Wilson, Steven - Detonation Lyrics
Great God, I don't believe in you
But still I will do
What you want me to
Stand up and fight in the city streets
You expect of me
And the ones who are given it all
The good looks, the wealth
And the charm and the innocence
They are all gonna fall
But I will take it back
Hail God, I had a dream of you
And how you respond
They laugh and sneak
As they know you're weak
But I'll make them pay
With an IED
And the ones who are given it all
The good looks, the wealth
And the charm and the innocence
They are all gonna fall
But I will take it back
Whiny God, who the fuck are you?
Detonation for the greater good
Sweating, can hear my heart
'Cause when the world breaks
You will feel the blast

Why can't there be more stuff like this on the album!? Unlike most of the dreary crap that's led up to it..
who's the solo guitarist ? reminds me Don Mock
Mindblowing : everytime again .
j"adOre forever
Trip <3 Merci pour tout mon "cons-cri " 1967 .
Kind of thom yorke ish
I feel the vibe of Collecting Space here.
Just... wow!
Boring. Lacks layers and guitar riffs. syncopated drumming. That was PT sorry
You can really feel the tension at the end. Surreal solo.
Anyone else hears A love supreme in that bass line?
Most PT-like song from the album.
Starting from 5:31, the track reminds me of the PSone game Gran Turismo, particularly the menu where you had to choose what race to take. I could do the 2 h Endurance with this playing in the background.
Although the lyrics belong to To The Bone ,the melody reminds more of Grace of Drowning
The main rhythm is strikingly similar to "Harmony Korine" from Insurgentes.
Astounding... on the level of "Eden"
5:30 wow i love this part
STEVEN WILSON SHOULD BE A MUSICAL DEFLORATION.
No matter how much you admire the almost Santanesque guitar sequence towards the end, it's too long and over indulgent
Fantastic music!!!!!
My question is ,,, is the guitar solo real?.
sorry that was rude
A good friend saw you live tonight, and I was glad she shared, very nice, class act, obviously its for real. Without trying to upset the group: I am thinkin throwin Yes, Opeth and Police in a pot and stirrin it up a bit. Monster mix as well..
He played this live.. Really got the twang of his Telecaster during the groove.
Great guitar solo, it is engraved in my mind!
Epic song! Instrumentals are perfect <3
Steven Wilson has consistently been possibly the greatest musician of the last 20 years. Glad to see him getting more recognition. He is phenomenal.
Wow. That's all I can think of to say right now!
on repeat. Miss porcupine Tree!! Sooo prog :)
The beginning of this song instantly reminded me of Cymbal Rush by Thom Yorke
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvEOWNfx7lY
Great song....guitar solo seems for me, to be an hommage for Allan Holdsworth- RIP
During the instrumental part, it really goes back to 90s Porcupine Tree era, i'm getting "Coma Divine" flackbacks.
@Wadsmitter with MO I agree, but still can't hear anything Miles Davis' like there...
Probably the ultimate combination of electronica, prog and pop.
Any ideas on what the influence may be for the fusion passage? The nearest thing I can think of would be Alan Holdsworth, but that's way off.
I know I'm showing my age here but from 6.55 onward I would swear it was a lost recording by Focus, a dutch band from the early 70's. Have a listen to Focus 3, this could so easily be them with the most awesome Jan Akkerman on guitar.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Almost has a funk influence; I love it. Great album & song.
Um, yeah. This is a bit more like it.
Every song is a master piece ♥
It kind of drones on at parts. Still...pretty good!
David Kollar´s solo....wish it wouls be longer....It´s addictive...
the guitar here is just amazing, you really feel sense of hatered, self-hatered, despair, frustration, insanity. one of the best on the album.
6:53 :)))
That chord progression! Progressive pop
This is definitely not pop but prog rock
One of steven's greatest songs!
Probably the best song on the album imho....but ALL this album is smashing anyway..imho. Thank you Steven xxx
on behalf of those of us who maybe don't like the new stuff as much as some others do.... Thanks Steve for throwing us this bone!!
Harmony Korine
Wonderful song from the genius Mr Wilson ,,,,,
Lo mejor que podria hacer cualquier persona es escuchar esta cancion pro primera vez drogado, es toda una experiencia xD
This is right up there with SW's greatest ever songs. The solo is amazing too. Some wild jazz-fusion style playing all through it.
Excelente canción, voy por la cuarta vez que la escucho y cada vez descubro mas capas y detalles, genio Steven
It appears all of the versions of 'Detonation' have been taken down by YouTube...
Early Porcupine Tree vibe! Love it!
Wow! I can't. Believe the originality and creative nuances in this song. Best song possibly ever! Blown away
this gets better each time you listen to it
Awesome
this song reminds me of arriving somewhere kind of. this album is hard hitting i love it
Wow wow wow!!Loving this album and the songs that didn't make itSteven going Pop star ?I don't think so This Has a Raider /ancestral- like darkness
Jimmy Page may like this theme.
talk talk "i don't believe in you" ;)
The first part of the songs could easily be a Radiohead track. Felt a bit of Twilight Zoned the first time i listened to it
thanks for that song mister Wilson
masterpiece
WOW, fantastic song - and the guitar-solo is marvelous great. Thanks a lot & best wishes, Mr. David Kollar! Love and peace.
thanks
have new web, www.davidkollar.com
Before even hearing this note I was expecting a solo like this 8:37, this is where the solo satisfied me to the bone.
heh, I see what you did there >_>
Wow - I have this on repeat - third time through and it gets more special each time.......great song from start to finish. Well done Mr. Wilson - well done!
3:59 is somethin' special.
the lyrics
::::::::::::::::::::::
Great God, I don't believe in you
But still I will do
What you want me to
Stand up and fight in the city streets
This much I know
You expect of me
And the ones who are given it all
The good looks, the wealth
And the charm and the innocence
They are all gonna fall
But I will take it back
Pale God, I had a dream of you
And how you respond
When your ego's bruised
They laugh and sneer
'Cause they know you're weak
But I'll make them pay
With an IED
And the ones who are given it all
The good looks, the wealth
And the charm and the innocence
They are all gonna fall
But I will take it back
Whining God, who the fuck are you?
Detonation for the greater good
Swim here, come and hear my heart
'Cause when the world breaks
You will feel the blast
portishead songs
Wow, what a sick fucking song. In my opinion, one of the best song Wilson has written in the past 10 years
Yeah, pop album indeed xD Some people should stay away from drugs...
Most of them base their decisions on the singles on vivo. And you can't fault them for that. I've always found the most generic and bland tracks from albums are chosen for vivo
Ok. I can call Permanating a pop song but the other ones? Even Song Of I is wonderful song in Steven style(maybe little pop but is dark prg-pop;). So much reminds me songs like Puncture Wound, Track One and few other by Steven. There is nothing wrong with good pop music(via MJ,DepecheMode, some Queen songs, etc.)
Or maybe they should start doing drugs and loosen up their boundaries a little.
Wilson himself said that
Best song on the album.
Agreed. Song is a masterpiece !
The more and more I agree with you. Not sure yet though. :P
true dat
agree :)
Saw the show in Tampa. Amazing
Easily the best song on the album, which isn't saying much but I still think it stands right up there with the best solo material he's written.
A very Toto-ish ending. Love it. :-)))
Hey, its my solo and tremolo low gtr riffs. :)
Pretty red collar, Kollar :D
That sounds like a Fender Telecaster
Woow this is simply not to describe in words, that groove and solo..... thank you for playing this
fantastic creation congrats
Fantastic Guitar solo...Bravo
This song is epic. Mind blown !
This solo is killing time!
A massive greatness
It's David Kollar
thanks :)
Does he sing "Great God" or "Grey God"?
Great God
I feel Detonation is the perfect combination of his previous works and this new one.
My favorite of the album after the first listen.
Mellow, melodic, and heavy.
and being politically globalist
Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief" days meets Porcupine Tree's early psychedelic recordings. Best song on the album.
I hear so much Radiohead in SW work
"You keep me listening to the Bends"
@Wadsmitter what of Miles Davis work do you hear there? (just interested :) )
Fucking unbelievable song, such a cool solo!!!
The solo is played by David Kollar
was he the same guy on no twilight on sw's first solo album?
wait nm that was Mike Outram
Josh Haider-Smith the solo is from David Kollar. Great guitarist.
