Most people in the American South will not have the conscious awareness to realize they are being subtly but very effectively mocked in this song, and being mocked by one of their own, Petty being from the South himself.

3 of my favorite Tom Petty albums were from his later years. Highway Companion, a solo album & two albums w/ the Heartbreakers, Mojo & Hypnotic Eye. All 3 really showcase the evolution of Tom Petty's sound and musical taste. I have seen him live 4 times, but all before these albums were released.

Man vinyl forever I have played this LP 6 times and going for one more!

We love this album and I thought it was simply one of his cleanest, coolest, fun sounding albums. We listen to it every time we go for our 5 hour drive up North in the summer. Miss him! Saw him 5 x and the last one was just before he passed. He loved coming to Detroit.

What an ole bluesy cool beat , well u know.

I haven't a clue how Tommy writes these melodies but I wish I could have been a fly on the wall. He pumps them out like popcorn - his catalog must be....ya! Loved your music for years. God Bless you as you rest in peace my friend.

I took my son to see Petty and The Heartbreakers at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach Florida a few years ago (shortly after both of my parents passed away). I think it was around Thanksgiving. Petty's whole fam damily from Gainesville attended the Concert - WHAT a great show that was ! My son is non-verbal autistic and it brought tears to my eyes when he leaned over towards me and said, "Thank you." Kathy

Have to give him some credit for even being in a Tom Petty youtube page though. I was thinking that maybe if he listened to enough of Petty's music, there may be hope. But then I looked at his/her username. Not feeling to confident at this point. Great tune by the way. The man is a fountain of creativity and talent. Yes indeed!

the old music has lots of symbolism - candy, greens, put it on the table = before we go all the way, I like candy without the greens, so please shave the candy...pretty cool lyrics

Eh... a pretty derivative song IMO. It's just a blues shuffle in verse-chorus-verse... no bridge, no breakdown...
