Vega, Suzanne - Pornoghrapher's Dream Lyrics

She's a pornographer's dream, he said.
I knew what he meant.
But it made me imagine: what kind of a dream
He would have, that hadn't been spent?

Would he still dream of the thigh? of the flesh upon high?
What he saw so much of?
Wouldn't he dream of the thing that he never
Could quite get the touch of?

It's out of his hands, over his head
Out of his reach, under this real life
Hidden in veils, covered in silk
He's dreaming of what might be

Out of his hands, over his head
Out of his reach, under this real life
Hidden in veils,
He's dreaming of mystery.

Bettie Page is still the rage
With her legs and leather;
She turns to tease the camera, and please us at home,
And we let her.

Who's to know what she'll show of herself,
In what measure?
If what she reveals, or what she conceals,
Is the key to our pleasure?

It's out of our hands, over our heads
Out of our reach, under this real life
Hidden in veils, covered in silk
We're dreaming of what might be

It's out of our hands, over our heads
Out of our reach, under this real life
Hidden in veils
We're dreaming of mystery.

She's a pornographer's dream, he said.
I knew what he meant.
But it made me imagine: what kind of a dream
He would have?

Suzanne made something so beautiful out of a topic most people would be disgusted of and because of that I respect and love her songs

    S.... M....

Precisely. Such beautiful music and honest lyrics for something taboo

  10. j.... w....

of course you don't need me, later

  11. j.... S....

    Bossa Nova.

  12. M.... C....

Such a brilliant chord progression. Solo crescendos into a fantasy world then jumps back to reality.. Whispers, "have" at the end on a suspended chord leaving a longing.. So brilliant, God damn.
Suzie is granted the title of "Master Bard".

    M.... C....

I love suspended chords and the ambiguity they infer. I've loved Bossa Nova since I was a kid too. What an accomplished song / arrangement.

    M.... C....

@Mark Glenn Truly. So underappreciated, this. I've never met an expression of emotion to its equal through music. I mean, during the near-end, "real life" is echoed and fades as the music "fantasy" crescendo. Damn brilliant, as if to battle each other in contrast. Real life wins in the end, but a whisper wistfully makes the dream still alive but so distant. Amazing.

  13. V.... R....

Suzanne Vega is a recording artist who writes music for the world, I was lucky enough to see her live at the Auckland town hall, I think that was around 1986 with a good friend who is no longer with us, but he loved her music as much as I did and do, His name was and is Lyle Jenkins an amazing bass player and just a great guy, , and he could play all her songs, backwards! I guess you could google her and go, oh yeah that's right!!l Luka, great song:) but there's so many more!!!!So if you love folk , country, blues, rock and funk all wound into a ball of just great music, Suzanne Vega is an artist you should explore:) Kind regards and best wishes Suzanne, thank you for the music:)

end whispers in a ghost-note at the end, sadly, "..have." Brilliant beyond measure.

  15. D.... M....

anyone who thinks this was written with an underage child in mind is someone trying to justify their sick urges. it is not appropriate to the song. sickos.

    D.... M....

You're the one thinking it. SMH

    D.... M....

That was in response to allusions in an earlier comment.  Sigh.

Poetic symmetry awash in textures of rhythm and sounds. Wonderfully orchestrated, art.

  18. j.... m....

A perfect balance of the voice and music. This is her band.

  25. L.... L....

The art of merging poem to melody at its finest.

  26. s.... ....

This picture, Natalie Portman was 14. It's not ethical to put this picture here. It's definitely WRONG.

    s.... ....

    I thinks its the point.

    s.... ....

    PokeTrainer_Alex
Stupid people take poetry to latterly here.......Watching to many porn movies, feeling ashamed

    s.... ....

WTF u doing here then? bulldhit

    s.... ....

I don't think so. Pedophiles are not the way they are because of some comments on youtube!

  27. Z.... F....

    awesome

  28. P.... ....

    Brazilian Bossa Nova? Beautiful music!

  29. P.... ....

He's simply exercising the same right to state his opinion (as are you of course). And I'd say that the way he formulated it, and considering how little that original comment has to do with the vid in the first place, I can understand the reaction quite well.

  30. L.... ....

    i love song---- :)

  31. L.... ....

    i love song---- :)

  32. P.... G....

a dream shared with lots of internet porn consumers.

  33. B.... F....

Great and Good Bossa Nova.I totally LOVED ! Everything is good on this video, I love the "movie", Suzanne, and definitely the music...greetings from Brazil

  34. R.... O....

So, that means that if you do not agree with his/her viewpoint, they are not welcome to state theirs? Close minded haters have no tolerance, huh. Notice no one is trying to keep you from spouting your angry bias. Try to be as fair as those you despise.

  35. E.... T....

    Yo tuve.

  36. R.... ....

@TPrtn Kindly take your religious spam somewhere else. Not everyone shares your beliefs, and shoving your religion om people is really quite rude.

  37. L.... R....

i really really love this song.

  38. G.... ....

    Totally Bossa-Nova song.

    G.... ....

    I think the same

  39. S.... B....

    Lovely lovely song

  40. H.... ....

Oh my... Every one song of Suzanne Vega is an utter beauty. I am definitely going to find out each and every song she has ever been related to some day.

  41. T.... ....

If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord", and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. JESUS CHRIST IS LORD !

  42. g.... ....

well said. and yes, it's a lovely song...pity it's not so popular but perhaps Natalie Portman could change that....

  43. M.... ....

Yeah man thanks for the vid Great Song "Angel's Doorway" is another good track on the full album Beauty & Crime.
I know everyone watching has or will buy the album, also this is good publicity so please don't take it down YoohToob.

  44. A.... ....

this is literally my favorite song now, shit

  45. W.... ....

    Benny, Bring me Everyone......>>>EVERYONNNNNEEEEEEEE!!!!!<<<

  46. l.... ....

And don't forget Solitude Standing (1987).

  47. F.... ....

Seriously. Mad genius on that one.

  48. M.... ....

I watched this film (Leon) on Monday!
I also really like this song!

  49. d.... ....

    I think you're right.

  50. M.... C....

Not necessarily. Imagine one who already currently had this anytime he wanted? The key to the song is something he has not had: "dreaming of mystery." Something unknown yet.

  51. d.... ....

A pornographer's dream would be a smoking hot bitch who will do ANY sexual act, regardless!

  52. d.... ....

I like this song as much as I like Tom's Diner!!

  53. t.... ....

    Κόσμος 93.6 Κομματάρα

  54. T.... ....

Natalie Portman. this shot is from the movie Léon: The Professional

  55. Z.... ....

Just might be a tad too sexy to be legal!

  56. Z.... ....

No Timothy, you have elevator taste...

  57. Z.... ....

Damn, you are so right on the mark, and you write eloquently!

  58. T.... H....

    Suzanne Vega makes elevator music.

  59. E.... M....

That’s exactly what I thought! It brought back good memories. I used to go see Maria Bethania & Vinicius de Moraes playing in small pubs...a long, long time ago. I think I am going to check now if there are any good tunes of Maria Creuza or Toquinho in YouTube. Obrigado! :)

  60. a.... ....

    15 Pornographer's have diffrent dreams

  61. T.... ....

of course she was!. But doncha worry bout a thing, girls like her ARE ALREADY in porn...

  62. l.... ....

I do love the production on 'Nine Objects of Desire' though....lushly produced, yet organic-sounding and with room to breathe....certainly not over-production.

  63. A.... M....

    This sounds like bossa (:

  64. C.... ....

    Peadophiles dream. Lol

  65. w.... ....

Check out the "Live Session 2007" version, where she is dressed as a combination of a Bob Fosse dancer and Judy Garland ("Forget your troubles, come on get happy..") Pure chic sophistication and feminine allure, not a hint of the crude or vulgar. If there's any thing sexier than Suzanne, it's Suzanne in a jaunty hat.

  66. w.... ....

I suppose there's a case against Froom's influence, though I do love "99.9 F". Some complain that his sound is overproduced; I say that when properly blended with her artistry, it takes on an otherworldy, edge-of-madness quality that appeals strongly to me, at least. (\Think Lady Pink Floyd, with more synth.) But I do agree, she certainly doesn't need him to be great, and the non-Froomed albums are superior, especially the magnificent "Beauty & Crime".

  67. h.... ....

lol at the pic of Portman when she's a kid. Song is not a Pedophile's Dream

  68. d.... ....

That is Natalie from "The Professional" with Jean Reno. A great film of saving a young child's, who can have a chance of a good life on her terms. Love the song

  69. l.... ....

@mahatmacote I agree. Actually I don't like her music produced by her ex-husband Mitchell Froom. The two albums you mentionned represented a return to artistic triumph for her.

  70. m.... ....

Good album, from a lovely period of Suzanne Vega's music.
Songs in Red and Grey is excellent

  71. V.... ....

@overlandpark6me Oh, enough of that. She's an excellent actress!! In my opinion, anyway. I saw her in SW: Phantom Menace. She was GREAT!! Also saw her Black Swan movie too. OUTSTANDING (bagged her an OSCAR, y'know!!). Enough of the petty jealousy and snide remarks, OP. She's straight in my books.

  72. s.... ....

    @overlandpark6me
Have you seen V for Vendetta? I think her performance is outstanding!

  73. i.... ....

    @badoocee I thought so too:-)

  74. c.... ....

    great song:)

  75. A.... F....

Awesome, Suzanne Vega rocks my world, such inner and outer beauty combined into a remarkable soul

  76. C.... ....

I haven't listened to the lyrics, but so far, luka, toms diner, and this song are amazingly nostalgic and wonderful

  77. b.... ....

thank you for posting, no, THANK YOU FOR POSTING!! it deserves to be in capital letters. this makes me want to check the rest of the album, which i will do right now!!!!!!!!!

  78. S.... ....

@CuddlyBadger I'd drill 12 year old Natalie Portman like a piledriver.

  79. d.... l....

Great song, musically. I like the classic sounds, sultry voice and the payoff as it builds energy.

  80. P.... ....

Suzanne Vega has a knack of making music with dark and foreboding themes sound so casual

  81. A.... M....

One of my favourite Vega songs. Has a lovely 1960's french feel to it.Think Astrud Gilberto.

  82. a.... ....

    Currently obsessed with this song.

  83. d.... ....

    This is pure genius!

  84. S.... B....

Reminds me of that teardrop song that is House m.d.'s open theme (original song with voice)... very nice! :O

  85. M.... ....

i clicked this cos i thought: "thats not suzanne vega :/ thats that girl from leon" and i was right. ah am proud of mahself. x) thats all i do on youtube o_o

  86. B.... B....

lmao.... Natalie Portman when she was 12. Pornographer's dream. LMFAO

  87. k.... ....

@ernest671 I'm glad you like it.

  88. E.... H....

    Thanks for posting, THANK YOU
