Tomlin, Chris - O Holy Night Lyrics

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees, o hear the angel voices
O night divine, o night when Christ was born
O night divine, o night, o night divine

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His Gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy name
Christ is the Lord, o praise His name forever
His power and glory yet the poor proclaim
His power and glory yet the poor proclaim

Fall on your knees, o hear the angel voices
O night divine, o night when Christ was born
O night divine, o night, o night divine

    O holy night,
    The stars are brightly shining;
    It is the night of
    Our dear Savior's birth!
    Long lay the world
    In sin and error pining,
    Till He appeared
and the soul felt its worth.
    A thrill of hope,
    the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

    Fall on your knees,
    o hear the angel voices!
    O night divine,
O night when Christ was born!
    O night divine, O night,
    O night divine!

Led by the light of Faith
    serenely beaming,
    With glowing hearts
    by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star
    sweetly gleaming,
    Here came the wise men
    from Orient land.
The King of Kings lay thus
    in lowly manger,
    In all our trials
    born to be our Friend!
    He knows our need,
    to our weakness no stranger;
    Behold your King!
    before the lowly bend!
    Behold your King! your King!
    Before Him bend.

    Truly He taught us
    To love one another;
    His law is love and
    His gospel is peace.
    Chains shall He break
For the slave is our brother
    And in His name
    All oppression shall cease.
    Sweet hymns of joy in
    Grateful chorus raise we,
    Let all within us
    Praise His holy name!
    Christ is the Lord,
    Oh praise His name forever,
His pow'r and glory evermore proclaim
    His pow'r and glory
    Evermore proclaim.

My favorite traditional Christmas song, and this is, by far, my favorite arrangement. The second verse has always been the one that touches my heart and has tears springing to my eyes every single time.  I remember singing this as a solo many, MANY years ago, and had to convince my chorus teacher that I could do it when I wasn't the Soprano that they usually wanted for this song. She allowed me to do it, it sounded a lot like this, and she was pleased with the result.  This arrangement reminds me of that time; what a great memory!

Oh Holy Night... Thank you Father God for Your Gift to everyone but I accepted it and it has changed my life....  Jesus!

The outro instrumental part on this version is, for me, possibly the best and most worshipful part! I was so glad it didn't end with loud pre-canned applause. It allows you to just take a breath and soak up the miracle.

I’m ever and always a stranger to grace.I need this annual angel visitation... to know the virgin conceives and God is with us

Have a listen to Darlene Zschech covering this song (on YouTube) .. simply outstanding and annointed. Praise The Lord for those he has gifted to write and sing beautiful songs in worship of Him
