Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Century City Comments
Tom's most rockin song? I love it.
this album stands the test of time i love when tom says in century city everythings happening
Been to Century City ( I'm from Italy) once.....Nothing special
Will this play for me? Seems like. Honey Century City's got everything covered.
Tom Petty knows all about it. Hollywood hills, damn the torpedoes.
You can mash up southern rock 'til you're blue in the face but this is the best.
Even better than Cheap Trick or Aerosmith.
Man was SICK live. Saw him on the "Let me up I've had Enough" Tour R.I.P.
I have the best 2 favorite choices of music megadeth and Tom Petty
Think I'd vote for any republicans? Skip the trump ads.
I'm a Jimmy Carter Democrat and always vote that way.
We're a simple peanut farming southern family.
This is Century City. We got everything covered.
Tom's gone now but laid it down just like this since
the '70s. What, doesn't everyone love this song?
It never lasts for too long, always goes away. It's that West LA
twitch back again to haunt me.
Sometimes I get discouraged but then the Rabbi comes out of his church and
says it'll all be okay. Just like Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies.
Sure I've posed as a corpse in numerous movies, roadkill.
Of course I'm typecast as a corpse. Barbra Feldon cares so much about me
she comes out to Wilshire to scrape me up with a spatula when I get run over by an suv.
Tunescribers has created sheet music for this, you can find it here: https://www.tunescribers.com/2816/more-work-samples/century-city-guitar-solo-tablature
Sometimes I get discouraged
Sometimes I feel so down
Sometimes I get so worried
But I don't know what about
But it works out in the long run
Always goes away
And I've come now to accept it
As a reoccurring phase
Ain’t that the truth
Everyone loves Century City. Honey we got everythin' covered.
bottom line what a rocker
Saw Tom in 78. Awesome
Dana York Petty's son Dylan had some of the lyric of this tattooed on his arm. To remind him not to be overcome by worry. One of my favorites from Damn The Torpedoes. The now long gone publication Radio & Records had it's 1979 Convention at the Hotel on Century Blvd. We spent a few days living in Century City. Not a "B" side to me.
True Story:
I first heard this song when I was 20 years old. Got the album for my Birthday in July. This song made me drive to Century City (near Santa Monica & Hollywood) and just drive around playing this song over and over really loud. I had a 67 Mustang I had bought from my cousin a year earlier. As I’m cruising around, I spotted the Playboy club. So I stopped in and asked how I could become a member. The bunny at the door told me I had to be 21 and over to join. But then she whispered in my ear... “Just buy s copy of the magazine and mail in the card. They don’t bother with checking ID on mailed application. So I went right over to a liquor store, tore out the paper application, sent it in with the fee, and three weeks later I was back at the club (dressed really well) and walked right in with my brand new Playboy Key Card. I was then told that I was entitled to either a free copy of the magazine, or a cocktail (a ONE SHOT deal) so I took the drink. I ordered a scotch on the rocks because I knew nothing about drinks and alcohol (and Scotty on ‘Star Trek’ drink only scotch). I thought it was just awful. The next drink I ordered was a Martini (vodka) and that was worse. So I want to thank Tom for introducing me to both Century City and alcohol. You were and still are my hero!
Bitchen story bro!
Best comment ever
That Awesome
Fan Fuckin tastic!
Fuck Motley Crue
Sometimes I wanna leave you
Sometimes I wanna go
Right back where I came from
Back where I belong
But it never lasts for too long
Always goes away
Well I still don't look for reasons
That's much too hard these days
Why worry about the rain?
Why worry about the problem?
Honey Century City's got everything covered
Well your mama gave you lovin'
Mama held you near
Baby mama can't do nothin'
Honey mama just ain't here
And you can pretend all you want to
But that won't work no more
No you can't run back to daddy
Yeah you tried that once before
Why worry about your father?
Why worry about your mother?
Honey Century City's got everything covered
We're gonna live in Century City
Go ahead and give in, Century City
Like modern men, modern girls
We're gonna live in the modern world
We're gonna live in Century City
Go ahead and give in, Century City
Like modern men, modern girls
We're gonna live in the modern world
Sometimes I get discouraged
Sometimes I feel so down
Sometimes I get so worried
But I don't know what about
But it works out in the long run
Always goes away
And I've come now to accept it
It's a reoccurring phase
Don't worry about the rain
Don't worry about the problem
Honey Century City's got everything covered
We're gonna live in Century City
We're gonna live in Century City
We're gonna live in Century City
We're gonna live in Century City
The scream before the guitar solo is so classic... never gets old!
I indoctrinate my kids with a love for Petty by playing them a new song most nights at bedtime. This was tonight's, and it's my 8-yr-old boy's new favourite!
maybe it's just a bad dream. We'll all wake up and Tom'll be OK....................
God Rest You, Tom Petty Angel <3!
I don't get the Pink Cadillac comparisons. I like Bruce and that song too, but this (and a lot of Tom's early music) has way more of an aggressive hard rock edge than Bruce did
Huey Lewis and the News ripped this song off when they did " I want a new drug "
Damn the Torpedoes was an underrated album compared to the heartbreakers debut album from 1976....imo
even his B sides were better than everybody else's songs-love him
Mark Lilley he was SO awesome! We lost a great one when we lost him😢
Sooooo True His 1st 5 Albums are incredible
It's were he made the Album
Killer Guitar by Mike Campbell
Mike Campbell is Extremely Underrated
@John Buckley and damnit if he isn't one of the humblest people in rock. I saw an interview where he described his guitar playing as just "serving the song". If his guitar playing is just "serving the song"....than the polio vaccine was just a mild pain reliever
RIP Dear Tom Petty....💘
I came here because of Californication
Thank you Jaqueline Miles. Grrrreat song from legendary artist/album with well deserved placement on Rolling Stone Magazine's the 500 greatest albums of all time.
My first impression of this song was that it was a Pink Cadillac rip-off. But since this song never got any radio play, I guess there is not much point in a lawsuit.
rangepuppies made 6 yrs before pk
pink cadillac came out in 1984 , 5 years after Century City
I stii love you Tom. ! Pamala Petty. I'm ready to move honey!
reminds me of Pink Cadillac
Century City came out 5 years before Pink Cadillac. So if you think they sound similar, Pink Cadillac should remind you of Century City, not the other way around. On the other hand, Petty's "Dogs on the Run" does sound a bit like "Born in the USA", but that's probably just a coincidence as both albums were being recorded at roughly the same time (Springsteen's did come out first though).
Hahaha did they really put that weird little laser intro on the record?
turoniner they have a lot of weird intros to their songs on this album
where the lawyers live
@pavoman23 i used to think that ´refugee´ was a dylan song, until i bought this great album
@pettyspringsteen312 I saw your name, and I was literally like "Oh crap" xD
But I'm not trying to be a dick, but I don't like it when people compare Tom and Bruce. I DO NOT see any similarities between the 2
I can't believe a critic said this song was a Springsteen-wannabe. Pfft, Born To Run my ass, more like Born to Suck
Fuck Bruce Shitsteen
@screwyootube1 I've seen him probably four times, but I don't remember him doing CC either.
OMG, the end is cut off! Now I have to get the CD out! This has a KILLER ending!
@Exilemainstreet Their greatest album, IMHO! Love all of their catalog, but this one was my first! And this is my favorite song of Tom's! Too bad I've never heard him do it live! I've probably seen him in concert 10x in my lifetime, but he never did Century City! Oh well... I'll always have the studio version! Thanks for posting this!
@gracesong312 it happens.
Torpedos had everything! The band must have been so excited when they released it and watched it go up the charts!
