Wilson Pickett - Fire And Water Lyrics

Every single day, I got a heartache comin' my way
I don't wanna say goodbye
Baby but look at the tears in my eye
I don't wanna say goodbye
Mama but look at the way you made me cry
Every way that's nice
You show you've got a heart that's made of ice

And I know

Fire and water must have made you their daughter
You've got what it takes, to make a poor man's heart break
A poor mans heart break

Baby you turn me on
But as quick as a flash your love is gone
Baby I'm gonna leave you now
But I'm gonna try to make you grieve somehow

Fire and water must have made you their daughter
You've got what it takes to make a poor man's heart break
A poor man's heart break
And my heart is breakin' too

(ahh yeah)

(alright)

I don't wanna say goodbye baby
But look at the tears you made me cry
Every way that's nice
You show you've got a heart that's made of ice
And I know

Fire and water must have made you their daughter
You've got what it takes to make a poor mans heart break

Fire, fire and water must have made you their daughter
Baby you've got what it takes to make a poor man's heart break
Heart break

Baby and my heart is breakin'
Ohh my heart is breakin'
Ohh listen

It's interesting how much Wilson Pickett sounds like Paul Rodgers (who wrote this song with Free), but then again it shows you how much of an influence he was on Paul. A great example of an artist and their influences coming full circle.

Well said. It is interesting how in a time gone by, the genres respected each other and covered and borrowed each others songs. But then again, I was not alive back then but it is possible the listening public was much more receptive to all types of music and interpretations.

did you know that diana ross and the supremes are the back ground singers on this song

    j.... m....

Maybe the Supremes- Diana Ross was long gone by 1971 when this came out... This is a Free song btw

Even though he was known as "Soul Brother # 2" right after James Brown (a designation he hated) - it can certainly be argued that what he might have lacked in dance steps....he made up in voice..... he had a better voice and range than Brown.

The 'Screamer' is at it again. He sang with so much passion and soul :-)))

Free wrote & performed it first, but they were trying to write it as a Wilson Pickett song, they must have done it right since Pickett then covered it.

A great song from the legendary Wilson Pickett! This was a featured track on "American Top 40 - The '70s" (from March 4th, 1972), & was the #32 song.

    R.I.P., Wilson Pickett.

  27. S.... ....

The man who SHOULD have been (crowned)
"Soul Brother Number 1." He was the ONLY male
soul singer, during Soul's heyday -- 1960s through
    1970s -- who could SCREAM........"ON KEY!!!"

  28. 3.... ....

This song embodies the cold blooded, raw power of Pickett's voice.

  29. T.... ....

    Certified soul power.
