Waters, Muddy - Got My Mojo Working Lyrics

Got my mojo working, but it just won't work on you
Got my mojo working, but it just won't work on you
I wanna love you so bad till I don't know what to do

I'm going down to Louisiana to get me a mojo hand
I'm going down to Louisiana to get me a mojo hand
I'm gonna have all you women right here at my command

Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working, but it just won't work on you

Play on!

Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working, but it - uh uh - just won't work on you

I am in the back seat of someone’s car in an undisclosed location in the United States of America it is night time. I heard this song and I asked siri what song is this? I then retrieved the song title initially listening to a song that was not this song I found it and now I am listing to it in my headphones. This is all in real-time.

  8. .... ....

The blues ability to self-irony, self-criticism and self-reflection makes it absolutely necessary against stupidity, obscurantism, narcissism, racism and xenophobia. Blues is a healer.

  9. .... ....

The blues is a unique and amazing musical fusion of a keen mind and a touch of vulgarity, which is nowhere else in contemporary music. A touch of vulgarity in the blues came from the deep passion of traditional music. A keen mind in the blues appeared precisely in the period of history when the vulgarity of human passions had to be cleverly masked. The blues combined sexuality and puritanism. That is why even now the blues remains the same. Blues is a healer.

  10. G.... S....

    Grecati armonica. Bellissimo.

  11. D.... L....

Love how james cant sit still .

  12. K.... B....

    Whats a mojo?

  13. W.... D....

I think they had them sit down then because they didn't want them to shake their hips like on Ed Sullivan. Badass Performance

  14. W.... D....

    Hell yeah .... #mikkelchandler

  15. B.... ....

Muddy's hairstyle in the 60's must have inspired a whole generation of rappers in the 90's.

  16. R.... A....

Man, if this don't get you up and dancin' or at least your toe tappin'. Check your pulse, you might be in the morgue!

  17. I.... D....

  23. S.... W....

Only 1 year after this, colour tv came out.

  24. S.... L....

    704 morons dislike?

  25. T.... ....

A lot of great, old songs sound dated because of what came after them and how styles evolved.

But holy hell does this hold up

  26. P.... F....

What does it say about America that those blues guys who laid the foundation for multiple styles of music had to go over to England to get any sort of recognition & respect? ....personally I find it shameful

  27. w.... ....

This is my favourite Muddy song. I have a vinyl record with the original 78rpm recording. Sound quality not too good, but it's the tune that matters. Go muddy, go on boy - give us some more!

  28. M.... L....

Really cool! No one could do this better!

  29. s.... ....

    never mind

  30. W.... C....

One of my favorite things about Muddy is that he’s not just a great guitar player, but he has other fantastic musicians with him, and he really lets them shine. He played with some of the best harmonica players ever, Little Walter in Junior Wells being my favorites.

  31. s.... ....

    Got my mojo woikin.

  32. P.... B....

    Hi Lucas Rieger!

James Cotton, sitting down! History is fuzzy. Wikipedia's page on the Mojo song credits James Cotton as the original harp on the 1956 recording as well, but on Cotton's own page its states "Cotton began working with the Muddy Waters Band around 1955. He performed songs such as "Got My Mojo Working" and "She's Nineteen Years Old", although he did not play on the original recordings; Little Walter, Waters's long-time harmonica player, played for most of Waters's recording sessions in the 1950s. Cotton's first recording session with Waters took place in June 1957, and he alternated with Little Walter on Waters's recording sessions until the end of the decade."
I'm inclined toward this latter information, as the 1956 recording is much slower, giving time to embellish with more Little Walter-like flourishes that add depth. As the song became a standard, the tempo quickened, and the version here is very typical of the most familiar rendition, where Cotton's power overdrive supercharges the solos but loses some of the original subtleties when harp was still just a backup instrument to Muddy's vocals. On the live Fathers and Sons track (from the Cosmic Joyscout Super Jam of 1969), Butterfield and Bloomfield double down into the groove, syncing totally during the encore adding Buddy MIles on drums.
