Walker Hayes - Craig Lyrics
I met Craig at a church called Redeeming Grace
Like he understood my "I don't want to be here" face
I felt out of place and I smelled like beer
But he just shook my hand, said "I'm glad you're here"
He said "we'll all be judged"
And even though my songs don't belong in no hymnal
He'd quote me my lyrics, slap me on the back
Said "Man you've got a gift! How you write like that?"
I know, he sounds cool right?
Not your typical kid from Sunday School, right?
I still ain't figured out church yet
But Craig, I get
Nah he can't walk on water, turn the Napa Valley red
But he just might be tight with a man that did
But I wish that mine was bright as his
Yeah he just might be tight with a man that is
You lose a record deal, all the perks fade fast
Dealership said, "We're going to need to get that mini-van back"
So we were down on one car
And broke as I felt
My wife and six kids with only five seat belts
I needed help but couldn't admit, I was strong
Said, "Craig, it's all good"
But he knew it all wasn't
A "Hey man I'm praying for you" would've been sufficient but nah
He took roadside assistance to a
Whole other level, to sacrificial heights
Showed up at the ballpark after my son's game one night
In two cars, with his wife Barb watching from the other
Said "What in the world are y'all doing here, brother?"
He just laughed inside that old Chrysler Town and Country van
With the keys, and a title, and a pen in his hand
Said "Man, all you got to do is sign and it's yours"
I said "No, no way"
But he wouldn't take "No" for an answer
Said "Please do
Somebody did this for me once, just let me do this for you"
We argued about it for a little while
Then I teared up, and Craig smiled
I know, he sounds cool right?
Not your typical kid from Sunday School, right?
Nah he can't walk on water, turn the Napa Valley red
But he just might be tight with a man that did
Yeah he's not the light of the world
But I wish that mine was bright as his
Yeah he just might be tight with a man that is
Nah he's not the light of the world
But I wish that mine was bright as his
Yeah he just might be tight with a man that is
My pride was way too ashamed to be adequately grateful at the moment
But I signed the dotted line, and I drove the kids home
And when the cop pulled up beside us
At the light, they didn't have to duck
Because thanks to Craig
They were all buckled up

Walker Hayes Craig Comments
Thanks man
It's weird, because though this song doesn't sound country, it's one of the few non-country songs that I actually like. It sounds nice, it's laidback, and it sounds sincere. I appreciate the honesty of this song, and it's story for that matter, as well. I like other genres of music as well, like some 70s music for example, but for non-country songs branded as country songs, this is one of the few non-country songs branded as country songs, that I actually don't mind.
One of the worst songs I’ve ever heard
This guy sounds like an incredibly massive douche.
Macklemore is that you
Beautiful
Simply horrible!
I searched the story behind this and I almost cried
Thanks craig
😊😊😊😊😊😊🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😀😀😀😀😀😀😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I don’t know how I never saw the Craig video before. ❤️
The lyrics help me get over the drum pad.
I met crag at a charch call redeeman grass
Hes killin it!
Nice song i know a wounded full person named craig
If this is a song about meeting a church leader, why does it sound like he’s trying to pick him up?
Awesome song with an awesome story. I listen to it all the time. I’m surprised it hasn’t had more chart success
Good lyric, not great song
Amen!!!!!!!!
Grady was right. This seems like he was trying to seduce him. I just don’t understand how people can enjoy this.
I'm here from Grady too!
I don't know why this is marketed as Country music...
@The Sweaty Yeti Because 95 percent of people who listen to music like ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that's heavily influenced by pop.
It sounds like he's about to suck Craig off.
I get goosebumps every time I here this song!
Thanks Craigs of the world true spirt of gods love.
I love this!
The 91 dislikes we're all mistakes
chase studios No I can confirm mine was definitely on purpose
Same country cookie cutter bullshit. Dont get me wrong i like some country but this song sounds like it was produced at a corporate meeting of a multi million dollar company to make a quick buck
Thank you for sharing this story. Grateful for your talent and for those that share and care for others.
So did he like fuck the preacher? Sounded like he was trying to pick him up. This ain't country. This was more pop rap. The fuck is wrong with y'all?
Another corny country song about getting raped by a preacher.
Brilliant song and message. Shame it ain’t bigger. Perfection.
Random act of kindness, you know? I feel that. Also, fuck 'em, use them snap tracks, who actually gives a shit?
How does this only have 96k views?!
This is true Christianity! Thank you, Craig, and all the other "Craig"s in the world, for exhibiting Christ's love.
I’m not about religion really but I am about the Craig’s of this world. If that makes Sense
@Dskeens25 Perfect sense. We need more selflessness in the world.
Clearly you have talent, but can all the country artists these days please stop this same R&B snap track nonsense?
The message is nice, but... getting some fruity vibes from this
I love how Walker has the guts to take a personal situation and turn it into something inspirational for everyone. www.beacraig.org Way to go Walker!
everyone be a Craig
Why does this sound like rap?
Because That's what its trying to be.....
This would have been so much better without the snaps.
Fake country Macklemore. Never thought I'd see that.
He sounds like he is trying to pickup his preacher
This a total RIP off of macklemore....just stop disguising this crap for country music
Oceans808 shut up
Where does the original melody come from
lmao 🤐
Another garbage snap track.
What a beautiful way of words and creative poetry
ONE OF THE MOST HORRIBLE SONGS EVER WRITTEN
WOW
Sarcasm?
perhapspenguins that’s kinda rude man
Nix Weldon what is? I said the same thing you did
perhapspenguins oh oops sorry I thought you were the guy that made the comment for a second
Nix Weldon oh haha lil
It’s not a bad song, but I don’t see how it’s considered “country” just because the artist has some country music. This is pop music, nothing wrong with that, but most of the songs with the clap/snap backing should be considered pop music. Macklemore would be proud though.
I wouldn't call it pop either
This is so country, it reminds me of something Hank Williams would have written. (sarcasm)
I almost stopped reading your comment to say "bullshit" then I read the rest of it :) oops lol
@soupertrooper song is so stupid it hurts lol
I actually haven't really listened to it I just heard a bit of it on another video and had to come here to point out how un-country it is but that is well covered already lol
@soupertrooper I saw it on Grady Smith's video and I had to hear it for myself. I don't mean to be such a hater, but I grew up listening to 90s country and older which, to me, was country in every sense of the word. This is bubble gum pop just a little worse. Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite band
That may be the video I saw it on, I don't know. I do know they need to stop calling it country. I guess I shouldn't say that because 99% of "country" since probably 1999 lol shouldn't be called country. I listen to Oldies more than anything. Even that isn't what it used to be- I listen to 3-4 stations on the radio and every one of them are playing more new songs than actual Oldies and a lot of songs that used to be staples are never played anymore, anyway end of monotonous dissertation lol.
This is garbage
amen. AMEN AMEN AMEN!!!!!!
ur attitude is garbage but here we are sksksk
Any relation to Hunter Hayes?
I absolutely love this song, as well as the simplicity and execution of this video.... well done!!!!
He really loves Craigslist
Love this song, beautiful meaning. Sounds a lot like country macklemore.
ChannelX24 there is no country resemblance in this song
@Braden Gentry True, he is talking about normal people though and the impacts small and large acts of kindness can have. Hes telling a story also. So I guess there are similar elements to those found in tradition country songs.
There are similarities with how the song is meant for you to listen to a story told. But what makes this song not a country song is the instruments. There is no traditional country music beat or melody. Plus he is not singing in the song, he’s talking. So no this is not a country song at all.
@Braden Gentry I see your point man. I don't see it as country per say but just on the edge.
<3 I love this song so much.
Inspirational
Not country but wonderful song
Can we all talk about how amazing this song is and how it expresses what the love of God can do
That crack at the church is called redeeming grace~
snap tracks are garbage. wtf are you singing this song to your preacher...

Seriously one of the best songwriters this world has seen! The poetry and the catchiness of all your songs is so damn inspiring!
What a great song! Thanks man
Wow...that is what I call 'Pay it forward'!! Walker....you hit this out of the park....dbl thumbs up!!!
Thank You Craig!!
Not country whatsoever but I like the lyrics of this song
Yay going to his concert soon!!!
Still my favorite song can relate so much
Macklemore called, he wants his style back.
Exactly
Sit your ass down there's room at the table for everyone
I would love to see videos for Beckett and shut up Kenny yes a bit of a fan lol

I've loved this song from the beginning keep it up Walker
He's so underrated :(
U are so cute
Lovely... Saved....😘😘
That crack at the church is redeeming grace~
Am I the only one that thinks he sounds a lot like Macklemore? Different style of music, obviously, but his vocals...
@Remember Death *GUESS WHAT MENTAL BITCH??? I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT A FEW THINGS. FIRST HE SOUNDS NOTHING CLOSE TO WHATEVER THE FUCK THAT IS. ALSO WAKING UP ME AND MY HUSBAND WHEN WE HAVE TO GET UP AT 63O AND GET OUR FOUR KIDS FOR DAYCARE AND OURSELVES READY FOR WORK*
@Remember Death *I ALSO DON'T NEED TO KNOW WHAT THAT SICK NO TALENT SOUNDS LIKE. THIS IS TOO COUNTRY TO CLASSIFY AS ANYTHING ELSE FOR ANY OTHER GENRE AND THAT BITCH YOU'RE REFERRING TO CAN'T SOUND COUNTRY IF HE TRIED. WALKER ALSO HAS A COUNTRY SOUND TO HIS VOICE UNLIKE WHAT'S HIS FACE. IT'S NOT AN OPINION WHEN IT'S A FACT THAT HE SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE HIM. BYE BITCH. GOING BACK TO BED*
Yep, sounds exactly like macklemore
@countrygirl countrymusiclover your wrong
@Gabriel Weiskittel *GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME MENTALLY DERANGED BITCH. I AM AS FAR FROM WRONG AS YOU CAN GET. YOU ARE WRONG AT TWO THINGS: SAYING I AM WRONG AND USING YOUR INSTEAD OF YOU'RE. IT'S YOU'RE YOU FUCKING BITCH. NOT YOUR. DON'T TELL SOMEBODY THEY'RE WRONG WHEN ONE THEY'RE NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO WRONG AND TWO YOU ARE WRONG AT SOMETHING YOURSELF. I HAVE SHOWN YOUR COMMENT TO ME AND MY HUSBAND'S THREE OLDER KIDS. THEY ARE THREE FIVE AND SEVEN YEARS OLD. THEY KNOW WHEN TO USE YOUR AND YOU'RE AND LAUGH WHEN I SHOW THEM WHEN PEOPLE USE THOSE THE WRONG WAY. HOPE YOU DIDN'T MIND A THREE FIVE AND SEVEN YEAR OLD LAUGHING AT YOUR MENTAL ASS*
I lurve your Good Stuff cover too .... just made the song interesting to listen to.
Btw I've played your songs everyday now its stuck in my 7 year old son's head ..He can sing "You Broke up With me" better than me LOL
Your music is so unique ..I've heard how Elvis "Thats Alright Mama was something different in that era .... Yours is what's different in this era and just made the other Country songs sound so cheesy .... Its Country still ....its the new Country .... Other artists better catch up ....
Ew 👎
You think this is unique. Try sturgill simpson. That's what you call unique man
💕💕💕💕💕💕
Walker Hayes u inspire me too write music of my own and I’m so very thankful that your my inspiration 🙂
HELL YES!!! WE NEED LELA STARS!
Absolutely beautiful. We need more people like Craig in this world.

Simple and beautiful! Wonderful job as always!
This is an awesome song keep the music rolling
I can’t wait to hear this live at the crystal palace next week!
Wow.
Such a beautiful video.
That song is so good
This song has such a strong and beautiful meaning!!!
One of the most underrated artists in the game right now. I hope people realize the talent and creativity that you have, and you can make it big again, keep up the great work Walker!
Amen people need to realize then wonderful talent and stop paying attention to the wanna be's
How is this a country song??? It has the same monotone that every country song has. The melody in his voice sounds like he’s hitting on Craig. That talk-rap-sing shit is ear piercing and needs to be ended... R.I.P. country music...
