Todd Rundgren - Saving Grace Lyrics

I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
Because I know someday someone else will see it my way
And then I'll know I was not wrong

I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
They think that I'm no good
But I will make myself understood
'Cause I believe it all along

I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
When they finally see

I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
When they finally see the saving grace in me

I know the time is gonna come
When I will mean something to someone
Until that day I'm hanging on

I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
When they finally see

I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
When they finally see the saving grace in me

I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
When they finally see

I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
When they finally see the saving grace in me

I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
I think I'm gonna love it
When they finally see

I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it
I know they won't believe it

    The purest of pure pop.

I loved this song when I was in high school- listened to Something/Anything all Christmas break in 1974. My premonition has turned out to be true regarding the meaning of this song. And I love it! They don't believe it! But they can finally see, the saving grace in me

He's still so underrated. And I think it's because he's so single minded. He has an idea and he won't deviate from his course, and that pisses people off.

You know I just remembered that TR's father was constantly in his face about being a loser and was not happy with Todd becoming a musician. I grew up a couple small towns west of him. In that area, if you didn't get a college education you went into a vocational type job or into factory work. Back then there were all kinds of well know factories in the areas "where you could make a real living."

I have to wonder if some of the conflict TR is feeling in this song isn't about his relationship with his father? And I would have thought that since TR's mom has passed away, that Todd would have released his book by now. I always thought in my mind that he was waiting for her to go before he told the truth about his father. He was a real asshole.

@Elm TreeABC Pretty good insight....you could be correct. My dad wasn't all that much of an asshole but he definitely thought that a "real" job was the only way to go.... I think it went something like this...."No son of mine is going to grow up to be a no-account rock musician!!!!" Well...he was wrong and I'm still playin' at my job at 61.

Good for you for following your dreams!

Yeah, his dad was a nasty piece of work. His dad was a drunk that's why initially in his early career TR was, in his own words, "a tea totaler." He even left Nazz because they were all getting high and he wasn't into that.

The father built his own turn table (or recorder player as we called it in the day) and played Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. (I think this is where Todd developed his incredible writing skills.) No one was allowed to touch it. But Todd thought he could get away with playing it without getting caught. Opps! So TR favored his mom and that caused more tension with his father because he thought his son was limp-wristed and not a man!

    It's sad really.

@Elm TreeABC Dang...it was a different world when we grew up.
