Van Zandt, Townes - Alone & Forsaken Lyrics
We met in the springtime when blossoms unfold
The pastures were green and the meadows were gold
Our love was in flower as summer grew on
Her love like the leaves now has withered and gone.
The birds in the morning don't sing anymore
The grass in the valley is starting to die
And out in the darkness the whippoorwills cry.
Alone and forsaken by fate and by man
Oh, lord, if you hear me please hold to my hand
Oh, please understand.
Oh, where has she gone to, oh, where can she be
She promised to honor, to love and obey
Each vow was a plaything that she threw away.
The darkness is falling, the sky has turned gray
A hound in the distance is starting to "bay"
I wonder, I wonder - what she's thinking of
Forsaken, forgotten - without any love.
Alone and forsaken by fate and by man

What album is this from? Or more information about the recording if anyone has it?
Infinitely better than the original.
Another treasure.
One of the best country singers for sure, this is how it's supposed to be, real and raw.

And beyond!
Cool song. Is it his?
The original one is by Hank Williams. However, in my opinion, this song's best version is Van Zandt's.
I love Townes as much as the next guy here. But I'd have to say Hank Williams does better. I like Townes version of Hanks cover Lost Highway more though.
Both amazing but hanks is a little better in my opinion
I like TVZs guitar better but i think hanks voice is better for this song.
You are looking for Hank Williams's version.
The last of us truck ambush trailer
Hank williams sings it
man this just hurts.
i was listening to his early stuff then loaded up this tune, and man.. it hit me like a semi truck. voice just tells the hard years the rambler has traveled. sigh.
I love you forever, wonderful Townes !!! Many thanks for your music from Rome, my Hero !!
This is PAINFUL to hear, but I keep playing it again. One thing Townes could do was reach into your soul, and this is a perfect example of that.
What a voice ! Fits perfectly to the lyrics.
јежење!!
every time i go to listen to townes music i find new songs i have never heard before. this song is just full of sorrow , he is without a doubt the best songwriter ever. Even when he covers other legendary songwriters song , he seems to get it spot on. wish he was still with us
No one cuts deeper than Van Zandt brother
Great job
So cool....so cool!
