  5. A.... V....

My brothers and I were all born on Sunday so we like this song.

  6. J.... D....

Hey hey hey, and he died a rebel

  7. L.... J....

King of the hill. Love you Tom.

  8. D.... M....

shame he apologized for using the rebel flag. at least Van Zandt and Cash were proud of their roots forever as was jennings. Why did you have to sell out to those "blue bellies devils" Tom?

  9. R.... M....

We Were REBELS Once - And PROUD!!!!!! Back in The Day, We in The SOUTH, held our heads up in Pride!!!! Our ancestors fought the good fight. Sure, we lost, but We NEVER Apologized, or Agonized about the Times of Long Ago!!!!!!! Now, everybody seems to be turning their back on their Heritage, ripping down statues, trying to atone for the Past. B.S. Long before there was a Confederate States of America, you have a United States of America - which failed on so many levels to give us a United Country. Rip down some flags, start with the American Flag that has been around since 1776!!!!!!!!

  10. B.... L....

Blasting this with the windows down as you flying down the road just has an incomparable feeling

  11. T.... C....

Ive got one foot in the grave the other on the pedal I was born a rebel. Hey hey hey......

  12. Y.... L....

Thank you dad for getting me into this amazing man
    Rip Tom 🙏🙏

  13. J.... H....

The new standard, almost as powerful as Dixie and the flag ...

    J.... H....

    Bonnie Blue Flag?

  14. A.... L....

"Even before my father's father - they called us all "REBELS"
Burned down our cornfields - and left our cities LEVELLED
I can still feel the EYES of those blue-bellied DEVILS
When I'm walkin' round tonight - thru the concrete and metal -
Hey, hey, hey - I WAS BORN A REBEL!
DOWN IN DIXIE - ON A SUNDAY MORNIN !
One foot in the GRAVE and one foot on the pedal
    I WAS BORN A REBEL - I WAS BORN A REBEL "

I was in Ireland - On October 2 - my BIRTHDAY - it was a weird day - gray - no SUN - black clouds - it was late evening and my daughter and I had just had dinner and were driving back to the hotel. The SUN was going down - suddenly, there was a break in the clouds and they separated - in a straight line across the sky. The SUN was this HUGE GOLDEN ORB - slowly going down -
just LIGHTING EVERYTHING UP beneath the line of black . We were so transfixed by the sky that we pulled the car over to the side of the road. We were on top of a hill. As we looked at it, this DOUBLE RAINBOW formed! We both said 'MY GOD!" at the same moment. The radio was down low - but we heard it - "We are sad to report the American Singer Tom Petty has died today
of a stroke. He had just come off his world tour .... ...." We didn't hear the rest of it - we both broke down in tears, moaning
"Oh No ... " But suddenly, above the SUN and the RAINBOWS - I SAW TOM'S FACE - he was smiling and he said "It''s OK" ..and something else, but I didn't hear it - I WAS IN A TRANCE of some sort. I don't know how or why - but I felt the message was
for ME - I felt that he had passed part of his soul to me. I was born on a Sunday too - same as Tom. - Ever since that moment
Ive felt a 'connection' to him. The weird thing is that I wasn't a real big FAN - I knew his music but I'd never really delved into it.
I'm 76 and my 'rock'n'roll' days were before he was around. When we got back to Los Angeles, where we live, my daughter had come to visit me - we were going to go to a movie. When I got to the car she was in a very serious conversation on the phone.
I got in, sat down, waited in silence. She was silently weeping . Reassuring someone that she would do whatever she could to help. After she hung up, she said "That was Tom's daughter - she needs my help." It seems that they were friends - I had never
known this! From that day - in Ireland - to this - I've got to know him and his music - and I really feel that he's ALIVE.
The SOUL lives on. His MUSIC LIVES ON. It is a GREAT GIFT to us all. I wasn't intending to write this story - just the lyrics.
But it just HAPPENED. I think Tom's around! THANK YOU for EVERYTHING.

  15. T.... M....

fishin rod, shotgun, and a pickup truck👍☺

  16. w.... c....

if this ain't American, pure and simple and strong and optimistic, what is? Rock like this inspires, lifts the spirit, causes the soul to fly. the mind to dream, the heart to expand. vast, cool and unsympathetic.

  17. C.... M....

I had a messed up childhood, as a teen I found Tom Petty be and his music got me through some tuff times. I saw Tom and the HEARTBREAKERS 5 times. The last time that he came to Indiana, I had a choice to make. My little dog, Mojo was dying, and in pain. I put her out of her misery. I missed seeing Tom Petty... But I know that I did the right thing.😔

  18. C.... S....

Awesome song.  This is Tom Petty through and through.

  19. M.... S....

Great album...just not a fan of the mix...too tinny sounding

  20. J.... Q....

Down in Dixie don’t doubt it

  21. N.... B....

Such an underrated album. I can listen to it from beginning to end with no reservations. This song is as good as any of of Petty's hits.

  22. H.... L....

I miss you almost as much as I miss my mama and daddy. Rest easy.

  23. E.... K....

Absolutely one of the greatest american songwriters and absolutely one of the greatest american bands of all time. Their older songs still sound new and relevant while their newer mateial could easily be mistaken for a classic. Theres a reason most people know just about every word to every song theyve ever relessed. They were THAT good.

  24. K.... P....

    Favorite Tom Petty song!

  25. d.... ....

Please come back Tom!!! We still really need you.

  26. m.... s....

    RIP Lucky

  27. D.... M....

Love Tom Petty always will . He punked out on the Rebel flag which I never understood but oh well. One of my favorite Rockers ever.

    D.... M....

    do you not understand irony?

  28. T.... M....

YOU WERE FLORIDA'S TRUE REBEL RIP TOM PETTY.

  29. T.... M....

    FISHING AND HUNTING☺👍

  30. n.... ....

Ha, despite what the song says...from the documentary, sounds like Tom was born a sweet soul who loved his mother:) Though his fight with the record company would prove he was a rebel!

  31. J.... H....

Hey, hey, hey I was born a rebel ! Damn proud to be from Texas and the South, brothers in arms.

  32. G.... E....

How fukn cool are these lyrics (Honey don't walk out I'm too drunk to follow) been there lost that LOL

  33. j.... L....

    And proud of it

  34. R.... B....

"She picked me up in the morning, paid all my tickets. Screamed in the car, left me out in the thicket." I come from a North Carolina dad and a proud Irish mum....their marriage has always been fueled by passion and rebellion. A child of teen parents, me and my sister. I lived that line. Many a memory of that. My dad is much calmer now. Friend to everybody....but this line reminds me of the wild years he still had till I was a teenager and the equally fiery mother that tempered his rebel spirit. I will always think of my dad and mum when I hear this.

  35. R.... S....

I don't care who wants to put down this song, due to the southern content. Sing it Tom, sing it loud!!!

  36. C.... ....

    RIP Thank you Tom.

  37. T.... R....

    My favorite Tom Petty song!!!❤️

  38. S.... V....

    Child hood favourite 👌👌👍

  39. A.... M....

I got this 45 spinning blasting tom petty all day but the power went out so I'm back here. Rip tom you were the best.

  40. R.... S....

This song inspires me to no end! Man was born to be free! It's a damn shame, but it feels so good to be a rebel. Mr. Petty, ride free!!

  41. T.... M....

DO YOU WANT TO GO FISHING OR RACING GO CARTS.

  42. C.... J....

Have not listened to this song in a while. Damn it sounds good. Brings back good memories...

  43. T.... O....

I had a few Tom Petty albums in my collection. Gave them all to a neighbor when I took a year to live out west. Hardest thing I ever did was giving them away, but Harry deserved every one of them! Well over 600 albums. Hope he gives them all to someone else to enjoy in a few years.

  44. t.... V....

How come I haven't heard this until now! So good!

  45. W.... 8....

    R.I.P Tom Petty

  46. J.... F....

Heard this on King of the Hill

  47. A.... L....

I just realized - I WAS BORN ON A SUNDAY MORNING - we ARE different - only another SUNDAY's child would KNOW.

  48. H.... C....

Yep alot of memories to this song and other songs of Tom Petty and the heartbreakers.

  49. A.... L....

"I can still feel the eyes of those blue bellied devils - when I'm walking round tonight thru the concrete and metal --
with one foot in the grave and one foot on the pedal ...." Down in the bottom of his SOUL - THIS is who he was.

  50. s.... s....

    Great tune!

  51. M.... C....

    Don't mess with Virginia...unless you're a slime democrat...in that case...get the hell out...you're not welcome here...anymore

  52. T.... C....

I don't know why Tom really didn't play this live that much.....I saw him 2 times 2002, 2009. (After that the ticket prices were just too high) and I never heard him play this one.

    T.... C....

Because he spent to much time in California and rubbed off on him. He forgot where he came from.

  53. K.... P....

I'm from the North and I was born a rebel. Hey Hey Hey. Tom was not a racist, give it up PC morons.

  54. J.... C....

    Why was he Barney Rubble

  55. c.... p....

    MISS YOU TOM PETTY

  56. S.... K....

Best tune by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers -- hands down.

  57. A.... B....

From one of my all-time favorite albums.

  58. F.... A....

I'm just drunk enough to follow.
This is when your relationship really starts getting all fucked up.

  59. n.... r....

GO GREAT WHITE EUROPEAN RACE WHICH IS THE HARDEST WORKING RACE IN THE WORLD!!!

  60. n.... r....

GO DIXIE AND LET THE CONFEDERATE BATTLE FLAG WAVE FREELY!!!

  61. p.... ....

I was born a Rebel too, on a Sunday morning!

  62. M.... ....

I remember my Brother n Law brought this album and i played tbis song.He was like why you like this song you a Black chick?
I was like its Tom Petty and the Song speaks from his rebel heart...

  63. e.... s....

If General Robert E. Lee had this song as his Confederate army's battle cry, the South would have definitely won the war.

  64. B.... P....

One of his best off one of his best LP's. This is classic Tom middle finger in the air letting everybody know he was not playing. He showed em' big time standing up to Record company just as Johnny & Waylon did. Jammin Me and I Won't Back Down spoke volume, Prompting Cash to say "Tom Petty is an Honest man" !!! High praise from the master to the pupil.

  65. n.... r....

ONLY BAD THING ABOUT TOM PETTY WAS HE SUPPORTED HOMESEXUALITY AND SODOMITES WICH THE BIBLE SAYS IS AN ABOMINATION AND HE IS PROPABLY BURNING IN CONTINUAL TORMENT AND NASHING HIS TEETH AND BEGING JESUS FOR ONE DROP OF WATER IN HELL FOREVER TODAY FOR NOT REPENTING AND ASKING JESUS TO FORGIVE HIM AND MAKING JESUS #1 IN HIS LIFE.

  66. n.... r....

tom petty DID STAND UP FOR HIS SOUTHERN WHITE HISTORY AND HERITAGE!

    n.... r....

Ok racist. You must be a democrat or some other form of leftist.

  67. n.... r....

GO DIXIE AND LET THE CONFEDERATE BATTLE FLAG WAVE FREELY!!!

  68. M.... N....

bs, you are not alone and I know it

  69. S.... M....

    TOP TOM PETTY !!!!!!!!!!

  70. W.... C....

Criticizing this song for political reasons is sort of like picking apart Ellington songs for being sexist

  71. M.... W....

Always remember this sound driving down to Daytona Beach from Ohio in 2003 , with my Marine buddy, right before he headed off to Iraq. Never forget those times.

  72. T.... C....

So simple yet there is just something about Petty's songwriting that has this magic about it.......when a songwriter like this gets together with the right producer (ie Jeff Lyne).....the sky is the limit (BTW I know Jeff Lyne didn't produce this, the guy from the eurythmics did) when Petty and Lyne's paths did finally cross they were unstoppable.

  73. R.... S....

what a rock & roller IT IS JUST SO SAD THAT HE IS NOT WITH US ANY MORE

  74. R.... A....

    .R.I.P.

  75. n.... r....

  76. S.... D....

Powerful history even if you do not agree with the sentiments. And how many rock musicians know one damn thing about history? Also courtesy of Weird Al: I was Barney Rubble...

  77. n.... r....

    GO GREAT WHITE EUROPEAN RACE!

  86. A.... B....

  87. J.... R....

Tom Petty…he was such a badass

  88. G.... E....

Being politically correct he stopped singing this song...wewwww where you offended....kma

  99. E.... K....

Although not a true Southerner but a transplant, I can thoroughly understand the meaning of this song. Tom Petty just had a knack with words.

    E.... K....
