For someone so similar to brian, mental illness, drugs, bad therapists, etc I tried to think about how sadly I had that in common with him (without the musical genius). I thought my god is there something we have in common that is good and similar? I finally realized we both had heart, and that is the common thread to a lot of mentally ill people....heart, Don't give up.

Such a beautiful song, and this performance is just so good. Only recently (last couple of years) have I learned more about the story of The Beach Boys, more specifically Brian. Such a heartbreaking yet eventually uplifting story. I must look at some of the books recommended by people on here :)

To Timber-Beast. How eloquent you`re message is.I thoroughly agree with you , and when I get on this rant I`m accused of being too negative but facts are facts and you are spot on. So what to do? Firstly, practice Love and Mercy as Brian said. Secondly , know that there is an abundance of kindness and compassion out there.( I work for Catholic Charities of Mpls./St. Paul) You should see the result of the public/private partnership between Business, Individuals and Govt. in the Twin Cities. It would lift you`re heart a mile high. Not all Business Men and Women and Governments ,(or individuals), are heartless. I see the proof every day. Most importantly keep hoping. It`s easy to get discouraged but the God of my understanding works in mysterious ways and I firmly believe this will all work out eventually. We`re just in for another wake up call.(We`ve forgotten our lessons we`ve been taught. Think W.W. two).This great country which has been given soooooo much has lost part of it`s soul but we can`t give up for our childrens sake. In the meantime lets listen to some good music.

I grew up in the '60's in So Cal, the Beach Boys were my musical fix,had to have a Pendleton shirt! I have learned to appreciate the intricate harmonies and the complexity of Brian's music, so much achieved through such suffering, but real Love and Mercy did bring him through. Blessings to you, Brian!

Using the gospel choir was really an inspired choice! In the original studio recording it sounded more Cathedral-like...but this really warms up the song.

God damn genius

Brian was treated so bad by his dad and his cousin mike. Not the fact he was struggling producing music to keep the band going. And having critics always hounding him. Not the fact dealing with depression and end up with drug addiction. And everyone thinks that the others had a big part in his creations of his music . they only had little part in it. With out brian theres no beach boys . he created the sound and the songs . brian has a big place in my heart . and the rest of the beach boys . Brian thank you for the most best Memories with all your songs .

I'm 14 and you've helped me see myself and my life in a totally different way.Music has always been my escape from the world, it is what i would call my safe house.Fear and anxiety run my life but your music gives me the strength to fight it.
