Ween - Help Me Scrape The Mucus Off My Brain Lyrics

I guess it's somethin' in mu brain
I need whiskey, ease the pain
But it's early in the mornin'
And I'm feelin' bad again

But if you ever loved me
You'll go easy on me now
Fix me up a cup of coffee
And in a while I'll come around

I think I spent the dog-food money
But he'll love me just the same
If you really love me baby
Help me scrape the mucus off my brain

[solos]

It's a shame when morning hurts
I've seen bad and I've seen worse
It's the nature of my bein'
I took some money from your purse

N'that Frenchman loves to party
And I know he's not to blame
But the way you're lookin' at me baby
I just can't help but feel the shame

I think I spent the dog-food money
But he'll love me just the same
And if you really love me baby
Help me scrape the mucus off my brain

And if you really love me baby
Help me scrape the mucus off my brain

  1. J.... H....

  2. M.... A....

This album kicks David Allen Coe's Black Album's ass.

  3. L.... *....

    Crying to this rn

  4. A.... G....

This is my favourite Ween song (which is saying a lot because they're my favourite band), possibly my most favourite song of all time. Definitely within the top ten at least... for me, it paints a picture of sadness, unreliability and frustration, but with out making the singer in the song come off like he's entitled... it seems to project real sentiments that indicate the narrator is not the worst person in the world; surely at rough point, but still being able to rationalize how they got there.

  5. T.... S....

Am I the only person in 2019 playing this over and over? “I stole money out your purse”. By far Fav line...

  6. g.... ....

    why are there dislikes?

  7. J.... ....

I want to know the name of every old Nashville session guy that blessed this fucking thing.

  8. j.... ....

I dropped out of school just to listen to Ween. Figured it was a better education. And i was right!

  9. L.... P....

    K.... A....

    Agreed!

    K.... A....

Same wish people would still play it. Let's get it going!!!!

    K.... A....

I remember being on the TMBJ server in JK2 and ShroomDuck showing a few of us around the map. Good times. 2004 probably? Shit.

  21. c.... a....

    I like Ween

  22. R.... H....

    Funhaus brought me here......

    R.... H....

    wait what how

  23. S.... M....

Agreed that "think I spent the dog food money" is a FRIGGEN great line - I think of this song when I have a hangover - "I took some money from your purse"

  24. S.... M....

this is not country music... it's just Ween. Hail Boognish

    S.... M....

    Steve Meyer

    S.... M....

    yeah its country western.

  25. C.... C....

    C.... C....

    legendary map

  26. c.... ....

I dedicate this song to my wife. Only she knows why.... :D

    c.... ....

    Why ? :0

  27. M.... H....

I paid over $25 for the "Saddle Brown Vinyl" copy of this album, mostly so I could hear this on a record player. It's "Highway 40 Blues", by Ricky Skaggs, but with cool, contemporary lyrics. Five stars. The musicians that put this together are amazing. I've had this album for a week, my record player since my birthday, on Valentine's Day, and I still haven't listened to it.

  28. T.... ....

the most goldenest on the album, this one

  29. C.... W....

Definitely my favorite off 12GCG. It speaks to depression and addiction so succinctly.

  30. U.... C....

After thirty years i still love these guys.

    U.... C....

Damn man - 30 years?! You must have been following Ween since the wayyyyyyyy early days!

  31. W.... ....

    My favorite off this album.

  32. J.... G....

some of the greatest musical talent in the industry. with a sense of humor. ween rules.

  33. J.... M....

Who's with me? "I think I'll spend the dog food money" is the greatest line ever written in country music - hands down.

    J.... M....

Think I *spent the dog food money*

    J.... M....

And then the dirtball reveals that he stole money from the nice lady's purse; saying, essentially, "what, you're less forgiving than a dog?"

    J.... M....

Love and miss u john mark lol that's crazy ur comment is at the top of this song

    J.... M....

John Mark and he will love me just the same gotta add that but you can’t beat “ it’s a shame when morning hurts I’ve seen bad and worse it’s the nature of my bein I took some money from your purse” one of the greatest lines of all time hands down IMHO (am I the only guy who would say IM-HHHOOOOOOE!!!! For in my honest opinion IRL?)

    J.... M....

Jake Hawley exactly this is what I said I love when I comment something then see other people who have already said what I did haha

  34. i.... ....

This sounds like something that would be played on the radio stations if you have the Wild Wasteland perk in Fallout: New Vegas.

    i.... ....

The fuck is Fallout: New Vegas? All I know is Fallout III.V (the failed abortion)

    i.... ....

inlazlowetrust if only this replaced Johnny Guitar...

    i.... ....

I listened to this for the first time while play New Vegas for the first time also.

    i.... ....

That's really specific and also true

  35. M.... C....

also similar to Dale Watson's "Whiskey or God"

  36. S.... K....

just heard whoever these fidlar losers are version of this song. now I need you to help me scrape the puke out off my teeth

    S.... K....

    relax old man

    S.... K....

+Standard King Their first album was alright, their 2nd they went way overboard with the snotnosed ultimately bitchy wussy sound. Big disappointment last year, that album made me hate that band.

    S.... K....

+kingkrimsonkrazed It's because its not as fast as their first albums. Too was slower and pretty much just dealt with Zacs problems with growing up. Too is literally a "I'm growing up" album

    S.... K....

Also, Zac sobered up, and it's hard to make the same sound when youre off.

    S.... K....

kingkrimsonkrazed mate zacs pregnant gf died of an overdose which forced him into rehab like I'm sorry his writing is different as hell now but that would happen after something like that so chill out.

  37. b.... ....

I was one year fresh out of high school when this album came out, thanks for the many years of joy in school and out Gene and Dean you guys rule.

  38. S.... K....

dammit I just spilled whiskey on my pants. fuk it, I got whiskey to easy the pain

  39. E.... S....

    Me. Right now.

  40. M.... H....

This song is basically "Highway 40 Blues" by Ricky Scaggs. Long live the Boognish.

  41. C.... C....

Good song for a hangover of this magnitude...

  42. T.... C....

Best song on the album, simply great.

    T.... C....

This album has many gems most notably Mr.Richard Smoker.

    T.... C....

    >not even mentioning i dont wanna leave you on the farm

    T.... C....

    Or powder blue

    T.... C....

    You Were The Fool

    T.... C....

But what about Fluffy? Furry buddy.

  43. C.... ....

Grandma got run over by a reindeer.

  44. L.... T....

Sounds like someone made the lyrics/singing using an electronic vocabulary. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, it's just kinda "off".

I'm just gonna stick with FIDLAR's cover.

    L.... T....

+Derp Boosic Why do you have to shit on people for liking country? Fuck you, dude

    L.... T....

FIDLAR is awesome, and their cover is pretty good. But Ween is GOD

    L.... T....

    shit taste brew

    L.... T....

Damn son open your heart to the fucken Boog!!

    L.... T....

What’s a fidlar and why is there is shitty tattoo on my ankle that says fidlar?

  45. 4.... ....

Hey, "rothkappchen" - MY comment's ass is not mean, you silly dumbell poopie-head! It's like the most insightful comment around!

  46. B.... ....

    IT'S HIGHWAY 40 BLUES!

    B.... ....

    Ricky Scaggs!

  47. J.... S....

    Bit much but lyrics great

  48. M.... M....

Merle Haggard -- If We Make It Through December

    M.... M....

    THANK YOU

I WAS RACKING MY BRAIN IT WAS KILLING ME

  49. b.... ....

When I listen to this song, I see my self walking along railroad tracks travelling across the country. This is what I think I'm going to do. I suck at paying the bills and managing finances. I hate worrying about how much debt I'm in. See ya-Adem

  50. R.... W....

Of course I know Mr. Prine. Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse) like Vic Chesnutt where true modern country music and music in general genuises. That cold march day when Mark shot himself I will never forget. Let's hope Aaron Freeman can get himself healthy and we will have some more great Ween albums.

  51. R.... W....

Thanks for turning me to those artists. Seems there staying true to the country formula more than other said artists. I'll have to watch Heart worn highway soon. Have you hear Giant Sand? His songs Shiver and Classico which features Vic Chesnutt are two of my favorites. Vic is another unsung hero like Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse who both commited suicide a few years back.Mark IMO was like the last Hank Williams. Genius! Theres plenty to repect about modern country. It's almost becoming trendy.

  52. R.... W....

  53. R.... W....

I totally agree. The way I look at it is the music your descibing is pop country, but theres still real american roots music being made that is more like real country.Or deeply inspired by country. I too love bluegrass, and ping pong balls.

  54. R.... B....

I quite like bluegrass and earlier country before it become an offshoot of regular shit pop music only this time sang with a country twang. It's far from American music, it's a bunch of poppy crap a bunch of studio executives cooked up to pander to country fried rubes to stupid to realize they're being pandered to. All so they keep buying albums to play in their trucks with Git-R-Done/Nascar/Dale Earnhart Stickers on them. All new mainstream "American" music is all marketing plane and simple.

  55. d.... ....

    ... What?

  56. S.... M....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! A ping pong ball in mayonaise. Yeah, that's pretty fucking useless, isn't it?
Oh, I laughed my ass off what a funny comment.

  57. r.... ....

People who post here that they hate country music are only proudly displaying their ignorance of the music and its history. Just like anything else, it requires some searching and digging for the good stuff. It's a HUGE genre that runs much deeper than that Nashville drek you hear on the radio.

Also, if call yourself a musician or music lover, and then claim to "hate" any kind of music, please do the world a favor and give your instrument and equipment to a real musician. Thanks.

  58. b.... ....

Like dropping a ping pong ball in mayonnaise?

That seems rather neutral to me.

  59. f.... r....

i am living proof!!! New-born Country fan 100%!!!

  60. S.... ....

only ween can make listen to country music.

  61. D.... T....

are familiar with John Prine? I know you gotta love the burrito brothers, Grahm Parsons was amazing. You're right Sparklehorse was pretty awesome as well....one more brilliant artist that died WAY before his time.

  62. D.... T....

check out truck stop darlin, you'd appreciate them. Townes Van Zant is the king....period. Have you seen "Heart worn hi-way"? The gourds do an awesome cover of pancho and lefty. The pull-tab boys were awesome, uncle tupelo, wilco all obvious picks. you should also check out a guy named pete krebs, his solo stuff with and without Gossamer Wings is simply amazing! He's gotten into a kind of country swing thing as of late though. If you can, look up pete krebs " take me away".....you wont regret it

  63. R.... W....

Stuff like Townes Van Zandt, Willie, Steve Earle and more recent artists like Sparklehorse, Howe Gelb , Greg Brown,Calexico and tons of others show that country music is alive and well, and doesn't suck.

  64. R.... W....

Sort of. No , i'm saying hating country music(real country) is like dropping a ping pong ball in Mayonaisse. It doesn't make a sound and it's pointless ,and elaboratelly ridiculous. Basically i guess my answer would be ,yes.

  65. D.... T....

i know this is a dumb question but could you please explain "dropping a ping pomg ball into mayo" for me? i understand your statement completely but the analogy at the end is a little confusing, never heard that one before.........in essence you're saying hating country will get you no where?

  66. y.... ....

i love how these guys are making up original rock and then they also decide to get into country as well <3

  67. T.... ....

i been on the fence with country for so long. still cant stand most of it but i am loving this stuff ween did.

  68. R.... W....

I am in my mid thirties and been seeing ween shows since the 90's so I know irony more than you can know . I'm sorry you don't relate to my mayonaise analogy . Go cry about it else where .

  69. R.... W....

    It doesn't make a sound and it's pointless .

  70. D.... T....

im totally with you this on this, wholeheartedly ! but what does a ping pong ball in mayonnaise have to do with anything?

  71. R.... ....

Melody is Similiar to Highway 40 Blues by Ricky Skaggs

  72. T.... D....

    Ween is toooooooooooo good :)

  73. R.... W....

I agrreee !! They will plant nasty seeds-ideas that attempt to prohibit . From some little office in Northern california a group of outcasted geniuses are concocting the next big thing or trend . Memes . Hating country music is such a cultural manufactured artifact . I believe this to be the least sinister possible scenario . Ultimately though I feel its like dropping a ping pong ball in mayonaise .

  74. D.... H....

Think I spent the dog food money...

  75. k.... ....

It converted me, and now I listen to Hank Sr., Hank III, (not a fan of Jr.), Roger Allen Wade, Johnny Cash (also part of converting me), etc. But you will NEVER catch me listening to the garbage on the radio.

  76. m.... ....

    JEDI ACADEMY!

  77. J.... R....

But it's early in the mornin

  78. S.... ....

When country neophytes turn on the radio and here generic Nashville dreck or "beach country," it's no wonder they're turned off. Now that I think about it, Ween's gonzo country album probably converts more fence-sitters than the so-called real stuff. :p

  79. R.... W....

Poor kids . Thinking country sucks . Hating american music is like dropping a ping pong ball in mayonaise .

  80. f.... ....

I love a country album with a parental advisory sticker

  81. C.... ....

Story of my life, minus the frenchman, I need help

  82. a.... ....

12 Golden Country Greats refers to the number of Nashville legends who were session players for this album...which is not a "joke". Just because a concept is abstract, that does not define it as a joke. WEEN are far and beyond, friends. Far and beyond...

  83. J.... R....

Falling in love and buying bulk food for the pups...

  84. k.... ....

I think I spent the dog food money.

  85. m.... ....

i vote for giant speekers in the streets playin ween 24/7 365day/year

  86. I.... ....

@chingon333 I'm on the brink of incest!

  87. P.... P....

this music makes me want to marry my sister.

  88. J.... L....

This track name sounds like a heavy metal song name!

  89. r.... ....

@wefkr Probably a year. Almost everyone has songs they like immediately, but Ween are so eclectic people struggle to see the coherence, and brilliance, between songs and albums. I think it starts to click when people become familiar with Gene and Dean individually and see what connects all the dots together. Until people get that there may as well be a 100 different singers. Put on a song they've never heard and they won't even realize it's Ween.

  90. C.... B....

@FloydTheBarbara Yeah the radio stations on that game get annoying really fast. I just listen to the sounds of the wasteland, and other music ofc

  91. s.... ....

@IamLiterallyRetarded but you know he's not to blame

  92. I.... ....

    That Frenchman loves to party.

  93. t.... ....

@DamonIcke look at it this way, they have a big fanbase, but if they had hit it big they wouldve gone mainstream and bin as shitty as nickelback and soulja boy...-_- i cant believe i just typed that asshats name....so its better of they didnt go big.

  94. l.... ....

1 person spent the dog food money.

  95. B.... B....

@Taintmash yes, this retro-country fan loves it. don't know about the crossover crowd, though.

  96. M.... ....

    @roas2 Haha Yessir.

  97. P.... W....

@DamonIcke let's just leave it that way. crowd sizes are just fine how they are. it would be a little uncomfortable to see a good charlotte t shirt in the crowd.
