Who, The - Summertime Blues Lyrics

I'm gonna raise a fuss, I'm gonna raise a holler
About a-workin' all summer just to try to earn a dollar
Well, I went to the boss, get a girl for a date
But the boss says, "no dice son, you gotta work late"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a-gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

Well, my mama and papa told me, "son, you gotta make some money"
If you want to use the car to go ridin' next Sunday
Well, I didn't go to work, I told the boss I was sick
"Well, you can't use the car 'cause you didn't work a lick"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

I'm gonna take two weeks, gonna have a fine vacation
I'm gonna take my problem to the United Nations
Well, I went to my congressman and he said, quote:
"I'd like to help you, son, but you're too young to vote"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

this footage is spliced with Sparks footage

  4. F.... F....

England had the best bands in the world!! So many great bands from UK!!! Music was real once and now musicians rely on computers . Fake like everything else.

  5. O.... D....

who the heck is playing the solo?

    O.... D....

    Everyone

  6. .... ....

Kieth moon your a bloody legend mate :)

  8. 6.... ....

50 years ago. Now its Dec 31 2019. The music WOW . Now 51 years ago. Straight To Heaven In 1967

  9. S.... C....

how many arms did Keith Moon have ?

  10. B.... M....

Keith lived a hundred life times in his short one. God I love that guy!

    B.... M....

I'm also a Keith nut, I was just watching their performance of Won't Get Fooled Again, from The Kids Are Alright from 1978 and it's so sad to see the condition Moon is in for that show, it's tough to watch him slow and overweight like that. He just didn't look like the same player.

    B.... M....

Robert Kess still solid tho and did the job

    B.... M....

@Alex Jordan Keith was like a meteor streaking across the sky in a giant ball of light and then burning out. We're all lucky we got to see it and we'll not see the likes of him again.

    B.... M....

Robert Kess I agree but how is that relevant to my comment

    B.... M....

@Alex Jordan Not sure, maybe it wasn't, just a thought. Truth is that his performance in 1978 didn't actually do the job. In fact the its well known that they had to go into the studio and fix many of the mistakes he made during the live performance in order to release the album and film. According to the Pete, he was so exhausted after just a handful of songs he did something backstage during that one off show that shocked the band. In order to have the energy to keep playing he laid out a line of cocaine and sniffed it up right in front of the band, something he'd never done before. The coke wore off and as one might imagine he floundered, began to slow down when that energy left him. And this wasn't a new thing, he was in bad shape for a few years prior, also according to Pete his mental state degraded as early as 1976. During the recording of the Tommy film soundtrack they were forced to hire other drummers for the job because Keith had too much trouble adapting to the new material and the alteration of the old. Again, according to Pete, as long as he could play the song by memory he was fine, but when this bit was longer, or something was added or changed he would become very frustrated and was unable to adapt. Understand, this kind of thing breaks my heart, I LOVE Keith Moon, but he drank and drugged his way into an early grave, and by the end he was a shell of his former self as a musician, and that's really sucks. But that is the truth as told by the band, who tried everything within their power to save him but couldn't. When he died they found 32 pills in his stomach, his death was not ruled a suicide, but one wonders how even Keith Moon could be that confused. Thankfully his legacy is sealed in granite, but had he lived there is a very good chance he would have either been sacked from the band, or they would have broken up because of his physical and mental decline. It's sad, but it's a lesson for sure. Sorry about the run on paragraph.

  11. C.... K....

This performance is FIFTY years old and I STILL think it's the BEST version of this song!

  20. R.... ....

A controlled explosion of a sonic blast if there ever was one..
Nobody could or will ever touch The Who's energy..

  21. R.... W....

Can’t believe they cut out before he tosses the guitar into the crowd. What ever what happened to the guitar?

  22. S.... ....

    Pete's not afraid of much

  23. M.... ....

"....by the time we went onstage, we’d been standing in the mud for hours," he told The New York Times. "Or laying in it, or doing whatever in it. It wasn’t actually that muddy backstage, but it wasn’t comfort, let’s put it that way. ... That’s all you could do. Waiting, waiting, waiting. We were young, and life is a lot easier when you’re young. I wouldn’t do that show now. Sod that. I’d walk away from it. I’m joking. No, I’d walk away and come back 10 hours later."

Daltrey said he has never listened to the Who's set to reassess it with years of detachment. But, after noting it was the band's worst gig, he still has vivid memories of what went wrong.
"It was a particularly hard one for me, because of the state of the equipment," he said. "It was all breaking down. I’m standing in the middle of the stage with enormous Marshall 100-watt amps blasting my ears behind me. [Keith] Moon on the drums in the middle. I could barely hear what I was singing."
Still, Daltrey has a few positive memories of the weekend, like noting Creedence Clearwater Revival were "fantastic," as well as the vibe coming from the audience.
"They were the stars," he explained. "That half a million people put up with that crap for three days. That coming together of that community was, I think, the key to getting America out of Vietnam. That’s when politicians actually started to take notice.""

  24. I.... B....

That was a very expensive guitarand he killed alot of . Gibson factory will be very pleased with him at 4 to 5.000 € a piece .

    I.... B....

Back then, they were the budget model.. not much point in talking about todays ridiculous prices

  25. I.... B....

Rock anthem of my 70'S . Fuck Tommy and that opera shit . Remember Live Aid , on the first chord of My Generation , the whole world went on black . They blew it all up . Legendary bands do things like that .Tis raw energy , soul in metal rock .

  26. M.... t....

Live perhaps... But not at this show....poorly sinked stock footage...go back to the rock you crawled out from. Really..

  27. E.... O....

God I fuckin hated workin all summer 🤬🤬🤬. But no money, no funny.

  28. G.... B....

If I can describe The Who in 4 Car parts then Moon is the driver Daltrey is the tires and Townshend is the honking horn and Entwistle is the engine.

  29. S.... R....

    They nailed it forever

  30. .... ....

    69年の頃が、一番好き!ストーンズも❗

  31. G.... G....

Too bad for Roger that he got no consultant for right behaviour in stage. He's a tough real guy, why he'd look and move like a bloody drag queen ?

  32. c.... z....

It always struck me how Roger Daltrey morphed into Robert Plant, or was it the other way around?

    c.... z....

The other way around, his long hair shirtless look comes from 1968

  33. D.... S....

    Birth of punk.

  34. G.... B....

This Is hands down the best version of Summertime Blues originally by Eddie Cochran yes even better than the Blue Cheer version.

  35. Y.... B....

    Too good!

  36. K.... N....

Back when concerts had no giant screens, laser light shows, backup dancers, lip-syncing, or even colored lights. Just a handful of incredibly talented musicians blowing everyone’s minds with their skill.

  37. D.... T....

I remember seeing this for the first time when I was about 10 and said to my mama "I wanna do THAT!" Dreams die hard.

Gr8 Song with Solo Added in the Studio.

  49. m.... o....

Little reason why The Who were considered the best live band ever, after this performance (and so many others). Actually, they were the BEST BAND EVER- regardless of stage or studio performance!!!!

  50. L.... B....

I’d rather hear the original sound.

  51. B.... B....

    Hi Watt!!! What a sound.

  52. C.... C....

still running this thru the ol' boom box. goddam loud. one of the greatest clips of film in history (sure, I'm biased). the SG being pounded against plywood is a bonus. and it doesn't look 50 yrs.old. re-mastering is great.
