Wanda Jackson - Box It Came In Lyrics

My clothes are all ragged my goodwill coat's not the best
And I'm a walking on cardboard in my last dollar dress
I looked in the closet for my wedding gown
But the box that it came in was all that I found

He took everything with him that wasn't nailed down
Bet he's got a new sweetheart to fill my wedding gown
But somewhere I'll find him then I'll have peace of mind
And the box he comes home in will be all satin lined

Wanda Jackson Box It Came In Comments

Saw her in concert in the Holy City (Richmond) several years ago. What a great lady. Elvis’s first GF. He was a fool to lose her.

  2. l.... ....

I copied her lead guitarist's licks on her mid 50's Rockabilly recordings, she inspired us!
This song would be a Lifetime Movie today! But maybe she was singing about getting her geetar back (with it's satin lined case)

  3. J.... B....

Nothing like a good song about homicide

  4. S.... C....

    Great song

  5. c.... z....

Don't mess with Wanda, or you'll regret it.

The question was asked "Why were the girls so much more beautiful back then?" Having grown up in that time period, I can tell you why. They didn't pile on the makeup like they do today. If todays girls would take a putty knife and scrape off about 5 pounds of that crap so the skin would show and start over, they would see a difference. Makeup is to enhance the natural beauty, not cover it up. In case you're wondering, I'm a 67 year old man. I know what I like to look at. It's not a girl with makeup so thick it cracks when she tries to smile.

  23. R.... D....

Revenge!  There is nothing to fear like a woman spurned.  I haven't heard this one before, but I like it, just as I like most of Wanda Jackson's songs.

  24. P.... C....

This is a great example of the country music I heard when I was a kid.
Whenever I mention country music to people they invariably say.. OH NO, stupid songs about, "my truck/my dog/the flag/daddys' gun"  and so forth.
Too bad Nashville was turned into a watered down version of itself, nobody even knows what real country is anymore, just that sugar coated mass appeal formula stuff that America loves to buy for $7.99 at Wal Mart.

    P.... C....

Hey, brother. If you Love True country music, come find me on FB. Driftin' Luke

    P.... C....

I call it "Barry Manilow Country", an extra chord worked in now & then is nice but when morph a four chord song into a dozen unnecessary chords----

  25. J.... K....

You just had to be there Love her then and still do. Nasal twang at it's finest or music for the ole folks

  32. p.... ....

Got to be the best female singer in music. I can listen to Wanda all day and never tire of her voice.

  39. D.... H....

    ...Costa Mesa California ...1968...!

  40. e.... ....

im wondering who plays the steel on this record, it sounds alot like lloyd green but im not sure, does anyone know?

  41. D.... W....

@ronshalita I also, am impressed with the numbers. It seems that old time country music is not dead, in spite of what Nashville churns out these days. I am amazed at the number of younger ones who comment about how much they like this kind of music. It is a shame they never got to hear it on the radio. It brings back so many memories. Thanks for your comment. Let's get the steel guitar back!

  42. p.... ....

  51. p.... ....

This is one of her best, another is My Big Iron Skillet

  52. G.... M....

  53. S.... ....

Ok, I think I just made a 'video response' to this too. Thanks for posting it - I'm glad to see the original of this song in circulation - I learned it from The Sweetback Sisters not Wanda, and I've been wanting to hear this. THANKS!

  54. t.... ....

Thanks for the comments Geena, 4712 and Joy.
I started collecting Wanda's records as a teenager. There were some great female C&W singers around in the 50s and 60s.
But I always liked Wanda best.

  55. K.... L....

Wanda is still collectable, still doing great, doing great songs.
Who else from the female singers of the 50s is still active?
    - I know none!

    K.... L....

Right! And they STILL won't put
    the grande dame
    of country music
into the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME!😭😭😭😭
