Willie Nelson - Stardust Lyrics

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night
dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
And now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
Of paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain
In my heart there always will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain

Though I dream in vain
In my heart there always will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain

[Repeat]

O cantor WILLIE NELSON é o que melhor interpretou com finura, sensibilidade e delicadeza o clássico musical STARDUST. Walter - Brasil.

That Hammond organ in the back ground is just perfect for an accompaniment to Willies voice and guitar.
Hoagy Carmichael wrote this beautiful tune, but willie brought something extra to it.

  12. C.... P....

how can anybody thumb down one of the GREATEST VERSIONS OF THIS SONG IN HISTORY I`ll never know.

Late 70's in Winter Park Colorado. Great memories.

  16. t.... b....

A lot of singers had sang this song since hoagy carmichael wrote this classic song. But willie has brought someting no singer has done before. Simple yet elegant like talking to someone about their heartache just you and the singer and how he felt. Wonderful willie

    t.... b....

Willie’s version is the only version that I think is even close to as good as Hoagy singing it himself. I could never get tired of this album.

  17. r.... ....

I first heard this song on a PBS fund raiser and became a lifetime fan of Willie and bought the record as fast as I could and played it many many times in my lifetime of 84 years..................no music like this today--so sad to have to say this.............

  18. J.... G....

I had a Special Talent, and I liked to hear willy's guitar in the background, and recall that he was a studio musician, before he went on his own Studio musicians are very special people to me, you can place a brand newsong in front ofthem, and they render it like they have been playing it for years, and years, thanks WillyI know the feeling when I could no longer play! I play by ear, and my hearing went out of tune, I do piano and organ, and when that happened, my left hand didn't know where to go, because i began playing the right notes, but hearing them as the note 6 notes south of where they should have been??? Love You Willy, so many years of comforting enjoyment you have provided me!

  19. J.... G....

I now see this living relation as a senior citizen and very close to the end +they still talk about their deceased partner and how he liked Willie. This makes me think of them I hope they get share this moment again in the Stardust. I love both very much. They both liked Willie's voice

Any singer could probably sing this song, but not like Willie Nelson does. You can feel the soul of this song through his voice. Love it.

One of the most recorded songs since it was written 90 years ago -- over 1500 versions. But it was Willie Nelson's version that was used to wake up the crew of Space Shuttle mission STS-97 on their second flight day. Concerning the genesis of the album for which this became the title track:

In 1978 Willie Nelson was living in Malibu and thinking about doing an album of standards. He asked his musician neighbor Booker T Jones if he could do an arrangement of MOONLIGHT IN VERMONT. Willie was so impressed with the result that he asked Booker T to arrange the entire album that became the “Stardust” LP. Recording of the album took ten days and while Columbia record executives were initially skeptical about sales – since Willie had acquired over many years, an “outlaw” persona in country music, the singer's instincts were spot on. By the end of that same year it had already sold one million albums. [The song's Wiki entry says]

Stardust was met with high sales and near-universal positive reviews. It peaked at number one in Billboard's Top Country Albums and number thirty in the Billboard 200.

In 1979, Nelson won a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for the song "Georgia on My Mind". Stardust was on the Billboard's Country Album charts for ten years—from its release until 1988.

It was originally certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in December 1978. In 1984, when it was certified triple platinum, Nelson was the highest-grossing concert act in the United States. In 2002, the album was certified quintuple platinum, and it was later inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

I played with your heart and in my youthfull ignorance I let you slip from my hands and now you are just a painfull memory.

  41. x.... ....

i’m just a 13 year old girl with an old soul. while i’m at home I’ll chill with this song playing on my record player while I read a book, and while i’m at school and stressed with schoolwork I’ll take my earbuds and listen to this. such a beautiful song.

  42. N.... ....

My mom, rest her lovely soul, used to play this record in 1978 and I taught myself guitar by playing along to this. It now haunts me with a nostalgic memory of my mom and that old acoustic. I still play guitar to this day, all self taught. It all started with Willie.

Perhaps the most beautiful lyrics ever set to paper, interpreted by the incomparable Willie Nelson.

  59. D.... L....

A reminiscence of love so moving by Mr. Ricky Bobby 4 years ago: "This song haunts me. I am taken back to a long lost love in Texas. A small misunderstanding cost me someone so very special. She truly was beautiful. 28 years have passed since then. I moved, married and had children who are grown now, but this song takes me back to a warm summer night, making love under the stars with my lost love. I left a part of my heart with her and never got it back. I think of her still. Deep inside I hope she still remembers me, and I hope it is with deep affection".

My Stardust melody is "Out of Left Field." I wanted him to sing it as a backup singer at our wedding with me on lead, as Percy was from Alabama, as am I. Well, he died before that happened and before we split, but I somehow didn't hear about it until after she left me. I broke the fuck down. I told her about it, as at that time, we were still friends... well. I can't recover from it. She literally is the other half of me.

  65. S.... G....

Stardust.....this music isn't made to listen to...its made to be felt. It's breathless

  74. k.... ....

The Record co did not agree with The Red Headed stranger they did not like Blue eyes crying in the rain as a single. But Willie had been given artistic control as part of his contract so they had to shut the fuck up and do their job , release it and give it serious promotional support . Surprise it was a huge success and made Willie Nelson a superstar. Then when Willie decided to follow it up with an album of jazz and pop standards again they did not agree and said it was a bad choice that would fail ???? Once again Home run for the great Willie Nelson

    What can I say...

  80. J.... T....

As a heavy metal addict (definitely not a CW fan) Stardust was played at the end of a movie (maybe Goodfellas?) and I turned off the tv to figure out the singer and to my shock it was Willie Nelson! Judging by the comments hereunder, I'd better have a listen to the whole album. Read Wikipedia for his next door neighbour's name who started, at least, producing these lovely old songs.

  81. A.... ....

I've worn out three CD's of this album; and, also have given it to many people, Like Tom Tee below, I don't think I could ever get tired of hearing this almost perfect album... by a living legend.

  89. C.... H....

Thumbs up to Hoagy Carmichael...and Willie.

  90. R.... J....

Listening to this song for some reason makes me think of Grumpier Old Men where Max sits on the front steps feeling all lonely and then it cuts to Sophia Loren's character standing on the dock looking at the stars. I would do the same thing....I used to live on a lake in northern Wisconsin and I would stand on the dock at night staring at the stars wondering if the girl I was meant to be with was looking at the stars the exact same time I was. Then it happened. I met the women who I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. Got married. Then 12 years later she packs up her things and left on March 10th. Even 6 months later, it still hurts like hell.

  91. F.... V....

A perfect recording! thanks guys !

Willie's rendition of this song proves that he is an extraordinary talent and that weed doesn't destroy the mind. He is a genius.
