Tricky - Brand New You're Retro Lyrics

We know, yes, we know
It's my ego on fantastic
But still, you're fuckin' with my plastic
Dedicated, medicated
They bend and break me, overrate me
I take a small piece, make it breathe
It takes a second to wreck it
Sucka niggas won't believe
They stress me, test me, vex me
So what, you got a gun?
That shit don't impress me
Yes, yes, you always walk with the crew
You're a motherfucker 'cause you're not alone
If you don't think I'm a brother, then check my chromosome
Brand new, you're retro
I already passed you on a one-two
I've been cued to this already
Bullet to the head
Bullet to the head, what you know I's joking?
What the fuck you doin'?
You gonna represent my intention?
You need more than a mic and a mention
Through the scars you see bars
Through the bars you see scars, results of my rage

Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro

Scared to skip and step in case you trip and fall
Thunder picks you up, slaps you on the wall
That's maniacal, I cuff through my manacle
Mechanical and super-natty
Love is not talk, I walk on by
Exotic spices
If your mouth can't tame the meaning
Be careful of the faces you're seeing
A dread of the past and fear of the future
That's maniacal, I cuff through my manacle
Mechanical and super-natty

Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro

Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro

Bullet to the head, what you know I's joking?
What the fuck you doin'?
You'll never represent my intention
You need more than a mic and a mention
Through the scars you see bars
Through the bars you see scars, results of my rage

Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro

Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro

Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro

Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro
Brand new, you're retro

Trip Hop is what R&B Should Have Been, but never happened.

Tricky another ahead of his time, misunderstood guy

    P.... ....

Agreed. Trip Hop was innovative. What we hear now is largely garbage.

    P.... ....

So timeless and more apparent now than ever!

    P.... ....

Ed Jessup that edgy, 90's loving, "I'm so different from everyone else" mentality is why Trip hop isn't flourishing like it should -_-

    P.... ....

There isn't enough good trip hop to fill hours and hours of radio/spotify's programming needs. R&B didn't start out being shit, it got that way because having a bottomless trove of cookie-cutter music is the only way the music industry can turn a profit. Why would triphop somehow be immune from this effect?

  15. l.... ....

    fuckin wild, groovy bass line

  16. K.... B....

same horn sample in souls of mischief 93 woop WOOP!

  17. C.... ....

This goes out to everyone that thinks Trip Hop. turntables, samples, electronic in general is 'new music'. Maybe the approach was new and novel when I was in high school. It's like the kids who woke up to Alternative Rock in the 90s and acted like they'd never heard a guitar or drums before...

    The more things change...

Oh well. About time people started catching up. I thought I'd missed the boat - when I started listening to Tricky in the late 90's...

  18. d.... ....

@Ygreeq he's talking about the piss sound

  21. M.... ....

    best ever

  22. R.... M....

lovely Michael Jackson sample. Odd how people have abandoned Tricky now that Saul Williams is around. And how his music aged versus the new wave revival trend nowadays or the born again blues & bossa nova fans that Portishead gets.
