Todd Rundgren - Marlene Lyrics
Marlene, Marlene
You're the prettiest girl I've ever seen
Do you care for me at all, Marlene?
I care for you
And I just don't care who knows it
Marlene (Marlene) Marlene (Marlene)
Who'd believe that you're only seventeen?
I'm in trouble if your folks get mean
And if they do
Then I don't care if they bust me
And I guess that means that I love you
I don't need no fantasies
Just one thing I need
Dear, Marlene
Marlene (Marlene) Marlene (Marlene)
When I think that it all is just a dream
I remember that your eyes are green
And mine are blue
They will always see each other
And I guess that means that I love you
I don't need realities
Just one thing I need
If you could make it here, Marlene
Dear, Marlene
Marlene, Marlene
I'm depending on you now, Marlene
(Marlene) I'm depending on you now, Marlene
(Marlene) I'm depending on you now, Marlene
(Marlene) I'm depending on you now, Marlene
(Marlene) I'm depending on you now, Marlene

Todd Rundgren Marlene Comments
元ネタも素敵だね〜
Todd is the grand wizard & true star of using instrumentation which serves the needs of the song so beautifully, as he does here.
About a real girlfriend that dumped Todd when he took her on a trip to England and she stayed there.......gave him a "Im moved on" call...
He recorded this before that in thr throes of love...so we have this memoralized forever in amber for ourselves.....
A broke up gift to his fans - Inadvertently
wonder what ever happened to Marlene?
Not a pretty story. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0607524/?ref_=nmbio_bio_nm

Possibly my favorite Todd tune...........I put it on and it's 1972 and I'm 14 again.....amazing.
Mr nazz Philly kid Todd
Is something special and part of my life / please make him the rock hall of fame special honor
Im jealous of the Marlenes in the comments😒
I'm jealous of the Marlenes with green eyes. LOL
This has gotta be the sweetest song ever !. ♥️
You loved her. at that moment in time. so sweet. I love you too. who could not?
戸田誠二も尊敬したマルチプレーヤー
Always been a fan since he began back in the day.. a real music genius and not enough cudos are given.. must mean something if his tunes are still enjoyed today!
And my eyes are Green!!!
My Mom named me Marlene. My Dad wanted Nelly. My Dad put Nelly on birth certificate as first name. They both called me Marlene. I was 12 when I was coming to Canada and then I found out at the airport that I was Nelly 😳 I love the name Marlene 👍🏻
Happy new year everyone.

I'm depending on you now
Marlene likes this
Lucky you...😘. I have always wanted to have the name Marlene...just because of this song. 😏
100% of Marlenes like this.
Great song from a brilliant album, remember buying it when it came out in England
My youngest daughter's middle name is Marlene after this song. Just because I loved it so much.
A WIZARD! A TRUE STAR!!!
I love this song, but I don't get why this was part of the "Cerebral Side" (Side Two). If anything, this fits more with the theme of Side One ("A Bouquet of Ear-catching Melodies") than "It Takes Two to Tango".
so good!!
The Runt foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..........
jjj天才だと確信しました。
I have known this song since this album was released. It, like so many of Todd's songs, is timeless!
JJJのサンプリング間違いない。
This is one of the most beautiful tunes Todd has written. He was so young and his choice of harmonic arrangement and orchestration was beyond someone of his age. Amazing!
huge Todd fan since 1968
I got turned onto Todd when the first Nazz album came out. I was blown away that this then 17 year old kid wrote and arranged all those songs. Then Nazz Nazz came out and all of those orchestra arrangements by Todd and even better songs (IMO) and I became a fan.
Nice 👍🏼 love ❤️ this
One of my favorite tracks off Something/Anything. It's a percussion wonderland: vibes, marimba, hand bells & a bell tree (if I'm hearing correctly).
And listen to how Todd hits those really high notes when he sings Marlene at the very end...100 million shades of brilliance.
An amazing piece of work, Something/Anything!
Todd's not in the Rock Hall....And Madonna is ???......WTF ???
Great point my friend! WTF?
SMFDH I WAS JUST GONNA GOOGLE THIS😤
This is maddening😤
ありがとうjjj
He plays most of the instruments and all the vocals on this entire album.
Quite likely the best LP ever.
I agree.
It’s like Todd’s PhD mission statement
still infectious after all these years ... many times a day this song comes into my head
Todd's writing during this period is not dated. Music for all ages/decades/generations!
Always amazing. Todd wrote some great ones.
His are just beautifully crafted musical creations. From the heart an soul. They may be pop or some genre, who knows? But you won't finding me pounding nails in his coffin or writing dingy things because... the story never ends does it wee sprouts?
jjjから!

Wonderful
Todd is such a treasure to those who choose to know his music.
Alan Schreiner that's a huge 10-4
Exactly
Roger Dee on that one Alan.
I am so in love with this song. TY Todd!
this is crazy. A friend introduced Todd´s music to me less than 10 days ago and i´ve been listening AWATS (my favorite album of all time already) & Something/Anything nonstop ever since! He writes a lot of ballads and but they´re not the cheesy type, they´re more trippy & progressive rock influenced. I´m hypnotized by Rudd and will continue to listen his music until my last day, which i hope is after the year 2100.
+Martin Tõnumaa Call him TODD or THE RUNT -not RUDD as it makes no sense... Also if you want a real mind blast from Todd, listen to his album with UTOPIA entitled RA.... 'Hiroshima' and 'Singring And The Glass Guitar' will blow your mind... Good Luck.

I love the way he seems to change keys toward the end--but he doesn't really; this song was an inspiration to some of my own songwriting. I adore this album.
This album was and is a master class on songwriting. Then you can use it as a master class on use of instruments and arrangement. What a musician!
Marlene is amazing!!!!!love the high voices at the end of the song!!!
Jim Marillo loved him
amen, the best part
The vocals on the outro weren’t sped up/manipulated either.
WoW Ya IT WAS A TRIP To grow into It..Something Anything.... but once we did....we never left.Something Anything...Never thought I would still be here loving it...
A Complete LP!
one of #TRI 's best and my favorite love song......
I bought this album in '73....I listen to it to this day....I know Todd downplays it to the media....All most to the point of being ashamed of it....No matter....It's his best work !!!!
I couldn't agree with you more!
listen to the song "Sleeping" by The Band
I finally took your advice and listened to "Sleeping". A nice song with some interesting similarities. Thanks for the tip!
Pretty Bird by 9th Wonder is why I'm here.
Me too. Although Khrysis made that beat.
I still wonder how he pulled that off.
my name is Marlene
hahahaa <3
maybe the most melodic album ever!
My friend Diane, a DJ on WXPN in the mid-70s, used to play this at the end of her overnight shift, early in the morning, to wake up her friend Marlene.
Now that is a cool DJ!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. And the special effects go through the upper atmosphere!
The golden era of Todd !
So nice.
love it
