Waits, Tom - Top Of The Hill Lyrics
New corn yellow and slaughterhouse red
The birds keep singing
Baby after you're dead
I'm gonna miss you plenty
Big old world
And your mother of pearl
Stop and get me on the ride up [3x]
I'm only goin
I'm, only goin
I'm only goin to the top
Of the hill
I need your moon to be the sky
Sky against
Stuck on the fence
Diego red and bedlam money are fine
Why don't you come up here
And see me sometime
Stop and get me on the ride up [3x]
I'm only goin
I'm, only goin
I'm only goin to the top
Of the hill
There's very little leeway
I seen a mattress on the freeway
The moon rises over Dog Street
Jefferson said every things reet
Have all the lights burned
Out on heaven again
I'll never roll the number 7 again
I'm made of bread and I'm on an
Ocean of win
I hear all the birdies
On the phone just fine
Stop and get me on the ride up [3x]
I'm only goin
I'm, only goin
I'm only goin to the top
Of the hill
Black joke and the bean soup
Big sky and the Ford Coupe
Old maid and the dry bones
Red Rover and the Skinny Bones Jones
47 mules to pull this train
We're getting married
In the pouring rain
You need your differential and
Plenty of oil
You load the wagon till
The end of the world
Stop and get me on the ride up [3x]
I'm only goin
I'm, only goin
I'm only goin to the top
Of the hill
What's your throttle made of
IS it money or bone
Don't doddle or you'll
Never get home
Opium, fireworks, vodka and meat
Scoot over and save me a seat
Stop and get me on the ride up [3x]
I'm only goin
I'm, only goin
I'm only goin to the top
Of the hill
If I had it all to do all
Over again
I'd try to rise above the law of man
Why don'cha gimme nother
Sip of your cup
Turn a Rolls Royce into a
Chicken coup, uh huh
Stop and get me on the ride up [3x]
I'm only goin
I'm, only goin
I'm only goin to the top
Of the hill

Waits, Tom Top Of The Hill Comments
Salvaje! Desmembrado y valiente.
duhdoduhdo
singing this to myself and passing cars walking up the big hill home every day: "stop and get me on the ride up?"
You can hear how modest mouse 90s was influenced by him I like those old mm albums
i love this album, but this, song 1, sounds like a parody of some kind
Knew someone who had a bmw as a chicken coop.
That is a Bit dramatic.
the commercials are overwhelming - FUCK GOOGLE/POOTUBE - im out
This sounds like something you would hear on a South Park's episode
So like Primus?
@J3ST3R5 funny because Les Claypool plays bass on this album
13 people have no musical taste .
Can’t stop dancing around my apartment to this song. I’m obsessed
very cool man
Reminds me a bit of Krautrock band Faust for some reason.
mattress on the freeway.
i love him but this is one of his worst
No one simply "likes" Tom Waits - you either love his music or you hate his music style. To those who hate it, I truly feel sympathy for them, because they have no idea just diversified his music is. He "re-invented" himself long before any other music stars even thought to coin that phrase.
Sucker ! "Everything go to hell anyway"..
I don't know people who "hate" Tom Waits more often you meet people who have never heard of him.
jkgoodspeed while I agree, there are those who don't particularly dig his more traditional "ballad" style songs and albums but love this phase of him being an odd weird bastard. Master of reinventing himself though
jkgoodspeed First song I've heard from him was Dead and Lovely which is one of the greatest things I've heard. This song is my second, interesting so far.
Listen to the lyrics... this song is about dying and going to heaven. "Opium, fireworks, vodka, and meat/Scoot over and save me a seat". I liked this song so much when I first heard it, I went out and bought the CD.
No?! Really??! Holy shit, thank God you told us, no-one else could figure it out!
HEEEEEEERRMMMM
ANOOOOO!!
I meant to say this is Tom Waits rap song.
Is this Tom Waits rap song?
This is when he started beatboxing, literally
Hi check out my facebook profile with more music https://www.facebook.com/The-boy-who-loves-logic-1485252218448852 THANKS :)
1978 Oslo was better :)
great sounds
Very Captain Beefheart inspired.
+punkpoetry Nonetheless, Waits was heavily inspired by Von Vliet. We don't have to go politically correct with the music and sound but his voice. Growly and rough like Beefheart and Howlin' Wolf.
Neither Beefheart nor Waits would have developed their vocal styles without the seminal influence of Howlin Wolf. The pronounced hip hop feel to this LP, I think, owes a lot to the influence of Tom's son Casey. Has anyone out there heard the mash-up LP of Waits and hip hop emcee Aesop Rock? It's really good, and it's on Youtube. Tom also sang the vocal hook on a Kool Keith number whose name escapes me.
I couldn't agree less, this sounds nothing like Beefheart. I'd compare this to Mungo Jerry before Beefheart.
ha ha ha it sounds like Beefheart just fine, who sounds like Howlin Wolf and you know, it probably goes back to some Slavic guy in the 1600s no one will ever, ever know about.
But....when it comes down to it, are we not hugely blessed to have both Beefheart and Waits in the first place?
I feel so bad for people that truly can't understand the beauty of this amazing music. Their lives will never be complete. 😢
Pure raw music my friend. Under appreciated. This isn't altered by machines; it's just a mic, and a bad ass band. Tommy boy is the man
fuck off dude
@XenoGuru besides the use of turntables
Your life's complete if you believe it is.
sharp n classie
he is awsome in the film ruble fish !!!!

bryan herman - stay gold
Rumble Fish
Also great in seven psychopaths!
2 people aren't real gone
tom waits is everything
Summer Del Rey yes just amazing
That's exactly why I like it.
Wow, this is honestly the WORST song Ive ever heard. I had to look Tom up because I heard he's good but damn, that's some shit man. Sounds like a cat in a garbage can dying.
I think that's how it's supposed to sound he's real gone
listen tho shoot the moon.. this is pure genius but maybe you should start there and work your way darker
This isn't bad, personally I prefer the early Jazz and Blues stuff, I don't care much for the vaudeville type stuff but I still try to get into it. His voice on the early albums is phenomenal, when he goes too hard with it I just I don't know, not really into it.
No offense, but you also picked the wrong song to check out first.
Don;t waste your time commenting then? Just move on, it's fine.
best song to listen to when watching Herman do fucking switch front heels, half cab heels, nollie front heels, nollie inward heels, regular and switch frontside flips and whatever the hell else he does over picnic tables
one of the best vids ever made.
$TAY GOLD mate!
HermDog yeah!
ill make it someday darn darn.
great groove !!!!!
Thanks thanks for uploading this! I got the cd somewhere on my shelf, so it's very nice and easy to youtube up this every time the song wants to tickle my fancy.
