The beginning always remindes me of something... a soundtrack from Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) or something like that... I just can't get the hold of it.

I love Secret Of Mana and still play it nowadays with SNES emulator (I also played Zelda A Link To The Past the last few days again). The in game music in SoM is one of the greatest I heard.

ive been in many bad places, on a flight into Iraq,...when shit was going bad,.....didnt know if we were going to make it,...flying in a sandstorm,....my 3 buddies, i plugged them all into my ipod, for this song,...so if we died,...it'd be to a good song. VNV love your music!

Well... it depends, does it not? Considering how many people know and appreciate VNV Nation, it seems likely that whatever band member wrote those lyrics has at some point crossed paths with somebody feeling that way too.
Of course there are many who don't have that kind of public exposure and have a much harder time to find "kindred spirits" and for whom those lyrics are quite literally true...

i listen to this song for years and today is heavy... today my life really did hit me hard. there's no need to tell you guy's what happend. i just want to thank you, that you have the courage to show your feelings even if they are as vulnerable as the ones of other people. we live once... and we all will be always to young to be unhappy. i will pick up my boxing career again wich i stopped because of the love that i lost. my deepest respect for beeing honestly yourselves. As a graphic Artist, I struggled to get on top of my competition, and I almost did...That was until some few people I loved, got into their own respective accidents, and I slowly began to stop working on my art, stop working on everything. Now, its November, and I have a lot that need to get done...In the twilight of everything, this song came up on the radio...And somehow, felt re-energized, revitalized; alive, again.
