No, this particular song isn't sad, but you can't just reduce Ween to just Push the Little Daisies. They have such an amazing, expansive catalog with tons of great music. Some of their songs are very sad. Just because they also include humor, and sometimes dark humor doesn't mean they can't do a sad song right.

+JennyOween I definitely wouldn't argue with that. Ween is the only band that can make each and every album uniquely different. The Mollusk album is my personal favorite.

they wrote "Birthday Boy" and "Alone" before Psh the little daises. Also "Demon Sweat" and "Laura." Those songs exhibit genuine turmoil and were written at an early age for them. Definitely underrated, emotional Ween songs. Let's not go on the topic of their later songs like "I Don't Want It" or "I'll Miss You" which are some of the most real songs ever written imo.

Do people not understand that the song isn't intended to be sad. It has a sad tone to mislead the audience from the anticlimactic and undramatic ending where they just end back up on the porch annoyed with the cop.

Agreed. It is a scathing commentary about excessively sappy, over the top, cliched country songs.

And yet, when the guitar solo chimes in, I can't help but feel those pangs of sadness, haha.

That is exactly right. It is the mingling of absurdist parody with genuinely emotionally evocative elements that work so well in this song, and it's an approach that Ween really perfected in their later albums like this one and White Pepper.
