Washington, Dinah - September In The Rain Lyrics
The leaves of brown
Came tumblin' down, remember
In September in the rain
The sun went out
That September in the rain
To every word of love
I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play
A sweet refrain
Though spring is here
To me it's still September
That September in the rain
To every word of love
I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play
A sweet refrain
Though spring is here
To me it's still September
That September in the rain
That September in the rain

Heard this gorgeous song for the first time when I was in my very early teens in the 60's. Loved it ever since :) What a lovely voice!!
This was my mother's favorite song. I play it every year on her birthday today is her birthday and I miss her so much..
This is a wonderful music. I remember when my uncle played with the piano this song. when I was young.
This is Dinahs song!
She was married to Dick "Night Train" Lane of the Detrout Lions, who was a Hall of Fame player. Talk about a glamourous couple
Two writers two composers the band Dina.2 minutes 10 seconds.

This song belonged to Dinah Washington ------- and ONLY to her!
Have this on a 45 awesome record and the best version
She was one of the BEST
My most favorite female singer of all time.
September was good
She is the only one that should have recorded this song.
From the era I call Pre-Rock Pop, more commonly known as the Great American Songbook. Jonathan Schwartz still plays it all here:
http://thejonathanstation.com/
It's an internet-only radio station which began in 6/2018, carrying on the tradition from his show on National Public Radio.
I do this song as an instrumental in my live set i could never follow this Lady! and her wonderful voice!
two writer's two composers two minutes.cool
May she RIP & is sadly missed by all of her fans etc.
Memories!!!
What a horrible rendition. This song is totally wrong for her harsh, grating style that is so effective in some songs. Does she sing everything exactly the same way?
Listen to how she sings "whisper" second time around! Going to add this song to my live set.
Bloody marvellous!
Guess what YouTube? It's September and it's raining too. Looks like me in my husband arms is forecasted for the next two days.

I used to sing this for my mom and her girlfriends. Everybody cheered!
Amen to Albert. Grew up on this from my parents. 59 now and still loving it

Absolute class and listen to that double bass, flawless.
Still the greatest version.
Maravilhosa
Perfection
I watched a movie with gorgeous aidan turner in called Hattie, im sure this song was in it, lovely song and beautiful voice.
I placed September in the rain in almost every dance band that I was playing guitar for. There was always something magical about this foxie, and especially when your bass player played an emotional walking bass line.and the drummer played on that hi hat ...... Magical sounds that makes me proud to have been there.
A wonderful "childhood memories" 😎
This song kills me.its just as I remember,,as the first song I fell in love with in 1962 I was 5
Fabulous record - always loved this one !

God, how I miss those days. Dinah Washington and that exquisite voice that didn't need AutoTune.
I wish I could ultra like. Man. This is good.
One of my favorite covers by one of my favorite Harry Warren songs! Two geniuses at play!
What a voice! Impeccable phrasing!
Warren Doris to
That was my first 45 and I played that thing to death, my Mother was a very gifted singer, she traveled singing in choirs, but she had all of these evening gowns and she talked about all of these clubs, so her secret world, that was hard to leave behind...she walked away, I could listen to her talk and know that she missed those times. But what we won't do for love as she remarried and became a full time Mother and Wife.
Sad she died young
Diana Washington is perfect for this song .love it..
Hellen Mathias
After you've gone

daniel matule Truth Spoken Here!!!!
HERE I GO AGAIN...THIS SONG WAS ALSO IN A CARTOON YEARS AGO
Dinah's voice reminds me of 1957, when music was so classy and good. The clubs in New York were swinging with good jazz as was L.A. on Central Avenue. Those were the days...
Music is still good if you know where to look.
Albert Broussard. Well said..
my favourits song of all time x
@Mikey Money Well, Son...lt sure as hell ISN'T on American ldull...

DINAH BEST THERE EVER WAS... TRUST ME.. I COULD PLAY SEPTEMBER OVER AND OVER ALL DAY
You NAILED it Baby! I could listen to every note a 1000 times. Been that way for me for about 50 years.
This beautiful song was written by the great team of Harry Warren (music) & Al Dubin (lyrics). Among their other collaborations, they wrote all the songs in the musical "42nd Street".
I bought this vinyl 45 record back in 1961/2, it grabbed me instantly, because of the catchy jaunty treatment, which was so different, and I loved that tinkling piano. It is hard to find original words of praise, to add to those below but, having listened to many other recordings of this famous song since, there is no one better than Dinah Washington's rendering-AND, what a great and original arrangement.
reminds me if the happiest times I saw my mom and she sang and we danced to this and Teresa brewer and Johnny Mathis .. four seasons etc.. Dinah is the best singer ever imo
Why I never watch so called TV talent shows.Bring me a singer that comes within a million miles of this lady and I might just give them a listen!I don't intend holding my breath......
Such genuine singing. <3
CAN'T BEAT IT!
How can there be no comments? It's a fabulous song!

Always my Favorite Female Singer.? R.I.P. Dinah. For you are Sadly missed by all of your Fans.?
This song is one of the first I remember hearing as a toddler in the early 1960s - my sister used to do a comical version of it
