Ween Captain Comments
one of the few gene lead guitar solos. it sounds like he's plugged right into the amp in his living room.
This song is about taking your dog to the vets.
Bring me to harbor
This used to be my least favorite Ween song, but listening to it on headphones and reading these youtube comments has made me appreciate it. Thats the real best way to experience Captain.
No doubt their Ship of Fools... after they realized they wasn't going Home!! :D
This song is for the desperate nights seeking to go back to where we once where.
1:36 the stripe bass is so nasty.
The storm was heavy and the ships almost sank. The crew begged to turn back for Spain. Columbus simply said "No"
One of my favorites on the album along with Alcan Road
Play at 1.5 speed. You are welcome
Naw, it sounds better on normal speed or slower. Speedin up takes the vibe away in my opinion
Fuck off
Imagine listening to this on a plane...
too bad they don't have every song be this good.....they usually only have about 3 good songs on each album they do...
I love ween but I just don't like some of the choices they make....like in voodoo lady....why not just have a really nice distorted guitar solo? instead they just make a bunch of noise off the guitar feedback and it makes me not want to finish the song....
cause they do whatever the fuck they want lol. creative freedom
I damn near like all the songs on their albums , just cause you dont like certain songs doesnt mean they are throw aways or filler
Just stop talking dude. White pepper was amazing the whole way thru. You have shit taste in music.
Ryan Gordon 👍🏼
my god this is so unsettling when you really listen
This could be in a David Lynch film.
So true. Maybe Twin Peaks season 4?
I had a dream that they played this live and I met Gene.
deh You must have dreamt my memories.. I drove many miles and arrived mid-set in Indiana I think and this is the 1st song I heard them play. It was wonderful. After their set we got backstage and I said hi to Gene for a brief moment. I was waaaayyyy to stoned to engage in conversation and I think he was to tired to and went to go have a seat and rest. Those guys are awesome, down to earth folks that really do work their assets off to produce their art and live their lives on their terms. God Bless Ween!
i went to burlington and they played this live, i dreamt my future, kinda. i didnt meet papa
papa gener
papi gener
Really brown
Hey There Fancypants -> Captain -> Chocolate Town is probably my favorite three song swing. Such an emotional ride.
A lot of people say "Pink Floyd", but for my money, this is 100-proof Frank Zappa. The sprawling, spacey arrangement, the cocked-wah guitar at 1:40, the slowed-down vocals-- this could easily be a claymation jam from "200 Motels".
Zappa wasn't working with Bickford yet at that point, I think you may be thinking of "Baby Snakes"...
It sounds like Zappa playing over a mid-early Floyd song in the vein of "The Crying Song" or "Burning Bridges".
Oddly enough both Mickey and Aaron have stated they hate Zappa in interview s. There's definitely a giant overlap in fans though.
Zappa's stuff is kind of the opposite of Ween's. Zappa is hyper-technical and composed, all about realizing Frank's vision of the song, while Ween is all about a group playing together.
doesnt sound like zappa to me. more floyd.
I feel weird, but in a good way, when I listen to Ween.
Cruising around with the roof open on a summer night with this playing is one of the most serene experiences
Agreed. People are creeped out by the song I think it's beautiful.
its got a haunting, kind of ethereal sound to it
here is what i have figured out for the other lyrics that start at the time-mark of roughly 2:30, using Nero Wave Editor to raise the pitch of that very low voice. Thanks to 72telecaster at songmeanings.com whose earlier posted interpretation was helpful in correcting my first solo interpretation.
blink at the life blood
swath me in mesh
The water, its cold
like a meal at death's gate
i'm the bringer of the seige
a girl and a pig who awaits its master
a living monument to a foreign soldier
let me lie awake now
and condense this thought into matter
bring me to harbor (2x)
+FreezerBurn1704. I reviewed it again and it's very hard to tell, but I think it make 'fallen' makes more sense - i.e. wherever there are monuments to soldiers, they are dedicated to the domestic fallen, not the foreign invaders - lol. so thank you!
one improvement - with thanks to @FreezerBurn1704 - replace 'foreign soldier' to 'fallen soldier'.
+MrKingswebe I thought it was "A gaunt pig"
Loved this song for years, but I had no idea what he was saying during that part. I have a new appreciation for it now. The lyrics add a lot of creepiness to an already unsettling song.
Thank you, this song means so much more now
Am I the only one who thinks of ALIEN when this song plays. Just like this is Ripley's plight
@MrTHXUs It makes me think of the dream sequence from Rosemary's Baby. Pure nightmare fuel.
WHO THE FUCK ARE THE 3 PEOPLE THAT DIDNT LIKE THIS SONG? HOW CAN YOU NOT?!!???
Thank you ever so much for transcribing that. I have wondered incessantly about what was said there. :)
I had Quebec playing in my car a few weeks ago, this song came on right as I got blocked by a stopped train on the tracks and had to go the other way to get home.
Something magical happened that night.
That shit happens once in a hundred years
Your comment just gave me shivers
Turn around and take yerself home, matey
Blink at the knifelight
The water, it's cold like when I kneel at Death's Gate
I am the bringer of the siege
Like a ground pig who awaits it's master
I live in a monument to a fallen soldier
Let me lie awake and condense this fog
Bring me to harbor
Bring me to harbor
Best 4 minute nap I've ever had after work.
i feel like im in the cover of the AWOLNATION cd Megalithic Symphony`
I did to much....sinking......sinking......sinking.....OWW , TAKE THAT DAMN NEEDLE OUT OF MY CHEST! True story.
Good comment
I was going to sleep. Then... That voice
Does anyone have the OTHER lyrics? Not just "Captain, turn around & take me home"? Thanks.
"The water is cold" is one of the lines.
@ZeppelinFloydRoses Name of the song, not the band.
@JvivaBlaBraza
I smell what you're stepping in. Also reminds me a bit of Planet Caravan.
Although it's completely different, it kinda reminds me of Maggot Brain by Funkadelic..
Amazing as always!
I think Deaner says he rips off two solos every time and one of them is Maggot Brain
