Does anyone know what tuning Jack uses on this song? It's obviously an open tuning and I think it may be open D on the album version but this sounds different. I actually like the non live one better.

@Augustin Thanks. I'll give it a shot. He sometimes uses an open tuning with one or two strings tuned a different way, so he's kind of hard to follow.

This song is a Son House blues song that Jack took to level 12. His version is very much like Page's solo for "In My Time of Dying" which was a traditional blues song from Blind Willie Johnson that Page took to level 12. He's using Zeppelin's formula here and doing it brilliantly.

Very fortunate that I got to see this band doing the best show in the world.
From start to finish Jack tore those songs up and I still remember him actually running onto the stage, throwing himself over that guitar to start the first song which was Dead leaves and the dirty ground. October 27th 2005, in Stockholm. Good memories.

A tsunami could have hit the building they were playing in and neither Jack or Meg would have noticed till that song was over. Way lost in their music,totally killed their original studio version- live! I probably play this video twice a day. The energy, the talent, and the chemistry between those two was just awesome. With all that amazing talent we all know what Jack is doing like forever but I wonder what Meg is doing. That woman is seriously sexy.

Also, garbage pickup day is on Wednesday, so the last century of guitar playing you just shredded in one blues cover should be in the golden recycle bin, for the youth that have never heard the song Death Letter, or heard the original versions, this is a quantum leap.
