great cover... when was it released?

  2. R.... A....

Tom Petty is a legend for eternity - RIP

  3. T.... ....

I hear Tom and tear up

  4. j.... l....

Excellent soundtrack for Ed Burns first rate film .

  5. K.... R....

I'm going to get a lot of flack for this. But this is the best song that he ever recorded, In my opinion.

    K.... R....

I reckon you'll be forgiven for any exuberance. This was a classic cut no mistake from a man with a real embarrassment of riches in musical achievement... so good. It stands along with his best for sure.

  6. B.... H....

Saw him in Seattle first and last time. 2018 Rest In Peace and keep rocking the eff out... i miss you. Thank you for playing Seattle.
    You belong among the wildflowers

  7. D.... N....

And honey I'm laughing all the time.. I love that Tom Petty you were the man.

  8. R.... J....

I changed the locks on my door, too

  9. J.... ....

Great break up song! Moving on moving up and moving out,

  10. t.... i....

great song... for me even better in this version

  11. t.... f....

    I love this 🖤

  12. r.... ....

This sounds like it’d be a song he wrote, doesn’t it? Like obviously the music is his own, but the lyrics seem like something that’d come off his highway companion album. Awesome tune!!

  13. D.... M....

    Should be his signature Song

  14. C.... ....

changed the lock on my front door so you can't see me anymore
And you can't come inside my house, and you can't lie down on my couch
I changed the lock on my front door
I changed the number on my phone so you can't call me up at home
And you can't say those things to me that make me fall down on my knees
I changed the number on my phone
I changed the kind of car I drive so you can't see me when I go by
And you can't chase me up the street, and you can't knock me off of my feet
I changed the kind of car I drive
I changed the kind of clothes I wear so you can't find me anywhere
And you can't spot me in a crowd, and you can't call my name out loud
I changed the kind of clothes I wear
I changed the tracks underneath the train so you can't find me again
And you can't trace my path, and you can't hear my laugh
I changed the tracks underneath the train
I changed the name of this town so you can't follow me down
And you can't touch me like before, and you can't make me want you more
I changed the name of this town
I changed the lock on my front door, I changed the number on my phone
I changed the kind of car I drive, I changed the kind of clothes I wear
I changed the tracks underneath the train, I changed the name of this town
I changed the name of this town
I changed the name of this town

  15. B.... M....

    Very cool. Different.🦆

  16. R.... L....

You can’t keep a genius down. The Beatles could only dream about writing a song as good as this. Lucinda and TP , two of the best songwriters this world has ever seen.

  17. L.... J....

This song is so fun-I love it when he laughs!

  18. D.... V....

    three chords!!?

  19. N.... A....

I sometimes imagine Tom Petty sitting in her studio listening to this, shaking his head and then turning to her and saying, "Damn Girl that is a perfect song".

    N.... A....

Nancy Atlas ... thank you for painting that beautiful picture in my mind ... oh and to have been a fly on the wall in that studio, with those two glorious souls. Seeing Lu tonite - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road 20th anniversary tour. 💜

@Kimberly Sisemore albeit appropriate for the tone of the movie and the real life divorce Tom was dealing with when he took the contract to write for Warner bros pictures.

  31. J.... H....

I saw Lucinda Williams open for Tom Petty in 1999...she sang this song that night & it was awesome...obviously the band that played after her that night is the best band of all time!!!

    J.... H....

to this day car wheels on a gravel road is such a classic

  32. B.... T....

the heartbreakers are the best guitar band ever ever ever and their harmonising is so simple but the best ever ever ever .

Masters of economy. And can jam too.

    B.... T....

@Guitarsthatkill Love them and I feel like they`re definitely fans of Neal Young and Crazy Horse!

  33. J.... D....

Hellooooilove You - I know what you're going thru. Had a severe brain injury and 3 week coma, basically a vegetable for a long time. Two years before I got out of the wheelchair, and the mental recovery was much slower. Couldn't even buy a candy bar after all that time. I'm doing the same thing you are, listening to a lot of music on Youtube now that I can finally enjoy it again. I'm doing very well physically, mentally and spiritually. Hang in there. God truly does work miracles.

  34. M.... E....

    Brilliant cover.

  35. J.... G....

    Great Song....

  36. H.... Y....

Catching up on The Affair and head this song for the very first time. I can't believe I had never heard Lucinda Williams either. Tom Petty is in my top 5 but he can't beat her original version of this amazing song.

    S.... C....

+Scott Yeager Ditto....."Unsuffer Me" I love......She just puts it all out there, leaves her soul on the stage.... I listen to her everyday!!!

    S.... C....

Ok.. never heard of the affair.. but Lucinda Williams is a standard in music to me.. don't mind tom petty most of the time but he really sucks trying to do her.

    S.... C....

Doran Maxwell , I went through it and Tom Petty says it all. I love Tom Petty and Heartbreakers. I was an original. Yes, I love Lucinda as well. Tom just brought it to me during this time period.

    S.... C....

@doran: I really don't think Tom was trying to "do" her. He just did his version that sounded exactly like himself.

    S.... C....

Truly sad that a dumb TV show brought anyone here. On the other hand You Go Lucinda!

  46. B.... P....

Tom didn't write it .Lucinda either. Johnny Cash my friends.Johnny mother flippin Cash !!!!!

    B.... P....

+Zed Dalan Actually i believe thats how he started his career, even wrote one for elvis. It was only when a woman of a famous nashville family fell for him he got a break singing. It was just at the end of his career that he stopped.

    B.... P....
