Tori Amos - Spark Lyrics

She's addicted to nicotine patches
She's addicted to nicotine patches
She's afraid of the light in the dark
6:58 are you sure where my spark is
Here
Here
Here

She's convinced she could hold back a glacier
But she couldn't keep Baby alive
Doubting if there's a woman in there somewhere
Here

You say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
You say you don't want it
This circus we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it
if the Divine master plan is perfection
Maybe next I'll give Judas a try
Trusting my soul to the ice cream assassin
Here

You say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
You say you don't want it
This cirucs we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it
How may fates turn around in the overtime
Ballerinas that have fins that you'll never find
You thought that you were the bomb yeah
Well so did I
Say you don't want it
Say you don't want it
Say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
Say you don't want it
This circus we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it

She's addicted to nicotine patches
She's afraid of the light in the dark
6:58 are you sure where my spark is
Here

One of the best songs ever in the history of Rock by one of the most fundamental and influential ARTISTS of all time hasn’t reached a million views yet?? 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

    2020 anyone?

  6. B.... M....

Thumbs up if u remember when MTV refused to play this (or only played it late at night) because of the car explosion.......

    B.... M....

Really? Didn't know that. Then again MTV refused to play Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" when it was first released. MTV always has been a set of knobbers. The car explosion thing seems bizarre though I never heard of that being MTV ban-worthy.

    B.... M....

What? Maybe in the US... MTV Europe definitely played it throughout the day, but then MTV Europe never banned songs.

  7. E.... H....

Man, some people not only reach their potential, they reach humanity's potential. Well done, Ms. Tori.

  13. E.... F....

The blondes at the end are obviously Cornflake Girls.

  14. N.... N....

I think that she did this to herself and not in the way that I think you'd assume I meant. In the video I mean. She believes she did this to herself. Accidentally..

    N.... N....

That's why those girls won't help her

  15. P.... H....

Does somebody can explain the story of this song ?  I am french and I don't understand all !  I think it's about a kidnapped and hurted girl.  Thanks !

    P.... H....

    P.... H....

I'm sorry, but I don't see the connection between this video and a miscarriage….

  38. L.... V....

  55. R.... B....

I would say thanks first, then say she had the courage to go out on a limb and do something different than anyone else. Quite the artist. Blazing a path fresh and new. And most of all drop dead gorgeous. Just like her face, beautiful. I have heard wonderful piano and fine lyrics. Thank you Tori for all the emotions and wonderful sound. I love you and your music. Take care and live long.

  67. B.... M....

Also, I lost a pregnancy due to a very abuseive situation. I feel this song connects with ‘silent all these years.’ You dread having a tie to your abuser, but you also still grief a loss when it’s over. I didn’t even know the pregnancy or miscarriage happened until my horemones went haywire for months after. I did not want kids with me rapist, of course, but I never wanted to lose a child. Either way, it would have been awful. But, the ‘spark’ of hope is that when it happens, you are no longer bound to someone (how many dates turn around in the overtime...). I still can’t believe that mainstream radio went from this to crap written at a 2nd grade level, that tells no story and has no core, in just two decades. People think I hate pop music. I hate the shit that’s around today. If you go through them something earth shattering, you can never relate to bubblegum, surface value love/break up/clubbing songs again. There were other songs about very heavy topics on mainstream radio, then. Even the ‘happy songs’ had a message and feeling.

  68. B.... M....

This video!!! The end, where she gets them the car, shows them that she’s bed kidnapped and tied up, and they just look at each other and drive away! It truly captures what it’s like going through a trauma. You come through so much on your own, and then you need help to go further, and so many people just choose to say ‘not my problem.’ After the third or forth time someone makes you think they’ll help, but then puts their own trauma-free existence before your needs, when they drove away after stopping, or call to ask ‘what’s going on,’ but then say ‘this is like, too much for me’ when you tell them. I remember thinking the dress bee was such an awful person when I was in middle school and this was new. Now I understand it too clearly.

    B.... M....

The way they were depicted seemed as though they knew it was important for her to make the rest of the journey on her own, to unbind her hands (creativity) and work through the trauma in the unique way only she can, nobody... not even an "angel" can unbind what you have sown for the journey into florescence. Besides, the video makes it clear there is a supernatural "assistance" guiding her, somehow even in a fall below the water protected on the path, and her trust even blinded and bound got her to the road for the next stage. 💖

    B.... M....

@Macronomicus escape! Unbind!, a vacant woods! Sound like there might be a metaphor here somewhere.

  69. S.... C....

This video, for some reason - its my go to when there is something going on in my life. This video communicates to an unhealed and traumatic place within me, but the video and song both allow this place in me to have a safe place to speak. So I go to this video, when I need to allow the wounds to heal, and the pain to feel. It speaks to places in me that feel trapped, and kidnapped of my freedom. I see myself as the person fleeing from captors and emotional vampires. I see myself as the one who has the strength to fight back, but doesn't have an ally at all times. This video ... its OK to go there sometimes.

  70. B.... B....

There Is No Escape not for real, but escape is overrated anyway. The only way to go through life is to live it and experience, it no Escape.

  73. J.... C....

SKEETER? Skeeters were sold were advetised. "Do you know where my spare keys are?" Culture. Morality conversational culture. Different culture came out in conversation cited in the lyriscs. Pins on jacket manquets, owl pins, the watch. Not produced in here. 14th century now. Worn also in 13th century if you time travel. It has progressed, the century. Still same suit fashion. It is not in fact time travel, ST, space travel, land travel, enclave with different culture in our 21st century, called Mormons, culture of mormons quoted in lyrics, culture of Mormons, they use a different date, different calendar, and they are the actual only existing 13/14th century. Enclave with different century date. The world is very young. Our 21st century date is also staged. Everybody in all land enclaves live in a staged calendar. World is circa 1000 year old. One thousand. Note, that space travel means normal land travel, Area travel. Not some cosmic travel. Communistic SS made this horrible scientific crime and damaged reputations of people for their using words "space travel". area travel is space travel. to get to 14th century you need to just travel through roads of our contemporary areas.
Woman in car has no make-up. Neither of them. Not probable in 21st century area unless my own video, which means unless a home not-mafiac video. This is a mafiac video. Song was stolen from Tori by mafia, lyrics partially changed, mostly cut-out. Old cars, non-existing nowadays. Old benzine. Old type of explosion, not happens in 21st century.
Label on a dress on a back, never on a back nowadays. Label on the back of clothes in the middle. See-through clothes, strange clothes. Possibly given to Tori to put on her own clothes so that she wouldn't look strange.
Skeeters are sweets produced by Mormons, known fact it was. Nature and forests in video strangely hilly, look like forests around St.Albans next to London, forests around Dublin and St.Albans. Mormonic enclave must be there. Hence forests guarded by fences, and entrance to them not possible. Many forest areas not possible to enter for people because of timal calendar enclaves behind them. The Mormonic enclave must be with calendar of 14th century. I underline that there was and is no other 14th century than this enclave. All dates in all calendars are always staged. We do not live in an old world. I will say more on my own blog.
Tori was kidnapped a few times and taken to strange unknown territories with strangely behaving people, often strangely dressed. Not just in the one house, on whole territory. Culture of fairs, culture of markets, that was on those territories. She talked about it publicly. Those territories had different calendars, even though she not always knew that because the kidnappers tried to hide that fact from her. She had to run away on her own from most such kidnappings. I underline, there is no problem to kidnap somebody of our contemporary world to 14th century or 17th century. They are enclaves inside our 21st century. Often called Mormons or Sectan. This is only an area travel for kidnappers, no time travel is needed. History happens in those enclaves. Enlightenment events happen in the 17th century enclave which is an area territory in our contemporary 21st world.
Time travel is needed only for some parts of historical calendar terrains, it is also possible, but of course it doesn't happen through simple car drive. Tori was car driven to territories with 14th century calendar. This is the historical century of William Wallace. He lives there on those terrains. In our contemporary world.
I still want to know what spark is and spare keys are. Maybe they are spark keys. Is spark a mechanical part of a car or some machine? Then not used on 21st territories.

    A.... M....

The world is very huge and very young. Very huge.

  84. M.... A....

Just realized this song is a waltz..love this song

  85. C.... R....

she seems to be addicted to being a victim. hummmm. if that so. be fine.

  86. C.... R....

Wooohoo³ This girl still rocks so much. Thank u for the music.

  87. g.... ....

Reminds me of the band "Tool"

  88. A.... D....

    the best song ever

  89. C.... R....

What jerks for not helping and just driving away. Geeze

  90. P.... ....

You pray to the generic blonde blue eyed vanillas... they fuck you every time. It's a metaphor or is it?

  91. M.... M....

She always made me think of Maharet from Queen of the Damned.

  92. J.... H....

One of her greatest songs in my opinion.

  93. M.... P....

This lady somehow mixed Kate Bush and Jethro Tull into a rather intoxicating brew....Love you Tori forever!

  94. M.... S....

She's one of the best songwriters and performers ever in my opinion.

  95. T.... M....

A powerful song with a powerful video with a powerful message; it's inspiring to see someone standing against this culture of death. I first saw this 20 years ago (possibly to the day) and have never forgotten it.

  96. S.... D....

    Absolute GENIUS!

  97. K.... T....

Has anybody else noticed that the music in the verse sounds strangely like "Rush"? Specifically Alex Lifeson guitar style and Neil Peart drum rhythms.

  98. G.... P....

I had never really heard of Tori Amos. I came across this song though and find it really compelling. What would be a better song by her from a fan that would know.

    G.... P....

Gabriel Powers if you're still interested and haven't found them yet, check out 'Little Earthquakes' and 'A Scarlet's Walk'. They're both gem albums.

    G.... P....

Gabriel Powers, I'd second her album Little Earthquakes, followed by Under the Pink, and her EP Boys for Peele. I imagine you'll recognize the song "Cornflake Girl" from Little Earthquakes, "God" from Under the Pink (which I still hear pop up on the radio), and possibly "Telula" from the movie Twister (assuming you've seen the movie!), though I'm more a fan of the song "Caught a Lite Sneeze" from that EP.
