Warren Zevon - Seminole Bingo Lyrics

I'm a junk bond king
And I'm on the run
Me and a friend of mine
We were headed for the sunshine

I got my hands on the wheel
I got gas in the tank
I got a suitcase full of money
From a Luxembourg bank

We didn't stop 'til we got to Big Cypress
Wandered in to the Legion Hall
The sign outside said "Seminole Bingo"
Fell in love with the ping pong balls

And the SEC is far behind
Down in the swamp with the gators and flamingos
A long way from Liechtenstein
I'm a junk bond king playing Seminole Bingo

And my Wall Street wiles
Don't help me even slightly
'Cause I never have the numbers
And I'm losing nightly

I cashed in the last of my Triple B bonds
Bought a double-wide on the Tamiami Trail
I parked it right outside the reservation
Fifteen minutes from the Collier County Jail

And the SEC is far behind
Down in the swamp with the gators and flamingos
A long way from Liechtenstein
I'm a junk bond king playing Seminole Bingo

Well, the SEC is far behind
Down in the swamp with the gators and flamingos
A long way from Liechtenstein
I'm a junk bond king playing Seminole Bingo

I lived in South Florida for years...worth it? Hell-and-damn YEAH!!! Why? Let's just say a flashflood Florida afternoon, a bus running late, and a shopping trip to The Falls led to taking shelter in a Borders bookstore, and thence to jumping ship with a Mad Mutineer! No...didnt run away with Warren Zevon...DAMMIT!!....but he graciously shared his amazing Presence with me for a priceless 10-15 mins......and I have never been the same. I lived in Homestead, 5 mins max from the Mutineer Restaurant in Florida City...Yep! THAT Mutineer! The girls in my office and I routinely ate lunch there every payday...pricey, so only rarely. How was I to know...Fate had already decreed that my favourite local restaurant would lend its name to one of my favourite Zevon albums and songs? Sometimes Fate can be fabulous...sometimes...not so much. I never saw him again..not on stage..noplace. I always thought I'd have Time. I mean...he's Indestructible, right? Well...I was wrong.
    GODDAMMIT

HAPPY NEW YEAR, IRREPLACEABLE ONE!! Warren Zevon lives still because GENIUS never goes out of style...there will ALWAYS be a hunger for intelligent, amusing, brilliant, provocative, beautiful, heart-touching, devastatingly dead-on lyrics, and music that pulls you in, wraps around your soul, awakens your finer spirits, warms and lights the cold, dark spaces in your deepest recesses. ONLY Warren Zevon can do that...only his matchlessly beautiful, Incandescent Spirit can do all these things. And more...SO MUCH MORE. Perfection made Flesh for such a brief, precious Time, Warren's Soul touches us still.....Golden God Of Music, Legend Eternal....HE LIVES!!

My Golden God Of Music, My Legend In The Flesh....my ONLY Hero...Mr. Bad Example...and he LIVES FOREVER!! Warren Zevon... Irreplaceable One!!

What if USA is now living in a Warren Zevon Song?

Warren always soared live with The World's Most Dangerous Band (er, I mean CBS Orchestra-yeah, right CBS where Dave and his show went to die) here, so good they accomplish something extremely rare, IMPROVE on a great Zevon album track, this is even heavier, more rocking with great Sid Mcginnis guitar and solo too. Warren so powerful vocals and piano! Awesome performance.

Warren would often sit in for Paul as the Bandleader when Paul had to be out of town.

Thank you so much WZA . Warren, so literate, well read , so knowing of the past and the present interjected into his songs like no one else like him in the world of pop/rock music. ( Maybe Dylan ). I love "Seminole Bingo" and "Splendid Isolation'. Pure genius. Jackson Browne was extremely instrumental in getting him back into the world of music, after he left America.Jackson sent sent him a post card with 3 sentences. " You've been gone too long. Come back . I'll get you a contract". And that was how Warren Zevon started his real career in music. It started with Jackson who promotes his songs to this day.I think it's been 32 years of promoting and loving.

He was just so damn good. Only just discovered him but better late than never. Just so sad he is gone and I will never see him perform.

All my Wall Street Wiles don't help me even slightly

Co-authored with the great Carl Hiaasen.

I know how he loved to play on those huge concert grands- this is a great performance of one of my fun faves. The whole song process on this was cool- I love to read how these came about! So sadly missed- there needs to be more ZEVON!

    K.... H....

There needs to be more people like you who have hearts filled with love and appreciation. Warren said,  "I'm searching for a heart, searching everyone, they say love conquers all you can't start it like a car, you can't stop it with a gun."

    K.... H....

Karen Hughes This sounds like Porcelain Monkey . WZ had OCD . His wife and friends ( Jackson Browne ) used to have to edit his songs , some would go on and on and on . They would show him where to put the ending .
His dad was a Russian Jewish gangster . Once on Christmas morning , his dad brought home a piano that he won in a card game on Christmas eve . WZ was a child prodigy , he had lessons a few times from Igor Stravinsky , they talked about music therory . When WZ died , he had a shed full of gray socks , gray boxer underwear and gray t-shirts . All from Sears . His family gave them to Salvation Army .

    K.... H....

his relation to stravinsky is always over stated.

For MY money, Warren Zevon is the greatest rock/ folk rock musician the world will ever know. His is the kind of spirit the gods only make one of....ever. Rock the pillars of Heaven, you mad Mutineer! I'll be seeing you again real soon!

  13. N.... O....

one of his best songs, nailed it there.

    WARREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. r.... ....

An absolute genius. Clearly has a great rapport with Letterman's band, and it's one of his finest songs. R.I.P Warren.

  17. T.... ....

Brings back memories of seeing Warren at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro NC, August 1994. Great gig!

  18. M.... R....

Odd to ponder your morbid point of view. We all carry cancer. It's just the gods reminding us...

  19. e.... g....

    love u so much warren!!

  20. g.... ....

Pretty cool especially since I live in Collier county not far from Seminole casino

Thanks for the amazing playlist! I hadn't seen all these Late Night appearances before. This all brings back memories of some very long distance drives with my two very young children back in 2003. My son loved Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner and always waited for the part where Warren says, "talkin about the man". My daughter who was only 3 at the time loved Mr. Bad Example and called it "The Dirt Song". She always had a million questions but never once asked what a prostitute was. :)

  22. C.... D....

    Wasn't that Andy Warhol? ;)

  23. d.... v....

Pretty kinda unprofessional how the blonde dude singing back-up takes his gum out before every line...then puts it back in and starts chomping again.

    d.... v....

Thought so too ... and he's right in the camera shot behind Warren, on full display ... Not cool.

    d.... v....

Don't think Warren would have minded, so long as he did his job. I found it comical.

    d.... v....

@Keith Mcclenaghan You're probably spot on with that. Warren didn't sweat the small stuff, esp. when his Muse had ahold of him. Then it was all about the music...and ain't we lucky it was...

  24. e.... g....

    i love u warren

  25. j.... ....

Warren does a great job on this song but the guitar player isn't being true to the original.

  26. T.... ....

awesome! this is one of my all time fav zevon songs and i hadnt ever seen this performance until now. thanks so much for sharing

  27. O.... ....

Really cool song. Warren captures the greed of the 80's quite nicely in this song. The junk bond king got to retire in Florida, hehe. :) Janet
