Ween - Cold Blows The Wind Lyrics
Cold blows the wind over my true love
cold blows the drops of rain
I never had but one true love
and in Camville he was slain
as any young girl may
i'll sit and weep down by his grave
for twelve month and one day
But when twelve months were come and gone
this young man he arose
what makes you weep down by my grave
I can't take my repose
One kiss, one kiss of your lily white lips
one kiss, one kiss of your lily white lips
and return back to your grave
My lips they are as cold as my clay
my breath is heavy and strong
if thou was to kiss my lily white lips
thy days would not be long
Oh don't you remember the garden grove
where we used to walk
pluck the finest flower of them all
twill wither to a stalk
Go fetch me a Nun from the dungeon deep
and water from a stone
and white milk from a maiden's breast
that babe ere never known
Go dig me a grave both long, wide and deep
as quickly as you may
I'll lie down in it and take one sleep
for twelve month and one day
Cold blows the wind over my true love
cold blows the drops of rain
I never had but one true love
and in Camville he was slain
I'll do as much for my true love
as any young girl may
i'll sit and weep down by his grave
for twelve month and one day

Let's hope he isn't waving his dick in this wind.
This song and "Waving My Dick In The Wind" are on the same album, two tracks apart. Wrap your dome around that fer a second.
Easy, as she blows.
The rhythm reminds me a bit of the house of the rising sun
Or maybe In The Pines
Pluck the finest flower of them all, twill wither to a stone.
Go fetch me a nut from a dungeon deep,
And water from a stone,
And white milk from a maiden's breast that baby never known.
Go dig me a grave both long wide and deep, as quickly as you may.
I'll lay down in it and take one sleep,
for 12 month and 1 day.
Come Sit and weep down by my grave,
Such Melancholy beauty... XXX

To all of you commenting on the genius of ween go listen to the inspiration for this song, the unquiet grave by the Dubliners. I enjoy ween but gotta respect where they got this song. I know the Dubliners didn’t write the song but it gives you an idea of where it came from.
I remember the garden grove, where we used to walk.
It sounds cool!
Cold blows the wind over my true love
Cold blows the drops of rain
I never had but one true love
And in Camville he was slain
I'll do as much for my true love as any young girl may
I'll sit and weep down by his grave for twelve month and one day

Beautiful and haunting
One of those rare songs that touch the soul...pure masterpiece.
Little bit of pink floyd, little bit of the beatles, little bit of grateful dead, but most importantly, it's ween!
superb <3
I catch a good buzz at night and listen to this endlessly
Cold blows the wind over my true love
Cold blows the drops of rain
I never had but one true love

what would be the "term" for this type of composition? the word dirge comes to mind, but at the same time I'm sure that's not it.
SwampyMusic I think it is a shanty. With dirge vibes

Likewise, nothing like a meme exposing beautiful music.
These guys who made that spongebob anime ending are really good.
This sounds like something that might be played in the end credits of an episode of Game of Thrones. The title really works with the theme of the show.

You guys may find this strange but this reminds me of meideval ballads
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unquiet_Grave
That's quite interesting thanks
It's a strange song lol
GIVE IT UP FOR WEEN GETTING BACK TOGETHER!!!!
let's hope they decide to make a new album or maybe an official Shinola vol. 2?
Daddy Zamasu Sadly I don't think they will :(
This is a song about a zombie
Hey girl, how's things going|?
Anyone else hear the similarity to the melody of Greensleaves?
Jake Whitehead damn, never made that connection. I do see what your saying.
they're both medieval ballads
This is my new favorite Ween song. I've heard it a hundred times but now I'm really hearing it. Wow.
GauntLife welcome friend, now go. go forth and open the doors. meanwhile say hello to the Beatles. and on your way out give the dead a call.
Choice cut,pal!
GauntLife tried and true is probably my favorite
That’s how I feel with every Ween song eventually. It’s like being blind to the song until you’re deep enough in the Ween hole to actually enjoy it. Ween grows on ya in such an interesting way. If you listen to one song you’re already infected and eventually you’ll love it
This happened to me, today.
When I want to make sure that the world is still full of nutcases, I read YouTube comments and I am assured they are still plentiful in supply. Nice song, btw.
i'll chime in here. we rented a beach house in the winter on a barrier island off of NJ. we always wanted to make a record on this island when it was deserted of people, and it was really deserted, empty--completely, nowhere to go and eat even. we set up our equipment on the very south end of the island and found ourselves there alone the first night. aaron (gene ween) had a songbook of old folk songs and we are huge fans of fairport convention and steeleye span--that kind of music. we took these lyrics out of the book and put our own chords over it and it is kind of the song that defined the original music we wrote after it for that album. it had to go on the record because it set the table for everything that came after it. i've never heard a version of it or read the poem and i probably never will. it's one of my fave ween tunes though and one of aaron's best vocal performances. my opinion.
So cool brother, thanks
Amazing music
This song is one of the greatest ever.
Thanks for a fresh take on the folk canon from a fellow Fairport and Steeleye fan.
BTFishing the word of the MIGHTY Deaner!!!
Jacob flumer I love you.
Watched Episode 1, season 2 of Penny Dreadful and instantly knew she was singing a ween song...but found out it is very only song.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unquiet_Grave
"Go dig me a grave, both long, wide and deep, as quickly as you may." That line always had creepy implications to me.
Go fetch me a nut
this is a beautiful song but sad too
I don't really agree with all these guys stating this is a cover. You can't really "cover" a 600 years old folk song. Because nobody even knows who has originally written it. It's a "version" of that old folk song but the lyrics + the meaning are slightly modified so we should really give ween's interpretation some respect here! You wouldn't call Hendrix' rendition of the Star Spangled Banner a cover either, would you? Or Horowitz playing some Chopin?!
BetaErpel deaner shreds Hendrix under the table . Don't even bring that guy up thanks
BetaErpel Actually, some lyrics of this song are actually changed, added, and some are even removed. It's a good interpretation.
@silver Deaner is absolutely awesome on guitar.
but he doesn't shred jimi under the table^
still they play in the same league. gotta say that.
It is an english folk ballad originally entitled "Unquiet Grave." Hundreds of years old. It is documented in the Child Ballads collection. A.L Lloyd and Ewan McColl both sang it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyqBA_Qr3qs
these lyrics give me goosebumbs, simply brilliant
can you tell me where I can hear the original?
The original is called The Unquiet Grave. Search it out on youtube. There are many versions.
The original was over 400 years ago
@A Lonely Weeaboo The original is from the 1400's and was found by Francis James Child in 1868
that sucks...
best love story ever :,)
No one knows it's called The Unquiet Grave (copied from wikipedia): "The Unquiet Grave" is an English folk song in which a young man mourns his dead love too hard and prevents her from obtaining peace. It is thought to date from 1400 and was collected in 1868 by Francis James Child, as Child Ballad number 78.
Who did the original?
DarkX64 it's a folk song so no one really knows
One kiss. One kiss of her lily white lips.
I first read this poem as "The Unquiet Grave" back in grade school before I had ever heard of Ween (I am 30, btw), and I nearly wet myself with excitement when I listened to this for the first time.
This is most definitely the best version of this poem, and that means a lot considering this has been my favorite poem long before I had ever heard of Ween.
no no, you smoked that nug just before you looked at the pic!
Thought about a divorce yet?
Claymore - The Unquiet Grave
best non ween version i have found as of yet, type it in search..
whats the name of it ?
no it's not... It's a traditional folk song dating back to the 15th or 16th century.
this band i loVe very MuchO
yes it is a cover of a song called "The Unquiet Grave" by Luke Kelly
Almost, the song was originally made in 15th century England.
Is it me or does that looks like a nug of weed?
mansondevil33 if your talking about "the molusk" cover art, that must be some heat stressed pure sativa shwag on its last generational leg after being cloned too many times. basically your smoking the inbred child of generations of inbreeding and stressing.
I kinda think it looks like a vagina. Hmmn
Amen primus...thanks for the link
No, that's correct.
I tried to have Mr Richard smoker, now I live with a young latino man named Pedro.
tried to make this my wedding song, wife wouldn't have it
I will never forget reading this poem in 9th grade English class, and then being completely floored when I first heard this song for the first time in 11th grade. Btw, I'm 29 now.
@mwells219 you can't trust wikipedia. it's usually right, but it's still user submitted
@itsthestevo It's a tradtitional folk song, AKA The Unquiet grave. It's about a man mourning his lover to such an extent that her soul can't rest.
it was a cover of who? been another favorite of mine for about ten years
"awesome. and surprisingly underrated" - this is what I'm thinking at least about the last 500 vids I saw. So many good bands and singers and noone knows them :S F!"§$%& Mainstream Pop...
Is this a cover? I dont know alot about Ween.
WOW really nice
I was really surprised at this track. Y'know, really quite impressive that Ween could pull off something so sad and somber. They can do anything they goddamn want...
2nd comment nice love ween
