Wilco - Via Chicago Lyrics
I dreamed about killing you again last night
And it felt alright to me
Dying on the banks of Embarcadero skies
I sat and watched you bleed
Buried you alive in a fireworks display
You cold, hot blood ran away from me
To the sea
I painted my name on the back of a leaf
And I watched it float away
The hope I had in a notebook full of white, dry pages
Was all I tried to save
But the wind blew me back via Chicago
In the middle of the night
And all without fight
I know I'll make it back
One of these days and turn on your TV
To watch a man with a face like mine
Being chased down a busy street
When he gets caught, I wont get up
And I wont go to sleep
I'm coming home, I'm coming home
Via Chicago
Where the cups are cracked and hooked
Above the sink
They make me think
Crumbling ladder tears don't fall
They shine down your shoulders
And crawling is screw faster lash
I blow it with kisses
I rest my head on a pillowy star
And a cracked door moon
That says I havent gone too far
I'm coming home
I'm coming home
Via Chicago
Searching for a home
Searching for a home
Searching for a home
Via Chicago
I'm coming home
I'm coming home

Crumbling ladder tears!
operating under the premises of (1) no one'll ever read this; (2) they'll never believe me even if they do (read it, that is ... is that a danging modifier?); and (3) who the fuck really cares anymore (can i double punctuate this?): this was the song i listened to on repeat on approach to ORD from my various and sundry travels/misfortunes after 9/11.
first "real" job outta college. (repping UIUC. hey, we suck everything but country club sports and accy and engineering ... and harvesting nobels -- for what it's worth, we're ranked #24 in something! suck my big ten, you plebeian conference brothers. hey, most OGAs don't actively recruit college campuses; we they do. then again, someone's gotta do us.)
much more detail than one should ever offer:
i once served these guys dinner in the basement of radio maria in champaign, illinois.
Love this song,love Wilco!
Sounds like Trailer Trash by Modest Mouse
otherway around...trailer trash sound like via Chicago
I don't see it..vocal melodies are so different. Chord progression is a simple one so you can't argue from that perspective.
Melody is completely different. I meant the chords and feel at the end of Trailer Trash.
@TheClevelandSteamer yeah..that is same..true
Possibly my favourite use of guitar feedback ever.
I was born in Chicago. Moved with my family as a kid. Listened to this song every day from the day it was released until this year when I finally came home.
Also a lie I presume?😂
I think Jeff Tweedy was on tour out in Europe and fell asleep watching an Alfred Hitchcock movie marathon.
I really, really like the mental image.
"...but the wind blew me back, via Chicago in the middle of the night..."
Reminds me of riding the Greyhound from Billings to NYC, via Chicago with a Wyoming angel, '03.
This song always makes me think of Dexter!
perfect match, haha
heartbreak song for past loves and chicago...i hope i get home soon too
They killed this one at Pitchfork last summer in Chicago. Such a treat to see them at such a small festival, especially since I'd seen individual band members at the festival over the years. My son and I met Jeff and his family many years earlier there. Lovely family, though Jeff's a bit of a weird bird when he's not on stage.
And yes I love Chicago.....
I love this songs lyrics...The timing on vocals blows me away....
any more wilco songs like this one?

I'll know I'm over him once I don't cry whenever I hear this song. Might take a while.
Feel better.
Are you over him now?
"A while" sometimes takes a long time - and then one day you realize you're crying for a totally different reason :)
I feel the same way about this song. Only about a girl.
I'm coming home. Flight via Chicago.
Wiwanirow for te tiws mind complete for fandango spanish y ali oli y ole
That's hilariously nonsensical gibberish, and that's coming from a Spanish guy.
Neil Young is proud.
"I rest my head on a pillowy star and a cracked door moon that says i haven't gone too far"
If OJ Simpson sang this song...I'd forgive him for killing his ex wife and the waiter.
Damn this is an amazing song. The way his voice breaks near the end is breathtaking.
Best murder song ever.
