Van Morrison - The Healing Game Lyrics

Here I am again
Back on the corner again
Back where I belong
Where I've always been
Everything the same
It don't ever change
I'm back on the corner again
In the healing game

Down those ancient streets
Down those ancient roads
Where nobody knows
Where nobody goes
I'm back on the corner again
Where I've always been
Never been away
From the healing game

Where the choirboys sing
Where I've always been
Sing the song with soul
Baby don't you know
We can let it roll
On the saxophone
Back street Jelly Roll
In the healing game

Where the homeboys sing
Sing their songs of praise
'Bout their golden days
In the healing game

Sing it out loud
Sing it in your name
Sing it like you're proud
Sing the healing game
Sing it out loud
Sing it in your name
Sing it like you're proud
Sing the healing game

Sing the healing game
Sing the healing game
Sing it in your name
Sing the healing game....

My music life would be poor without Van, this is my truth.
The first time I heard it and saw the film last waltz, I had 16 years ... that's when Van was boring, now he's my musical guru, he is my music therapy

  24. G.... m....

Tell me about "back street jelly roll". I'm old school, and I'd like anyone to define this.... Thank you!

    G.... m....

jelly roll Morton was one of vans favorite horn players.look up it falls into place.Glad to know you appreciate the music enough to want to under stand where it all starts!!!!

    G.... m....

I've read that a Jelly Roll is - apart from some confectionery - (initially) African American slang for the female genitalia. Jelly Roll Morton started playing in brothels and apparently this nick name of his started there.

    G.... m....

jelly roll morton was the man and the GREATEST believe me being 50 years ahead of his time
    regards

    G.... m....

    U heard right.

    G.... m....

Gee, this is news to me, I thought "Jelly Roll" Morton was known for his piano playing. Did even know that he played the sax.

  41. k.... ....

Wow...after struggling with addiction for years this has become my anthem. Down those ancient roads.....it is the healing game in that we recover when and only when we use our pain to help others....it's the healing game and now that heroin is so prevalent it's our responsibility to share our experience strength and hope to those who are in the madness. Thank god heroin wasn't around when I was out there. I would be dead.

    k.... ....

Lets just say, I've trod those steps.......and tried to play the Healing game...........hoping that, as a Dweller on the Threshold, the Healing has begun......

    k.... ....

    Sláinte

Where can I get this version?! iTunes and Spotify both don't have it. The version they have isn't near as good. Anybody who knows please let me know! :)

    Z.... ....

get in on the healing game CD

    Z.... ....

Are you referring to the version with John Lee Hooker?

    Z.... ....

@madcapper6 nope, I'm referring to the version being played in this video

    Z.... ....

@Zach Manfredi I was asking which version is it that's on Spotify or iTunes that you were referring to? I was wondering if that version was the duet he did with John Lee Hooker. That's the only other version of this song I've heard besides this one.

  47. T.... U....

He is NOT a witness, someone in his family was though... I was scared there for a while, hehe. He has said on the Don Imus show that he's an atheist, which makes sense... His music is so open and free, he's not locked to one religion or one way of thinking.

  48. D.... C....

Van ain't an atheist, I think that he is a Jehovah witness...I'm glad that artists like Van and Bob Dylan aren't atheist because they produce great music thanks to their beliefs, for example take a look at Slow Train Coming from Bob Dylan. As a catholic, Bob Dylan's songs and Van Morrison's songs have help me to keep believing. I'm sure the you'll love Dylan's and Morrison's religious songs, greetings ;)

  49. T.... ....

Every song doesn't have to end up or be about any-one's religion.....Enjoy Van ,and interpret each and everyone of them, the way you choose to... :D

  50. b.... r....

I don't know for a fact, but I believe he is NOT an atheist. Thanks Nora, be well.

  51. n.... O....

thats van the hard working man

  52. n.... O....

bill is van an atheist i wonder my name is nora and i likek your comment

  53. b.... r....

This song has been as close as this atheist will ever get to thinking there might be a god.....this song has been my version of the "foot steps in the sand" ' parable.

When there were only one set of footsteps, it was The Healing Game carrying me through.....I am Irish....this song buried itself fathoms deep the very first time I heard it...simply.....IT RESONATES....peace...Bill [email protected]

  54. Y.... l....

  60. M.... ....

THE VERSION OF THIS SONG WITH JOHN LEE HOOKER AND VAN IS EVEN BETTER!

  61. S.... P....

He IS and ALWAYS will be my favorite artist.

  62. j.... ....

Just know that no matter who leaves you, God is always there. you are in my prayers.

  63. B.... D....

People check out this cd just has the most wonderful music you will ever hear. Van rocks. Roll on Marlay Park Dublin 25.08.12

  64. L.... M....

    acoustics matter

  65. I.... W....

That makes sense. When i saw Van it was at a place very much as you describe the Marley concert in 72. .I saw Dylan in 76 in Landover MD at a sports arena and the sound was horrible. It was so disappointing. I have sense seen Dylan at a couple of small venues and the sound was great.I haven't really considered how important it is to see these artist in the right place where the sound is good. But after reading some of these comments,it makes all the difference.

  66. L.... M....

It was the place not Van that sucked - the Target center in Minneapolis has VERY BAD acoustics, Best concert I have ever been to was Bob Marley 1972 at very small acoustically perfect auditorium. (Northrup Auditorium).

  67. m.... ....

    thankyou you made smile

  68. I.... W....

Wow,I saw these two together in Boston during that time period and I have to say it was the best i have ever been to. The sound was top quality. It seems to bother people that he doesn't speak to the crowd much if at all.Being a Bob Dylan fan(my favorite) I am use to that. I go to hear the tunes and would rather not hear or engage in conversation. When I say it was the best I have ever been to.I meant concerts not just Van Morrison concerts.

  69. P.... R....

i know for myself, i have to begin to first try to heal myself and what i ve gone though in the last 14 months, which has destroyed me and killed me in many ways, cause of a dear gal, kitty...damn....i miss u and if it would have worked , in a few months, married again, for both of us...instead, just for u ..damn.but good luck sweetie..u more than deserve it...miss, love and will never forget u,,.x0..bye kitty...pete

  70. C.... B....

    Only perfect.

  71. M.... C....

    Me encanta Van Morrison.

  72. S.... ....

    Me too ..

  73. L.... M....

Actually I saw him in the early 90s when he toured with John Lee Hooker. I recall that the ticket was $75 and although it was a fairly good vantage point the acoustics were horrible. All in all I would have been better off spending the money on CDs. But I HAD to see him.

  74. S.... S....

This song sums up my mood today.

  75. L.... M....

I love him but would rather listen to him than watch him. Powerful healing sound!
