Van Zandt, Townes At My Window Comments
  1. d.... ....

I detect influence on the Eagles

  2. N.... N....

RIP Townes, There s NO ONE LIKE YOU.

  3. J.... B....

May you rest in the finest of sleep Townes Van Zandt.

  4. P.... C....

This is a beautiful performance/recording. I often prefer Townes with just his voice and guitar, that directness and intimacy; the space. However this particular version is delicate, empathetic, ethereal, perfect.

  5. V.... K....

Never heard this version. But there is another that starts with a beautiful violin (look it up, that too is beautiful).

  6. C.... ....

Where is this version from and why does he sound younger than said album?

  7. B.... B....

    Awww ~ Beautiful 💙

  8. w.... ....

my new favorite TVS song, so many former favorites

  9. D.... C....

I am so overwhelmed by Townes that it makes me believe that perfection actually exists and it's a slightly weird feeling... listening to Townes is possibly the most desirable thing on this Earth.

  10. l.... ....

I come back to this every few months or so, and have for a while now. I still forget to breathe when TVZ starts to sing this poetry.

    l.... ....

I fell across Townes via Three Billboards four weeks ago. I soar and cry when he sings

  11. e.... s....

    haunting ~

  12. M.... L....

Don't know why they have Woody Guthrie as writer on this. Wrong ! Writer is Townes Van Zandt !

    M.... L....

Do you know what version this is where it came from

  13. K.... D....

    THEE DEFINITIVE Version

  14. J.... B....

He was a simple and gentle man with a lot to say. May you Rest In Peace Townes van Zandt.

  15. t.... m....

I was trying to convince my girlfriend that commercial music has no soul, it’s made to sell. I should’ve just turned on Townes instead.

  16. S.... G....

    Bad rhymes and fine lines

  17. J.... R....

I think of Townes and beyond other songwriters he could bring you as low as you could and as high as God's love to man on the cross.

  18. G.... D....

This is a great song! Townes knows the right words!

  19. r.... A....

    At my window
    Watching the sun go
    Hoping the stars know
    It's time to shine
    Daydreams
    Aloft on dark wings
    Soft as the sun streams
    At days decline

    Living is laughing
    Dying says nothing at all
Baby and I are laying here
    Watching the evening fall

    Time flows
    Through brave beginnings
    And she leaves her endings
    Beneath our feet
    Walk lightly
    Upon their faces
    Leave gentle traces
    Upon their sleep

    Living is dancing
    Dying does nothing at all
Baby and I are laying here
    Watching the evening fall

    Three dimes
    Hard luck and good times
    Fast lines and low rhymes
    Ain't much to say
    Feel fine
    Feel low and lazy
    Feel grey and hazy
    Feel far away

    Living is sighing
    Dying ain't flying so high
Baby and I are lying here
    Watching the day go by

    r.... A....

    Thank for lyrics !

  20. K.... ....

I am struggling emotionally. Have had tecumseh valley on repeat. I feel like Caroline.Dreams that didn't come true. Than this song came on. I have never heard.. I was just recently introduced to Townes. I am just in a puddle of tears. This song is beautiful.

    K.... ....

    K.... ....

Come to Texas.I will help ya weather the storm.Listening to Townes doing"Two Girls" right now.

  21. J.... P....

This is something. His face was a story itself. May he rest in peace..

  22. J.... B....

May he forever rest in peace.......

  23. W.... ....

"Resolutions floating freely in revolutions, swiftly passing awaiting to grasp.
Fixing without fixating, able to hope to be stable is enough to lay on the table .
Same situation with a similar picture then why do we feel the play needs to be recast ?
Sitting in the chair catching a familiar glare, another day of staring at the old maple.
Finished with reassessments, why make so many changes  if they really won't last?.........R.C.
Thanks. Rick western slope Co. Wichita Ks.

  24. W.... B....

    Stirs my soul!

  25. J.... H....

Art is an interesting thing, some debate it and sometimes nobody does because it goes without saying. TVZ is so wonderful that if anyone claims otherwise they come off sounding foolish.

    J.... H....

a man who had this much talent and passion for music deserved more credit and recognition. it truly is a shame that we r losing great musicains who write their own music. PEOPLE MAY NOT LIVE FOREVER BUT LEGENDS NEVER DIE

    J.... H....

    agreed...

    J.... H....

    Thats wonderful J Noll.
I imagine there are many of his works that you wouldnt dare play in front of your child. Just wanted to point out the depth of TVZ artistry.

    J.... H....

    Well said John

    J.... H....

That is my definition also--art makes you feel--

  26. k.... w....

    ENORMOUS!!

    Just great!

  31. t.... ....

    Beautiful

  32. B.... S....

"Living is dancing. Dying is doing nothing at all..."

  33. O.... ....

    Townes is so good.

    O.... ....

So great, so tender, so real.

  34. J.... ....

Having met and admired Townes for a few years, I still do some of his songs in my show. Guy Clark introduced me to Townes in the late 1960s. I will be forever grateful.... J.T.R.

    J.... ....

That's awesome! I would have loved to have gotten to meet Townes! Especially would've liked to have had the chance to hang out with him. He seemed like a good fellow, and from years of listening to his song's, I kinda feel as if I do know him. He is certainly one of the greatest songwriters of all time. (And I do mean in the top 2 or 3, if not the greatest!) Very few songwriters are on the same level of lyrics writing as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, but that's exactly where Townes is. He was for sure a legend..., a "songwriter's songwriter", and a true poet.

    J.... ....

Michael H. I'd say Cohen 1, Dylan maybe 2, tvz conceivably three but just conceivably. Fortunately for us there's plenty of competition.

    J.... ....

@Rs 225 I would have Townes right there with Cohen, but that's just my personal opinion. Paul Simon would probably make my top 5 list of lyric writers too.

    J.... ....

Yup. Graceland never ceases to amaze me. Let's agree to mostly agree :-)

    J.... ....

    @Rs 225 Agreed

  35. H.... S....

how can you not like/enjoy townes ?

  36. L.... P....

Mellow and melodic -- can it get any better than this?

  37. R.... Z....

  40. D.... C....

favorite Townes song.   yes, I listen while doing dishes, at the sink.  just wash up listening to Townes.  yes, the stars know it's time to shine.

    D.... C....

My favourite too. Well, this and To Live is to Fly...

    D.... C....

Reminds me of a line from a Townes song. "The old washer woman has finished her cleaning and gone"
"Quicksilver Daydreams Of Maria" One of the most beautiful songs ever.

  41. z.... ....

For some strange reason I'm closer in musical sense to Guy Clark than to Townes, but nevertheless...these boys are true greats. This song (and this version of song particularly!) is special to me.

  42. l.... t....

    M.... ....

Good job, youngblood. There is hope for our youth!

    M.... ....

Now that's the motherlode of victories. You don't need any more; Townes was the best. I saw him perform back in the early 1980s. Super glad that a new generation is discovering his talents.

    M.... ....

First of many i hope and a excellent choice for a name.

  51. M.... M....

it's originally from the recordings for the unrealesed "Seven Come Eleven" (so around 1974). An album that eventually appeared on CD as "The Nashville Sessions", but that CD is hard to get these days. I have a copy :)

    M.... M....

Is that where its from wow? He sounds younger

  52. S.... K....

    love it

  53. D.... T....

Bob Dylan begged Townes to play for him in his tour bus

  54. b.... ....

That's such a harrowing, amazing movie.
    Thanks for posting this.

  55. s.... ....

Townes being awesome all on his own brought me here.

  56. R.... T....

Dylan probably still listens to Townes.

  57. p.... ....

The version of the "Be Here to Love Me" documentary comes from "The Nashville Sessions" (recorded in 1973). "The Nashville Sessions" = a VERY good album, with better versions of the songs which are on "Flyin' Shoes" (and on "At My Window"). The arrangements are acurate, sparser...

  58. M.... C....

what, a writer? amazing. yea, not a fan of the production much either- too treble, overdone.

  59. B.... D....

Love townes van zandt but really dislike the production on his albums. His songs dont need to be backed up by all these instruments they're good enough as they are.

  60. A.... B....

just love Townes, feel blessed to have found his music

  61. K.... N....

he is heading to hell lol

  62. K.... N....

listen to john hutchinson one last kiss

  63. s.... ....

Well Dylan's album Times they are a changing is one of his primary influences along with Robert Johnson so think about that rabbit hole

  64. K.... N....

listen to john hutchinson one last kiss - last oulaw writer

  65. C.... M....

Thanks for all the responses everyone. For those curious, this particular track is off the Be Here To Love documentary soundtrack. There's some great live versions of some of his best songs and even some cool audio clip interviews. It's real favorite of mine.

  66. T.... ....

You Know, as much as I love Dylan...Oh Townes...I just fell backwards in my office chair.

  67. e.... ....

huge townes fan myself, and haven't heard this before. thanks for the post.

  75. B.... B....

@prober45 I'm pretty sure this guys songs are a whole hell of a lot deeper in meaning than Bob Dyan's.l

  76. C.... R....
