Townsend, Devin - Canada Lyrics
The road
It's home
At least for now, the river's low
Wake me, please wake me
All the time I needed your approval to be me
All that time spent waiting for the jury duty
More than ever I needed Mora
More than Mora means
Be whatever you must be to get by
It's oil, it's wheat, it's soil, it's meat
It's beef!
Wake me, please wake me
When it's my turn to drive
Only the lonely (and maybe John Denver) know the Canadian freeway

Townsend, Devin Canada Comments
This makes me love Canada despite never stepping foot there.
My top three Devy albums has to be 1: Ocean Machine - Biomech. 2: Terria. 3: Accelerated Evolution. Terria and Ocean Machine are both so good so each time i listens to each, i think that the one i am listening to at the moment are my favorite. A bit the same with Accelerated Evolution. Sadly he doesn´t make them like that anymore, but still awesome though, i loved Empath aswell as most of the DTP stuff.
This is a masterpiece
Happy Canada Day, everybody!
Yo Happy Canada Day from Texas!
The little bit about the 'bird that didn't have a mom and dad' comes back on 'Sprite' from Empath!
Excellent spot, I was literally just coming here to mentally confirm that this was where I'd heard that before!
Hey, French Devin's fans - HELP me with French outro (from 6 min. 40 sec. and at the begining of "Down and under", the next rack). It sounds like quote from some Canadian radio. The female voice and it's in French... What it's all about? Help (S'il te plaît)!
"something something something (pretty indecernible) ...L'assemble Nationale, Le premier ministre s'est dis désolé que des jeunes s'opposent a l'ouverture des frontieres. Le premier ministre du Québec..." end here
"...The parliement, The PM claimed he was sorry that young people where opposed to Open Borders. The Prime minister of Quebec..."
Theres nothing special about the biginning of Down and Under tbh since it fades out real fast. I always wondered about this sample and why dev used it that way. Ill ask him one day in an interview.
Hi Bro! I'm Ivan from Slovenia. I'm a big fan of Devin Townsend and I want to make the whole 100% complete lyrics of all his albums. So THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Tarria is my favourite Dev's album ever! But, please, can you hear the begining of this speach from 6-40, I guess you can recognize more words? French is so beautiful language, but all I know is just a cup of words... Please, I'll be waiting from you soon! Kind regards!
I just gave the most thumbs up ever on a youtube page, I love finding supportive and wholesome areas of youtube. DEVY<3
Devin Townsend brings out the best in people
666 likes. I don't even dare to put my thumb up
Happy Canada Day!
why hasn't this been made your guys' new anthem?
Oh Yeah CANADA, en plus à la fin on parle du QUEBEC ! hahaha i love this guy !
Some road,
It's home,
At least for now, the rivers low
Wake me, please wake me,
It's cold and warm on the prairie freeway
All the time I needed your approval to be me
All that time spent waiting for the jury duty
More than ever I needed Mora
More than Mora means
Be whatever you must be to get by, get by
It's oil (get by, get by, get by, get by)
It's wheat (get by, get by, get by, get by)
It's soil (get by, get by, get by, get by)
It's meat (get by, get by, get by, get by)
It's beef
Some road,
It's home,
The mountain high, river low...
Wake me, please wake me,
When it's my turn to drive
Only the lonely
And maybe John Denver knows the Canadian freeway.
Pretty sure it's "the road is home", it's quite a common phrase
Really... I thought they'd be more substantial than that but the soul is in the lyrics no less
Whis Mora?
It's oil!
It's wheat!
It's soil!
It's meat!
IT'S BEEF!!!
Proud to be Canadian
I always thought this song sounded like the best song that Def Leppard never made. Perfected their sound.
#Canada150
Happy Canada Day!
4:19 so powerful
Goddamn, I keep forgetting how much I love this album so much. Ocean Machine, Terria, Ziltoid, Deconstruction, Ghost, Casualties especially are masterpieces!
This is absolutely one of his best songs but starting from 3:55 there is a background loop not syncronized.
HELP! Who can check the Slow Motion part (from 2-10)?
It goes like: “(Once upon a time, in a little tiny tree with the naps pallet, lived a bird.
And the bird didn't have a mom and dad)” Am I right? Not sure about "naps pallet".
The same full quote (in normal speed, spoken by kid) can be found in outro from “Detox (demo 96)”.
Once upon a time, in a little tiny tree with a nest in it, there lived a bird and the bird didn't have a mom and dad.
Makes me damn proud to be Canadian!
I like that it's got a critical tone, but still somehow you can tell he wouldn't want to live somewhere else.
Im not Canadian and I still feel proud to be Canadian !
This!!!!! ^^^^ National pride so rare these weird days
Wow, such an achievement.
its that time of year again :)
True man!
What time was it?
Earth Day + Deep Peace + Canada + Down and Under = best sequence of songs ever laid down in an album, 27 minutes 45 seconds of pure bliss... For it be perfect it would had to have Nobody's Here ending instead of The Fluke
I'm not denying those songs are a great sequence. However...I think these four were his crowning achievements: Pixillate + Judgement + A Simple Lullaby + Sunset. He was in another dimension when he wrote those beauties.
Yeah when I wrote this comment I didn't know Synchestra yet, what a masterpiece of an album (I still don't like The Fluke... but I'm abnormal because I also was never hooked on "Away" from Accelerated Evolution, what hooked me to that album was everyone's last decision: "Traveler")
While a great sequence I have to say Funeral - Bastard - The Death of Music - Things Beyond Things from Ocean Machine is the best :)
I agree that one of the few complaints I have with Terria are the way the tracks are layered. Mountain for exemple is pretty mediocre compared to the section that comes after. Same for the Fluke. I like Terria but the setlist feels kinda weird to me... Always had, still does. Incredible godlike record anyways, like pretty much 99% of devins Discography (30 albums or someshit whadevs!)
I'd rather end the playlist with Tiny Tears, but that's just me. :)
DEVIN TOWNSEND
This album is a manifestation of Spring, yearning to know what Summer is like.
I get very spring/summery vibes, summery vibes especially from this song
How can one man churn out BOTH of my two favourite albums ever?? I honestly think terria and ocean machine are as close to perfect as albums come
I like Infinity better than Ocean Machine, but that's just my opinion. Terria is definitely amazing though
+InfernalRaven hmm that's interesting, that's a rare opinion but I can kinda see where you're coming from
Nothing touches this tune. Deadhead? maybe maybe
And Funeral through Death of Music, definitely.
This is his Magnum Opus, imo. This song is simply like nothing else when you're in the right mood. God like music, god liunke vocals and melody make this very underrated song
I agree this is absolutely one of his best songs, 3:27 to 3:55 is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my life
Happy Canada Day, folks
What does it mean Mora guys ?
I would like to know this also.
Waiting here to Know...I follow Devin on Twitter so maybe I can A2A him
I forgot which AMA with him that I read where he answered that, but he said that he doesn't really know himself. His best guess is 'Earth Mother'. He did answer it, though.
I feel like this song could heal the Earth. This song.......Wow.........
Happy Canada Day!
3:28 almost had me in tears. That part always gets me
I can relate so much
@Tyler Kemp IIIIT's OIL!!! It's WHHHEATTTT It's SOYYYYYOOHHLL(soil)... It's MEAAAAAATT!!
@Filet mignon isn't this album just one of the best to sing along to ever? E.g. "RECYCLE!!!" "SO MANY HOURS (HOURS) WITH MEDICATIONS AND THE DOOOOOOG (WOAHHHHH!!!)" "beautiful but it DON'T DO SHIT FOR MEEE" etc.
WeWantYouToStay hey I'm a 60/70 blues Allman bros Black Sabbath fan can you suggest stuff like this I know Porcupine Tree n a few others thanks
@Wayne Rolfe unfortunately dude you will never find another song even remotely like this track, it's from another world. First of all I would suggest listening to Devin's entire discography, starting with Ocean Machine. And then if you like artists like Devin and Porcupine Tree I think you would enjoy Opeth (Blackwater Park is the album that most people get into them with) and also possibly Gojira, though they're a bit heavier. In terms of artists that sound like Devin, David Maxim Micic is probably the best and the only one that doesn't really rip him off (Bilo 3 is his best album). In terms of atmospheric metal as a whole my favourite band would probably be Alcest (Ecailles de Lune) or Agalloch (the Mantle). If you want anything more specific let me know!
<- From Finland. Should be Canada's national anthem.
<---- From Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I agree! PS I love finland!
<---- From Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. DITTO!
Suomi Finland perkele! Torilla tavataan!
Devin is love, Devin is life <3
<--- From National Anthem and this should be Canada.
Great DEVIN music postcard for Canada. Love it !
Canada has the best national anthem ever.
Happy Canada day
happy canada day all
Sucks to be you because it's a great track.
Boring and completely uninspirational. I thought there would be a real song, and am disappointed.
Trans Canada Highway
I couldn't agree with you more!!!!
You can hear the original version at the end of the demo version of Strapping Young Lad's Detox ;)
i am mexican, and i WILL live in Canada C:
I need to end my streak of missed opportunities to see Devin live.
Or maybe he cried because of how emotionally awesome it is?
maybe he was laughi9ng so hard he cried
did you actually cry or are you just trying to get likes...
Listened to it over and over! Glad I could help! Peace my friend.
Great song......not sure about the goofy voice thing...but that's devin
i was saying that as a joke :P
His sense of humor may not be your thing.
warning...retarded bit at 2:13
couldntthinkofayoutubename megz lol
How do you know this? I've always wondered what it said! Thanks! :)
this should be our national anthem.."it's oil,it's wheat,it's soil,it's meat,it's beef" so much catchier
Happy Canada Day to our Canadian friends!
Canada Day weekend friends!!!!!! :D :D :D Even if you're not Canadian I hope you have a good weekend too! =)
Amazing track, devin's a beast. beautiful country BTW
A Devin classic. One of those tunes that will touch you to the bone and leave you with tears in your eyes.
5:19 !!!!
Ive never felt so proud to be Canadian.
A memory never forgotten... you do us proud!!
for some reason forgot that Devin was not only from Canada but the city I live in :P so proud
i'm from canada and i approve this song
@drgonzo1985
Totally agree with you, man!
Epic, epic and epic! This song is the most "William Wallace" song's ever!
Cried with you and every time at 2:36 onwards. This song...........this fucking song.......
Terria: Devin Townsend's Magnum Opus.
@guysapire If anyone could be paradoxically greater then himself ...it would be Devin.
epic song
THat FUcking Begining Riff!! Spectacular!!!!!
this should be the Canadian national anthem
I like it when artists who embrace heavy music compose like this. I see it as a take on a style of music, except superior in every way to most others trying to create in this style because of the metal influence and overwhelming creativity, even if it may only play a subliminal part. The downtuning and the sound they got out of the kick drum makes this so nice to listen to. Excellent how the drums are sitting out of the mid-range frequencies, allowing the guitars and synth to breathe in stereo
@pumlin1 yeah - youtube is not the best place to listen to devin's music - need a good quality mp3 (or better yet - the actual album!) and a good pair of headphones.
@dieinafirenrot Don't be afraid to be a cheeseball. ;]
Umm, beginning 3:28 is the best part. Great song, great album - even if some of the lyrics and musical choices are a little cheesy and hokey. The soundscapes he creates are just pure win.
Happy Canada day everyone.
HAPPY CANADA DAY FOLKS!
@Pellefather I feel the same way about Deconstruction and Ghost. I just think about all the music has still yet to make - and that is something to look forward to, indeed!
It kind of makes me sad that Devin has left this type of music behind him. The beauty of the wall of sound.. Deconstruction is too crazy for me, I haven't even had the patience to listen to one song thoroughly yet.. Fortunately I love Ghost though. I wish he would do an album like this again.. Terria is pure beauty.
This album is its whole decades finest moment.
YES YES YES CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He makes me SO proud to be Canadian.
Devin Townsend is my inspiration for my Canada wide road trip. Cheers Dev.
It's oil
It's wheat
It's soil
It's meat
...it's beef!
Devin thank you for being truely awesome.
never heard of dev before...
clicked random on 4chan and there he was...:)
What lucky coincidence !
This song is like a comfy blanket for me. xox *snuggles*
2:18 fucking ruins everything, but afterwords is ok
One awesome thing about this album is that he uses heaps of samples to back the music which gives its heaps of dimension. (kinda hard to pick up on youtube quality). I had the pleasure of meeting devin in australia. I can't wait to check out canada!
-dev's canada = one of his best songs, EVER!
Well, this song certainly kicks ass.
Dev >God
I've met my twin.
