Tom Waits - No One Knows I'm Gone Lyrics

Hell above and Heaven below
All the trees are gone
The rain made such a lovely sound
To those who are six feet under ground
The leaves will bury every year
And no one knows I'm gone

Live me golden tell me dark
Hide from Graveyard John
The moon is full here every night
And I can bathe here in his light
The leaves will bury every year
And no one knows I'm gone

Tom waits. Knows of cemetery & being buried in the cold cold ground. We spend less than 70-80
Years above ground. And the rest of our time decaying in the hard hard soil.
Tom waits. Goes to the places no one wants to go.

  8. T.... D....

No one knows I'm here and no one knows or cares when I am gone.......

  9. S.... ....

I bet no one suspected that this song was about a baby called Charles Lindbergh Jr that was kidnapped by a man called john who worked in a graveyard and was found 72 days later under some leaves with a crushed skull.

    S.... ....

+Kian Lord Of The Pings I watch CRP countdowns too

    "Ад все выше,а небо ниже
    Деревья под землю ушли,
    И дождь только слышен
    Для тех кто ниже
    Шесть футов от кромки земли..

    Листья хоронят,ведь,каждый год
И только не знает ни кто
    Когда и где и в каких местах
    Похоронят как листья его..

  20. E.... W....

Awesome stuff. Our band's lead singer is very influenced by this music. Check it out if you get a chance. Cheers!

  22. T.... L....

    This is absolutly fantastic.

  23. S.... Y....

This song would make a lovely listening track while reading Neil Gaimans Neverwhere, methinks

    S.... Y....

at 1:44 you'd be on some heavy repeat sir.

  24. A.... M....

The rain makes such a lovely sound
To those who're six feet underground

I just realised that these lines are taken from "Renascence" by Edna St Vincent Millay -- "For rain it hath a friendly sound / To one who's six feet underground" and now I love Tom Waits even more!

    A.... M....

    Thankyou for your knowledge..!!

  25. M.... A....

My sister is going to abroad and I'm so sad for that. Please don't go.Deniz abla seni çok seviyorum tekrar karşılaşıcağımız zaman büyümüş olucam.(Yukarda kalmamı sağlayın arkadaşlar)

  27. F.... H....

I've just fought tears in my eyes, this is what I live and search for, something to make me feel alive. So beautiful and today I found it for the first time. Thank you so much for uploading. This is powerful!

  28. K.... A....

i've been searching Tom Waits songs for 2-3 hours. My only criterion is that: if there is Tom Waits's voice, then download it.

  29. S.... ....

I'm 15 years old in a generation of lady gaga and katy perry hearing kids. But now i'm so happy that i found tom waits, one of the greatest musicians on world

    S.... ....

SpaceLetsPlay Now that you're 19 have you come to realize that this came out in an era of New Kids on the Block, Modonna and Vanilla Ice? He's probably more popular now then he was then. There's nothing new under the sun, and history repeats itself.

  30. B.... L....

I don't know why , but there is something magnetic about his voice...
Its coarse, yet not harsh .
    Its rattly, yet strong.
    Its old, yet timeless.

its simply out of this world.

  31. A.... K....

I know . Stay with me

  32. m.... d....

If no one knows I'm dead maybe they think I'm alive; and who am I to; argue.

  33. T.... W....

    Relaxing

  34. b.... ....

    ciao Maja
It's a photograph of Waits from the 'Mule Variations' album artwork.

  35. M.... B....

    what's the second picture (it's a painting i guess)?

  36. M.... M....

Like a fine bourbon, Tom's voice only gets better with age.

  37. j.... g....

i miss you my CELINE LEHU

  38. r.... ....

It's a familiar (and wonderful) tune. Does anybody know a song that goes something like this?

  39. R.... W....

Africa for the Africans, Asia for the Asians, but White countries for EVERYBODY!??

    That's genocide!

  40. M.... B....

After a bottle of Jack Daniels No One Knows Im Gone......Drunk On The Moon

  41. w.... ....

The replay value of this track is immense. It just 'fits'. Great stuff!

  42. H.... J....

NO ONE KNOWS I'M GONE ... JUST ME AND ME IN A DARK PLACE ...

  43. N.... M....

    Once too short
    now too long

  44. H.... D....

Tom Waits and Edna St. Vincent Millay.

    I 'SHIP THEM SO HARD!!!1!!!

  45. M.... ....

    so short...

  46. a.... O....

    I'm shivering.

  47. S.... D....

It is tragic when you realize that the best thing you have left to do in your life is realizing this song.

  48. k.... ....

I never cry at songs, never!
First time listened to this wonderful piece of music..
    crying like a baby..
    wonderful..

  49. G.... L....

    Beautiful imagery.

  50. t.... ....

this song is insanely deep and powerful, i tried to do it justice in a cover on my channel. please check it out and let me know what you think

  51. R.... ....

Tom Waits, But For Whom And Until When?...

    R.... ....

    Hello Tocallo !!

  52. E.... D....

cjdavis18 That is correct. The impression that I have is that Tom selects us and chooses us as kind of religious followers, forever. That´s magic! I was laughing for hours the other day, a Tom Waits fan in one of these comments: "Listening to and loving Tom´s music has wrecked my musical taste. Now I´m doomed to listen forever only to the Old Croak!" Cool comment.

  53. c.... ....

    It's also 20 seconds longer.

  54. c.... ....

I have realised this is a different version than the version I have. The version I have starts with vocals immediately, no intro. And Tom has inserted a pause before 'Heaven' in the first line.

Does anyone else know this version?

  55. c.... ....

I was thinking about this the other day.

I find that when I listen to Tom, I get drawn in further and further to his music. It makes me shun other music for weeks. Then gradually I let others back in again, only to be drawn back to Tom. When I listen, I want him all to myself, and it's a very powerful experience, which hasn't changed from the first time I heard his music 10 years ago.

Wrenching youself away is hard, but if you do, it allows to rediscover him all over again. :)

  56. E.... D....

cjdavis18 your comment hits the nail on the head. Tom wants to take us somewhere else with his music. It really is a lonely and unique journey. I notice that enjoying Tom Waits is being lonely. Tom is kind oif selfish and possessive. He hooks us and takes the very best of us to him. The more I listen and get to understand Tom, the more I wat to stick to his music. Am I wrong in this perception?

  57. S.... ....

Nope! sorry man. when your gone! those with taste will know.

  58. c.... ....

He hasn't released a bad song. I can't think of a single one. His albums are like journeys, the stories told to you while walking alongside.

  59. I.... P....

The leaves will bury every year
And no one knows I'm gone - this is so... deep... So true... and yet, so sad... that it is so true...

  60. h.... ....

That would be a sweet thing to have done and probably would be so apt for when the time comes that Tom Waits gets buried.
Me, I would perhaps choose Fish and Bird, since the only thing I want when I am gone is for my lifeless corpse to be thrown over a cliff into the ocean - after all, fish need to eat as well.

  61. j.... ....

    It's so personal, isn't it?

  62. L.... ....

Same here. I have the same with Cat Stevens, he always gets me.

  63. R.... ....

    Tom Waits. For no man.

  64. F.... ....

i turn EVERYONE i know onto Tom Waits. His music transcends genre.

  65. L.... H....

Toms music will live on even when he's gone, we must pass such beautiful works of art on to the next generation and hope it continues to be passed on.

  66. T.... ....

I get what you mean, but I gotta disagree - the short song mirrors our short lives, bitter and sweet and leaving you wanting more...

  67. g.... ....

I hope the grave diggers sing this of me as they fill my grave.

  68. T.... S....

If I could shake your hand through the internet I would.

  69. D.... ....

and my ghost will sing this at my empty funeral.

  70. B.... ....

It's unfortunate musicians aren't officially recognized as poets. Tom should be our Laureate.

  71. J.... ....

Life is too short for Tom.

  72. K.... ....

    maybe it's cause he's American.

  73. t.... ....

maybe steve meant tom is a treasure FROM america, rather than a treasure OF america; or maybe i'm projecting...

  74. s.... n....

    American treasure, he is.

  75. c.... ....

This tune reminds me of A Nightmare Before Christmas. <3

  76. M.... ....

As songwriter he's so near to live and real.
And as a singer.. I love him. So amazing an whiskey voice.

  77. I.... O....

i took some lsd and listened to this song. Tom waits became the voice of the death people. u know like hes the master of death..it was so amazing!!

  78. q.... ....

    that's what she said

  79. b.... ....

@drvolsgirl my dad got me into Tom about a year ago. been listening to him pretty much non stop now.

  80. b.... ....

@drvolsgirl have you seen Down By Law by Jim Jarmusch? he's in it. pretty good movie.

  81. T.... K....

Every time I listen to a Tom Waits song, I feel as though I am bathing in his light.

  82. S.... T....

    @ThatGuyWithThoseGuns

I guess congratulations are in order seeing as you made it through those extra 42 seconds then

  83. S.... I....

    please play at my funeral

  84. G.... ....

These lyrics are haunting: „The rain made such a lovely sound/ To those who are six feet under ground”.

  85. S.... I....

I strongly feel, this will be the case for me when I go. Have all arranged, no announcement, nothing - will be gone, but unlike those I love, will be forgotten

  86. t.... ....

"Critics mentionned him as "mythical songwrighter, but doubted singer"."

well, maybe one dude said that.

  87. P.... M....

i told myself it sounded gay at the start , so Id give it 1:00 in . I listened to the whole song

  88. i.... ....

i love the over sentiment, melo dramatic f-tards, Holy crap...i guess people are just dim, i got a friend like this though so i guess i understand his music a bit better.

  89. N.... L....

I just bought his last record, "bad as me". Critics mentionned him as "mythical songwrighter, but doubted singer". I don't agree, Tom's magic also passes through that stoned medieval cryptic voice, which can only bring us to the perfection of THE feeling of music.

You are one of the greatest still alive Tom, and you did not stole your place.

  90. .... ....

    kostas xatzis

  91. A.... V....

Thank you Jon Lajoie, that you helped me to discover this wonderful singer...

    -Aeschylus

i wish this was a longer song

  96. k.... s....
