonde haired....light eyed Jew.....in the diaspora after Romans took Jerusalem in 79AD, jews scattered around the world and some intermarried along with others. I have met two others who were though not a lot of Jews in my area, but have met two blonde Jews.

You are very shallow to put so much stock in appearance.

    G.... G....

Ana Parada , jimmy’s PARENTS should have kept up with him better......sounds like.....checked up on him along....if he was that bad by small faces sounds like THEY should have called parents, suggested rehab......That’s right, if dude ok enough as PERFORMED extremely well last wings over world tour, rock show....but cuz RICH AND FAMOUS......it’s McCartney see, not later bunch of musicians or family or friends a year years at home....but MCCARTNEY see cuz he’s FAMOUS.....though dude McCulloch was functional....three albums counting wings over America, world tour and concert movie of last concert.....FUNCTIONED well enough for all that...not counting promo videos online. Did I forget to say BLAME CELEBS...big ones....for EVERYTHING.....that is BASIC tenet of RIGHT WING PID and Tavistock.....blame and hate those LIBRUL Beatles, half dead, OVER FIFTY YEARS AGO broke up....especially hate that jew lover LIBRUL causes backer well say he’s an imposter and renew old kid created hippie hoax from fifty years ago.

YOU JUST GO ON ALL PAUL YOUTUBES with your jimmy stuff, and many times launch into WUZ all McCartney or wings members or Linda’s faults.....now you are claiming MANAGER PAUL WAS A DOPE PUSHER, SERIOUS DOPE BESIDES POT, TO GET EM HIGH! ROPE EM IN.......

So why didn’t jimmy STAY with wings if manager Paul was pushing dope to him. Jimmy was a fool to go to less famous band. Wings second best selling group in seventies, next to bee gees? See you throw a lot out in your slander......but......it doesn’t HOLD UP.
