Wilson, Steven - Refuge Lyrics

Here in the wreckage
The winter is hard
I sleep in the same clothes
That I dragged through the mud

And if you ask me
Nothing's changed
There's nowhere else I can go
So I stay

We're writhing rats
We make beds in the straw
And then we build houses
Paint our names on the door

And if you ask me again
Is this life?
I don't see I have a choice
But I still smile

And bide my time

I who have no roots
And nowhere to go
And as for the future
Well, I really don't know

But if you ask me
I will nod
But if you ask me...

Here I am
Here I am

My dear wife
And my children of God
The borders were already drawn for us

Hold on to life
In this refuge of dirt
And search for a place you can breathe again

It's not a crime

I'd love to see you again
Sometime soon
But will you give back to me now
What you stole?

  17. C.... A....

Eriza los pelos.... Aquí el poder evocativo de la música, el dolor, la angustia, el abandono, pero por debajo la resiliencia.
    Grande, Mr. Wilson.
    Saludos desde Chile.

  18. I.... R....

I am 67 and listening music maybe 57 years, but this is something more than the music Steven. If it's P.Tree, Blackfield or SW, I can not find one bad song. And I listen your music really every day. Thanks a lot.

  19. P.... O....

Warning, this song will hit you like a sledgehammer, right in the feelz.

  26. S.... K....

Such a beautiful track goes to the heart especially at times like this where so many people are refuges and not wanted anywhere.... Open the borders and open your hearts to people who are desperate and in need for help. 😪

  27. D.... G....

someone please explain to me what he means by "will you give back to me now what you stole?" I love this song dearly but I don't understand the very last bit of lyrics. I have my own theories but I'm curious what you think about it.

    D.... G....

I _think_ what he might be referring to are all the natural resources first-world countries tend to "acquire" from the African continent. Oil, gas, diamonds, rare minerals, precious wood...

  28. D.... G....

someone please explain to me what he means by "will you give back to me now what you stole?" I love this song dearly but I don't understand the very last bit of lyrics. I have my own theories but I'm curious what you think about it.

“My dear wife, and children of god” has anyone ever produced music so emotionally charged (and pride inducing for me personally) as Steven Wilson? Er, no!

  36. T.... I....

This song is very powerful to me.i lost my primary care doctor to an awfuly rare brain disease. He was an amazing man, if I tried to explain it I'd be here all day. This song makes me think of him and idky. His family was absolutely robbed, dr parker was an absolutely amazing man. I just connect w the song it helps me remember him

  37. V.... ....

@stevenwilson what a beautiful song Steven. No more words for me but

  38. D.... L....

    real music.
    to the bone.
    to the heart.
    to the soul.

  39. w.... ....

As distasteful as boarders may seam they are very important. Imagine developing a society that respected its citizens, then allowing people that did not hold thoes values in in such numbers that it changed society to something very different.

  40. A.... S....

i love Steven Wilson, but this is way too much "copy/paste" of Pink Floyd, Have a cigar.

  41. f.... j....

Gracias por su musica muy buena¡

  42. M.... B....

    🕊🙏🏻

  43. j.... a....

To the Bone is probably my least favorite SW album, but this song is the one exception.

  44. M.... H....

The winter is over and it was very hard on me but here I am

  47. V.... F....

    Wow!!! Sublime

  48. A.... G....

This is the first time I listen to your album. With this song. My first language is not English and so pay no attention to the lyrics and just listen to the music... This is so emotional !!! Thank you Steven Wilson ❤

  49. G.... P....

4:22 gets me every fucking time. Pure awesomeness.

    MÜLTECİLERİ SUÇLAMAYIN EMPERYALİZM İ LANETLEYİN

  51. s.... ....

Merci Monsieur Wilson

  52. M.... P....

I keep looking out for tour dates in Liverpool here’s hoping 🤞👍

  53. C.... M....

Not a big fan of steven wilson but this song is briliant.....

  54. R.... L....

But if you ask me... Here I am.
    That line gives me chills.
The harmonica solo is just perfection.
This song gets better every time I listen to it.

  55. S.... G....

I listened to and enjoyed Blackfield, I listened to and loved Porcupine Tree, I listened to and admired the Steven Wilson band (how else can I call them? ) and then came Refuge...... what can I say. Is this the best ever written song ever?

  56. M.... T....

    Vivement demain soir <3.....

  57. F.... H....

The harmonica was superb !!! Thanks for this music !

  58. s.... ....

  59. C.... ....

Impressed about Paul Stacey's stuff, good guitar solo!

Such a powerful song..... such a tear jerker. One year later I finally get this album and it reminds me of how powerful this song really is.

  63. T.... S....

    Tears for fears

  64. L.... F....

I really think this might be my favourite SW song. Along with some gems from HCE.

  65. o.... j....

Anyone else interpreted this song as steven's choice of having a career but not a family ?

  66. S.... H....

    This song wrecks me...unbelievable...thanks Steven

  71. G.... F....

    A hurricane of a song.

  72. C.... A....

Temazo.... y tan apropiado ante una Humanidad que insiste, pese a los terrores del pasado, en revivir de distintas formas la represión al derecho de vivir en paz (vaya el guiño a Víctor Jara).

  73. C.... A....

WoW.... o Uau, ¿qué más puedo escribir? Temazo.

  74. j.... ....

One of the few older musical artists alive and still growing. Revelatory to see live. Went from 'OK I'll go to Steven Wilson' to 'I think I can make the next show 150 miles away - screw work!'.

  75. S.... D....

    king crimson lizard noooo

  76. s.... h....

If you are here commenting or if you saw him live I have the utmost respect for you. Steven Wilson's fans are the best of the best. I literally saw somebody turn in a lost wallet with the money intact at his show. No metal detectors. No rivalries. Polite fans of the most talented and real artist of our time. I thank you all for being you

  77. s.... h....

This song was so awesome live

  78. M.... S....

  80. L.... A....

As I smell and feel the winter breeze blowing in from my window, as the curtain moves so slowly, as everything else around me is almost completely still, listening to this song suddenly shook my soul

A good hearted person Mr. Wilson must be.

  91. R.... H....

    SW sempre fascinante
    😎👏👏👏👏

  92. P.... N....

This is by far the most orgasmic solo i ever heard..im literally paralyzed and then about to take off and explode in space like supernova type of thing... .then the landing............sublime.

  93. H.... R....

Im trully terrified by all the feelings this song can reach. Im werent aware about Stevens solo work, i was more into PT stuff, but this is seriously awesome! What talented musicians on this song.

  94. a.... ....

Cant thank Mr. Wilson enough to create one masterpiece after another. I will take his tunes to my grave. Living is such a pleasure with such songs

  95. D.... C....

This is so good! The composition , the text, the subject, the outro , the mouthorgan and guitar , incredible!

  96. A.... ....

The bad punctuation in these lyric-style videos always annoy me. I'm not sure who creates them but their schooling is terrible. The simple missing comma can change the meaning of a line.
