Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Money Becomes King Comments
Discovered this through John Densmore.
My new favorite song.
I go back and look at ticket stubs..When i could see the Greatful Dead for 27.00 bucks..All the shows were reasonable, and man i seen everyone possible..This song rings so true, it feels like my life..And he nailed it with that Petty poetry only Tom could do..
Saw him in concert multiple times. Saw him during the last DJ tour too. Dude was legit. We had good seats cheap too. Amazing live shows.
Amo este tema, su letra, su esencia el mundo en que vivimos hoy en día. Una completa obra de arte que me identifica pues yo tuve una gran banda de rock hasta que the money becomes king.
True Story
8 people are tasteless fools.
It's really beautiful. It reminds me a lot a song of Claudio Rocchi "La realtà non esiste" (1971). The melody also recalls in some way The Turtles of "You showed me"... I don't see references to Bon Jovi.. which song you meant, hAnD90? Rip TP and CR +
True everywhere really that Money is King
So true - love this song !!
Cannot stop listen to this song. God, I love it!
yo también.
"Hocked all their possessions... the tickets doubled in price... Looking into the crowd, there was no one like him... they put up billboards on the screen so cheaper seats can see him..." paraphrasing this... Truth.
Some insight why our artists are liable to killing themselves at the height/end of their fame. Fake fans only out there for an autograph, a selfie, so they can sell it on eBay or prove to their family and friends(if they even have any) that they touched a "god" who feels like he wants to kill himself onstage... bc he's surrounded by fakeness. Then he gets offstage to his managers and interns, who mooch over him til he gets to his mansion, then drinks/takes opiates to numb himself from the biggest regret of his life, which he used to love. Or like Chris Cornell or Chester Bennington - they hang themselves in the bathroom, and only their maid and driver discover the grisly sight... And then their social media accounts get all weepy and shit. And then their "fans" wonder how could this be?? They saw him last night onstage, they were partying with a god, here's a selfie to prove it. Whoops, his eyes are vacant for a god... If only we noticed his expression and not get all flustered while the NSA/FBI/some middle-aged waste of space fat loser are spying on us thru our phones. The bigger the audience, the better, right? Sorry about that Celeb suicide again... At least we got selfies and likes!! before he killed himself.
Keep lying, it hastens the karma anyway. Good for people seeking justice. As for the artists - they're better off living away from the fakeness. Be like Gene Hackman or Dave Chappelle and disappear for a while. Suspend soc media bc there's nothing more pathetic than a loser pretending to be more than who they truly are. All lies. Don't let your assistants be parasites on a corrupt culture.
Round and round day in day out the cycle of corruption goes, left ignored, even encouraged. Soulless Arti$try.
RIP Tom.
We'll never forget.
Every Verse A Diamond . Ever Chorus Gold.!
-Thanks for all the great music and song writing Stuff.Mister Petty. You were a Genius! -
R.I.P to a legend
Mister Kingdom ditto man
RIP the King
Excellent songwriting, but quite a bitter taste if you're a Bon Jovi fan. The song applies to Jon, and that pretty much word for word.
rocknblues2079 Absolutely. I wonder if TP was speaking about a particular experience or the state of the music industry in general. He was always a great advocate for his fans and music being unsullied by Big business as much as he could.
Mark McGibbon I think you hit it on the head. The entire album "The Last DJ" seems focused more or less on this theme.
Did Tom ever imply this?
he's probably describing the routine of regular fans
Today , or last night I was aressted by the police. They beated me blue and yellow. That was a real good beating'- Now I find comfort in this song. before money becomes king
I absolutely love Tom's storied songs. I think this is the best. At least my favorite. so so so so much truth.
All of this came true, everything he predicted in 2002. I didn't mean for that to rhyme but it did. Especially the song Joe,it sums up everything
I got all excited when Rush announced their 40th anniversary tour this past week. Then I saw the ticket prices. Yes, money is now king.
@Sexual Offenderman here is a nother good one ^^ i love tom petty he did mots of my fab songs you will here lots pf his songs XD
Hey so do I.
Preach, Tom, preach.

Fuck off and drink a light beer.

Tom Petty rules! He's telling it like it is.
