Washington, Dinah - September In The Rain Lyrics

The leaves of brown
Came tumblin' down, remember
In September in the rain

The sun went out
Just like a dying ember
That September in the rain

To every word of love
I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play
A sweet refrain

Though spring is here
To me it's still September
That September in the rain

To every word of love
I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play
A sweet refrain

Though spring is here
To me it's still September
That September in the rain
That September in the rain

From the era I call Pre-Rock Pop, more commonly known as the Great American Songbook. Jonathan Schwartz still plays it all here:
    http://thejonathanstation.com/
It's an internet-only radio station which began in 6/2018, carrying on the tradition from his show on National Public Radio.

  43. n.... ....

What a horrible rendition. This song is totally wrong for her harsh, grating style that is so effective in some songs. Does she sing everything exactly the same way?

  44. I.... A....

Listen to how she sings "whisper" second time around! Going to add this song to my live set.

That was my first 45 and I played that thing to death, my Mother was a very gifted singer, she traveled singing in choirs, but she had all of these evening gowns and she talked about all of these clubs, so her secret world, that was hard to leave behind...she walked away, I could listen to her talk and know that she missed those times. But what we won't do for love as she remarried and became a full time Mother and Wife.

  74. t.... ....

Dinah's voice reminds me of 1957, when music was so classy and good. The clubs in New York were swinging with good jazz as was L.A. on Central Avenue. Those were the days...

  87. D.... ....

This beautiful song was written by the great team of Harry Warren (music) & Al Dubin (lyrics). Among their other collaborations, they wrote all the songs in the musical "42nd Street".

  88. P.... C....

I bought this vinyl 45 record back in 1961/2, it grabbed me instantly, because of the catchy jaunty treatment, which was so different, and I loved that tinkling piano. It is hard to find original words of praise, to add to those below but, having listened to many other recordings of this famous song since, there is no one better than Dinah Washington's rendering-AND, what a great and original arrangement.

  89. J.... M....

  90. M.... C....

reminds me if the happiest times I saw my mom and she sang and we danced to this and Teresa brewer and Johnny Mathis .. four seasons etc.. Dinah is the best singer ever imo
