Townshend, Pete - Jools And Jim Lyrics

Anyone can have an opinion
Anyone can join in and jump
Anyone can pay or just stay away
Anyone can crash and thump

But did you read the stuff that Julie said?
Little Jimmy with his hair dyed red?
They don't give a shit Keith Moon is dead
Is that exactly what I thought I read?

Typewriter tappers
You're all just crappers
You listen to love with your intellect
A4 pushers
You're all just cushions
Morality ain't measured in a room
He wrecked

Anyone can by some leather
Ain't no better than wearing sheep
Anyone can sell lucky heather
You can see that words are cheap

But did you read the stuff that Julie said?
Or little Jimmy with his hair dyed red?
They have a standard of perfection there
That you and me can never ever share

Typewriter bangers on
You're all just hangers on
Everyone's human 'cept Jools and Jim
Late copy churners
Rock and roll learners
Your heart's are melting in pools
Of gin

But I know for sure that if we met up eye to eye
A little wine would bring us closer, you and I
'Cause you're right, hypocrisy will be the death of me
And there's an I before E when your spelling ecstasy
And you, you two

Did you hear the stuff that Krishna said?
Or know for you that Jesus' blood was shed?
Is it in your heart or in your head?
Or does the truth lie in the centre spread?

Anyone can have an opinion
Anyone can join in and jump
Anyone can pay or just stay away
Anyone can crash and thump

Oklahoma
Oklahoma
Oklahoma, O.K.

Townshend, Pete Jools And Jim Comments

    ((-: !

  2. r.... ....

I had no idea there was a story behind the song. Incredible.

  3. P.... J....

Julie Birchill was one of those morons the NME hired during the Punk era who contradicted and embarrassed herself constantly- in fact the word journalist is used loosely. She once got sued for calling someone ugly which was ironic as she really wasn't anything to look at in any sense. There are people who constantly have opinions on matters they are proven to know nothing about and she was a prime example. Her diary of nonsense makes Diane Abbott look like a Greek philosopher. Song sums her up totally

Awesome ! Pete is the best!

  5. v.... ....

"They have a standard of perfection there, that you and me can never, ever share."
Sounds like journalists never change, do they?

  6. J.... N....

The greatest song writer that ever > lived.

  7. J.... L....

No modern rock band or singer is producing rock like this or anything Pete Townshend has ever done....with this energy, creativity, enthusiasm or vocal attack. None.

@ John LaStrada Yep you're right John...

    J.... L....

    Townshend = musical genius

  8. 9.... ....

    the story of Keith Moon

  9. G.... L....

Love the bridge to this song. Made me curious about the film Jules et Jim.

    G.... L....

It's terrible, like most French movies.

  10. J.... M....

    Yeah!

  11. O.... ....

Best solo album of his ever! Falsetto was rocking!

  12. S.... -....

Pete was right to be angry. Those two were making good money and names for themselves out of saying cruel, stupid things about Keith's death. Why not be angry? Why not tell them what complete tossers they were being?
    Birchill still is.

  13. L.... ....

I love the Oklahoma at the end but have no idea what it means, anyone?

    L.... ....

OK is a gossip mag in England.

    L.... ....

"Jools" is Julie Burchill, and "Jim" is Tony Parsons.

    L.... ....

@ LightenUpMcgraw 5 years later I'll say I think he meant they should cover theatre, not rock..

    L.... ....

Maybe he was referring to the fact that critics initially blasted the play Oklahoma! but it had one of the longest runs in history and is now considered to be a classic.

  14. G.... C....

Didn't realize it, but suspected....it all makes sense

  15. M.... ....

Whooligans take note, drummerdevil98 is correct! Those two were Julie Burchill and Tony Parsons so Pete wrote "They don't give a shit Keith Moon is dead
Is that exactly what I thought I read? Typewriter tappers/You're all just crappers/Everyone's human 'cept Jools and Jim/Late copy churners/Rock and Roll learners/Your heart's are melting in pools of gin…" Petes best defense for Keith:" You're all just cushions/Morality ain't measured in a room he wrecked."

  16. D.... ....

Such an under rated Album, and song.......only 167 hits!!!
