Who, The - Glittering Girl Lyrics

She wasn't a fool
That glittering girl
She followed the rules
That shimmering pearl

Said the rules mama preaches
Go down when they break
The themes mama teaches
You just gotta shake

But she wasn't a fool
That slender love figure
She followed her rules
And made money bigger

She wasn't a fool
That shining young woman
She followed her rules
She's crying for no man

Said the rules mama preaches
Go down when they're broken
She explodes into peaches
And cries when I've spoken

She wasn't a fool
That Goddess of Hell
There are no mother's rules
She makes them herself

And I was down upon my knees
To beg her surrender up to me

Something inside her
Told her she shouldn't
Tried and alight her
But the girl wouldn't

She wasn't a fool
But love flowed from her face
She's not scared of me
She's afraid of disgrace

She wasn't a fool
That female for our world
She followed her rules
That glittering girl
That glittering girl
That glittering girl
That glittering girl

    Check out that drummer!

What a phenomenal band the Who was in the 1960's...if I had to choose among Stones, Beatles or the Who for that decade's best group, the Who would win by miles & miles!

    D.... R....

    Well that's marvelous! And nuts.

    D.... R....

@ActCut00021719 aw, you beat me to that...

    D.... R....

Beatles, Who, Stones, Kinks, Zombies, Pretty Things... can't beat that first wave

    D.... R....

The who live at leeds (deluxe version as tommy is captured live it is a gem.) and quadrophenia, listen to those albums and the answer is clear.

@Jkaps artist and gamer Agree, factoring in the live stuff puts the Who over the top. Best live rock band ever (and only the Beatles and maybe Zeppelin have a better studio discography imho)

Love! Such a campish late 1960's anthem!

This is aa demo, really. Mistakes a plenty. I love this song. No Daltry. Sounds like a D.I.'d guitar. Not much power. i like the little classical hammerons.

    t.... ....

sounds like a demo to me. That's townshend doing all the singing, possibly him playing bass as well. There some footage of them working it out with the rest of the band - wonder why it never made it to a proper recording.

    t.... ....

tim dawtry Townshend sang on multiple Who songs. It doesn't sound like his bass playing to me, and that's certainly not his drumming.

    t.... ....

yeah - but he's doing the backing vocals as well - by multi tracking. that and the 'thin' sound suggest this is a demo.

    t.... ....

Or it wasn't mastered. Besides, early Who records tended to sound thin. And Townshend has done all of his harmonies before on album cuts.

Townshend was only doing very rough acoustic demos at this time. This is far too ornate to be a mid 60's demo. It's likely a song that had the basic track done, Townshend added his own harmonies, and then it was shelved until they put it on the deluxe edition as a bonus track.

    t.... ....

I think it's Entwistle singing at 0:43. He had a distinct way of pronouncing words like girl and rules.

Classic Moon! Check him out during the quiet bit. The Coke jingle rocks hilariously :)

many of them were , that's the thing with the British bands of the sixties, the Kinks too were like that, very quirky ..
