Warwick, Dionne - Message To Michael Lyrics

Spread your wings for New Orleans
Kentucky bluebird, fly away
And take a message to Michael
Message to Michael
He sings each night in some cafe
In his search to find wealth and fame
I hear Michael has gone and changed his name

It's a year since he wasn't here
Kentucky blue bird, fly away
And take a message to Michael
Message to Michael
Tell him I miss him more each day
As his train pulled out down the track
Michael promised he'd soon be coming back

Oh tell him how my heart just breaks in two
Since he journeyed far
And even though his dream of fame
Fell through
To me he will always be a star

Spread your wings for New Orleans
Kentucky bluebird, fly away
And take a message to Michael
Message to Michael
Ask him to start for home today
When you find him please let him know
Rich or poor
I will always love him so

Fly away, Kentucky bluebird
Fly away, Kentucky bluebird
Fly away
Fly away ...

which may add some meaning to Will Druckers back story on it.

  5. 6.... ....

I loved this song since it’s release in 1966. ( but then, there was no song Dionne Warwick sang that I didn’t love) the ironic thing is from that point on until this very day many Michaels have played important roles in my life . Two passed away through the years. 😥Every Michael I have ever known was/is very special.

  6. R.... T....

Message to Michael was America's No.77 of 1966. This Bacarach and David song peaked at No.8 in US charts back in May 1966, R&B No.5

I was playing in local rock bands in Nashville, TN when this song came on the radio for the first time. It is hard to beat Dion Warwick and Burt Bacharach.

  23. N.... J....

Years ago my then 10-year-old grandson "Michael" heard this song I was playing on a Dionne Warwick CD, and he wanted to play it over and over. Sometime later I went to take the CD out of its jacket to play it and it had been replaced by a blank CD that had writing on it that said "You're stupid". LOL I guess he wanted that CD..... He's now 30 with a son of his own. Payback time.... :)

  27. D.... B....

    great song

  28. W.... D....

Interesting back story to this hit song...originally Burt Bacharach and Hal David intended the song to be recorded by a man with the title, “Message to Maria”...however, Dionne Warwick ended up recording it in a studio in France; without Bacharach or David and changing the name to “Message to Michael”.....what you’re seeing here is Ms. Warwick’s performance of the song on NBC’s Hullabaloo BEFORE its actual release on Scepter records.....Scepter released the tune as a “B” side...but American audiences fell in love with the song and it soared to number 10 on the Billboard top 100....pretty cool

    W.... D....

Or was the original title was "Message to Martha"?

My name is Michael, and this song reminds me so much of my life, I changed my last name when I moved to Hollywood to become an actor, which unfortunately it all fell through (but I did become a model) and nothing became of the acting I so wanted to do, but Dionne said to her I will always be a star. =) I love you Dionne!
