Toto After You've Gone Comments
  1. J.... C....

    Sexy just sexy

  2. J.... W....

    Great! ...Beatle-esque!

  3. d.... e....

Never knew this song existed until a few minutes ago.

Wow. I could listen to this for an hour or more.

I know I'm gonna generate a lot of flack, here, so save it... but, in a surprising way I could hear this as a Winger tune. Surprising similarities in writing and arrangement style.

  4. m.... j....

1:10 kinda sounds like alice in chains

  5. R.... O....

una canción mucho muy relajada, preciosa como todas las melodias de toto

  6. H.... ....

I use this song for demo-ing stereos.

  7. M.... J....

The vocals especially at the refrains are sound extremely good. It reminds me of the Beatles. I can go back to those parts and keep listening to it.

  8. R.... M....

Great fucking won't great album so is tambu

  9. I.... ....

This would have been a huge hit if Toto had handed it off to another artist. Maybe Justin Timberlake? Such a great tune.

  10. R.... M....

    Amazing great live too

  11. W.... P....

    Sumpahhhh,,,gua suka bingitttttt

  12. D.... ....

    Perfect chord progression

  13. M.... M....

    You're just a mile away
One thousand five tiny steps from here
But if I brought you near
Would you believe when I say
    It seems like yesterday
That I could reach out and touch your face
But as I fall from grace
Into whose arms can I lay

    It's always much too late
    We get the signs
    We can't communicate
    Or turn back time

    [Chorus:]
    So what will be now
    Do you feel somehow
Not so together and not quite as strong
    Now I believe
Alone doesn't have to mean lonely
    After you've gone

    I need a healing wind
To cool the flame burning in my sight
    It must accelerate
For two wrongs they don't make a right

And all these solitaires, lone victories
Wars fought in isolation, with none to please

    [Chorus]

    [Instrumental break]

    The future's still uncertain
    The past is done

    [Chorus]

    Now I believe
Alone doesn't have to mean lonely
    After you've gone

    Now I believe
Alone doesn't have to mean lonely
    After you've gone

Has Toto ever performed After You're Gone live?

    D.... P....

Not that I know of. They had a few songs like that. Shame too, a lot of those were really good.

    S.... ....

    Most of the 2007/8 shows.

    S.... ....

Of course ! The Jean Michael Byron stuff.

    S.... ....

@Michael David That's my favorite song from Toto IV! How dare you?!

    S.... ....

SpyBomber64 good question. . but if ever there's one, would we really consider it as a question..? to me it would be more of an affirmation and adulation than a query..!

  39. K.... ....

Mike Porcaro also played the cellos here. Wonderful song

  40. r.... ....

reminds me of Alan Parsons Project

    r.... ....

    It feels the A.P.P adn.

  41. R.... B....

Thank you O Lord for the lives and wonderful music of the Porcaro brothers and the talents they shared with us.Below is a link I found to a documentary being made on the Porcaro brothers with interview from Steve and the others. It is entitled "Porcaro-A Band of Brothershttps://www.indiegogo.com/projects/porcaro-a-band-of-brothers#/

  42. m.... p....

no doubt that toto style is absolutly different from any other band. They are really good musicians. We always talk about paul macartney and John lennon, but theses Stev, jeff, David are much better like compositors and of course like musician required for any star in the world.

    m.... p....

    Well said :-)

    m.... p....

Agreed, I get so f-ing tired of that guy.

    m.... p....

+@Mistrz Patelachy Joseph Willimas isn't as good as Bobby Kimball at his early years but he had participate at two of the best Toto albums. So he isn't tallentless. And Kimball became so bad that he is prefered to anyone else when the group has resurected.
In fact Toto has always good the singers for every of all their songs. Few of them weren't assimilated by the group (Fergie, Jean-Michel) others were the group. You can't denie that Williams is good because he stay friend with the members even when he went away. His accordence whith Lukather made him a very good and apreciated singer.

    m.... p....

I admit that his solo carrer wasn't too good, but he was always pulled up by Toto and the melting of his voice with the group's music was perfect.
Now, he may be an asshole, but I don't know his intimity ;o)

    m.... p....

Toto are amazing, love them!! But no, sorry thy are not better than lennon & McCartney ie beatles.

  43. M.... H....

I've always loved the ending. Also, R.I.P. Mike Porcaro! :(

  44. M.... M....

    GREAT SONG!!!!!!!

  45. t.... m....

    Good bye Mike :/

    t.... m....

    @truli maluli ;(

  46. j.... m....

Good, nice, beautiful song,I can keep listening this song several times and always I hear new sounds in this song.

    j.... m....

juncamar marti Exactly.. Toto has masterfully developed a musical style no other band in the world can replicate.. and talking about a new instrumental sound every time you listen to their songs again, try SOMEWHERE TONIGHT.. there's a new percussion sound every time i listen to it..!

  47. T.... H....

Here's what Luke says on this one: "There was one track that Elliot Scheiner engineered — a song called “After You’ve Gone,” on an album called Mindfields [1998]. That particular track had a great mix with a lot of shit going on. It wasn’t a big hit single or anything like that, but it was nominated for a Grammy. The sound quality on that song is amazing. ["Gone" features a cool stereo-panned percussive intro, and its final 90 seconds find the swirling beat of "Strawberry Fields Forever" crossed with the marching jam of "Are You Experienced," all served up with Middle Eastern guitar figures to boot—MM]" - Excerpt from Steve Lukather Intreview By Mike Mettler • Posted: Jul 23, 2014

    T.... H....

    Wow!! Thanks 4 dat.

    T.... H....

So that only Russian sleighbells and Tibetan flutes were missing.... Frankly, I've never analysed this song to that extend, it simply sounds amazingly good, it deserved to have been a hit, even if it sounds less engaging as lets say Stop loving you. The Outfield too made lots of references to the Beatles, including Strawberry fields.

    T.... H....

God, I so agree....I've been analyzing this song for the past few days....what I wouldn't do to hear it live! When my tone deaf husband hears Strawberry Fields Forever, I know there's something to it! =D

  48. k.... j....

Very Beatles influenced for sure. with that very distinct Steve Lukather Vocal

  49. C.... ....

    love that album cover

  50. E.... M....

    Heavily Beatles influenced track.

  51. J.... M....

This song reminds me of Aussie legend the late great Matt Moffat in his solo career after the Matt Finish years.

  52. S.... M....

Love to say but I have always loved the album cover

  53. s.... ....

hate to say it but I always hated the album cover

  54. L.... ....

Lukather sings this one (Kimball just on background vocals).
    PS: sei italiano?

  55. w.... j....

/toto is one of the most overlooked rock bands of the 20th century. The members were more like brothers than just bandmates and together they make awesome music. Although they lost a key member, they continue to carry on the music and beliefs of their band, in memory of Mr Jeff Porcaro

  56. K.... B....

    énorme

  57. r.... ....

try and listen to this song in the morning after sunrise in a plane at 36.000 ft...Unique experience!!!
    Toto rules!!!!

  58. K.... ....

Toto. The most underrated band to ever have existed. They are so much more talented than this world gives them credit for.

    K.... ....

Not underrated. Everybody who is so called music-person thinks Toto is a great band

    K.... ....

@Henri Flink Because of Africa and Hold the Line, but not for albums like Tambu, Mindfields, or Kingdom of Desire. Toto is seriously underrated, seeing that artists like the Beatles, Queen, or Bowie are so much more well known and their names are plastered anywhere discussing great artists. Toto is virtually unknown when it comes to rock.
